hmm... i kind of think this is a cool project actually. its not like they're saying that their edit is better. like, aside from the part where their GF is reading it, it's essentially it's just a pretext to practice editing a lot on a text they like to learn about it. how are you going to learn without practice? when they say at the beginning they have no idea what they're doing, why expect it to be good in the first place? of course an amateur's first attempt at editing is gonna be janky and weird if someone's first drawings they ever made were studies of a well-known artist's work, and they were noticeably worse, it would be totally unhinged to judge them this harshly and publicly
