Here is an example of #differentiation and #studentagency in our space. Tamariki book themselves into the workshops they need for #reciprocalteaching based on a #solotaxonomy rubric for each of the strategies. We are not teaching to reading age levels here, but it often works out that tamariki end up with others of the same reading age anyway.
Some of the tamariki in year 1 have been using ‘loose parts’ to play and create. Providing them with opportunities to explore in this way, has brought about rich conversation, collaboration and problem solving.
Last week the ākonga in year 6 enjoyed a range of art workshops. They chose one area of the arts that they would like to explore. There were four options to pick from: - cartooning with artist Tim Danko, Pasifika drumming with The Mamas of Corbans, as well as dance and drama. We hope that these experiences will serve as inspiration for our student constructed production next term.
The ākonga in our space have been working together this term on a maths rich task. It is great to see them collaborating so effectively with their peers and learning from each other’s strengths.
Our tamariki have ownership of their learning on Fridays as they learn to manage their tasks. Today they took this to a new level and started planning when they would like to conference with the kaiako! Rather than us calling them when we are ready to see them, we are now working to their schedules! Miharo!
Tracking. Our ākonga track their steps for projects and let us know what stages they are at and when they are ready to conference.
