and it’s like not even inaccurate to link kinks to trauma bc wow yeah, our interests are informed by our life experience. but often times this is being framed as unique. as if vanilla sexual interests are *not* informed by trauma, and only deviations from “normal” sexual interests could possibly be the result of traumatic experiences.

when in reality, the cultural enforcement of vanilla sex is extremely brutal and traumatic! no one is born desiring the cultural construct of vanilla sex. desiring vanilla sex isn’t a genetically encoded baseline that trauma causes people to deviate from. it is just as learned as kink is.

Additionally, how do we know that [best currently available theory] is true, and not [dominant theory from 100 years ago that repeatedly failed in the face of evidence]? I have found some minor methodological flaws in [studies that were not designed to prove the best available theory, but rather examine edge cases within that theory], so we should really consider [nonsense with no evidence backing it whatsoever].
