the way robert switched up on waterboy so fast when they first met is so funny to me.
like he was SO weirded out by this strange wet stuttering man at first but then just a few seconds later:

do you guys think waterboy has some old person sayings? like, it's not confirmed if he was raised by his granny or not, but i like to think that she was the one to take care of him since he was a kid.
it's just funny to imagine him and z-team talking and he says some random old person thing and z-team look at him very confused.
do you guys think that like. in the bathroom scene with invisigal and waterboy, does robert just... stay there getting the glass out of his chest while waterboy continues to shit himself in the stall?
it seems like yeah, he just stayed there. did waterboy talk to him while he was doing it? like, did he continue to apologize? was robert getting the glass out long enough for waterboy to come out? like????
even though i hate this scene so much because of how invisigal acted, but i also like how robert STILL kind of defended waterboy. he tells waterboy not to worry about it and then tells courtney that "bathrooms are for shitting after your first coffee and picking shrapnel out of your chest... not for whatever this is." so that's... kind of... cute? i guess? this scene is weird for me okay.

Well, Lighthouse keeper!Robert and curious Mermaid!Herm
Robert who likes the isolation, likes the waves, likes the sea air and the freedom from any expections outside of help the boats get home.
Herm who is fascinated by the scar covered man who walks on two legs and hauls ropes all day, finding him so beautiful he can't help but watch him work under the cover of sea foam.
Robert who rescues Herm from a fishing net that the wind blew over the dock one day. Jumping in and cutting him free as Herm was panicking and thrashing. The netting cutting into his skin.
Robert who 100% believed he was hallucinating that day and he didn't save a mermaid, just some giant weird fish, until gifts start showing up on the dock. Shells and sea glass, coral bits and fresh oysters.
Herm who cant speak, but wants to say thank you so badly, he even leaves one of his own scales on the dock one day.
robert is the type of guy to wipe away any liquid he accidentally spilled onto the floors with his sock.
when herm saw him doing it for the first time, he felt like he was about to cry.
i feel like both waterboy and robert worship each other's bodies.
herm thinks robert is the most handsome guy he's ever seen. he's so pretty, his features are so sharp and his freckles are adorable. he likes his brown eyes and his facial hair. but his body... it's so, so beautiful in herm's opinion. he absolutely loves his scars. he learned every single, robert even told him how he got some of them (mostly the ones he got in "stupid" situations or purely accidental. it's still hard for him to remember the more harsh ones), and he thinks it's so... sexy, even. robert is still kind of skinny, but he doesn't shrink into himself about it, he still has some confidence left in him, even if it's just on the outside. herm is happy about robert gaining weight and mucles with his help, but he's happy to be with robert no matter how he looks.
while robert thinks herman is the most beautiful person he's ever seen. he's so tall and... long. everywhere. robert loves how long his legs look and he loves when herm is feeling confident enough to show them off at home. when he walks around in his boxers, showing off those gorgeous legs. he loves herm's features, he loves his big nose, how high his cheekbones are and those eyes of his are just lovely. if robert could, he would stare in them forever. he thinks herm is stunning, and he keeps on trying to make herm get it. get it that he's beautiful.
i like to imagine that at the start of waterboy and mecha man becoming a hero duo after the game's events, they didn't really announce it officially yet and were just seen on some missions together.
and at that time, when interviewers asked waterboy anything about mecha man, like, why they're on missions together all the time, herm would just blush and stutter a very blurry answer.
he's excited to tell the world about his husband, but he can't do it yet...
you know these old videos on youtube of couples singing some love song? i find these very cute and i want teen watermech to do the same.
i like to think that they have a "their song" that they listened to a lot when they were younger, and so one day herm learns the song on his guitar (that his granny gave him on his birthday) and tells robert that he wants to sing it together and film it... for later. for when they're older.
they still have the video saved somewhere.
herm loves when robert doesn't wear a shirt around the house. when he walks there naked, only in his sweatpants, fixing their sink that broke down last night.
when he finishes up, sweaty and dirty, wiping it away with a towel. while herm gets to see it all, see robert's muscles flex a little with his every movement.
robert doesn't do that often. he doesn't feel the most confident with all his scars, with all the weight and muscles he lost after being in a coma. but when he started growing it back with herman's help, he felt like his boyfriend deserves a little show now and then as a "thank you" for all his help.

herm is standing in the break room??? the room where the staff like. gets ready before the shift???? and herm is cleaning up his scrubs because it has some cat hair on it. robert comes in and he's like "what you're doing?" herm gets startled but then he's like, "oāoh! hellāhello dc. robertārobertson, sāsir... iāum. i'm cācleaning my sāscrubs from cācat hair.", and robert is... a bit surprised that herm, who has this kind of powers, own a cat.
robert: you have a cat?
herm: 33, aāactually! i tāthink? iāit's my gāgranny's. i lālive with her. iāi'm her cācaretaker!
robert: ...you have 33 cats?
herm: yāyeah!
robert: oh, wow. well, i actually have a pet too.
herm: *surprised that someone so serious and calm own a pet* rāreally? who?
robert: a dog. his name is beef.
herm: aāaww! such a cācute name. dādo you... um, have aāa picture?
robert: *unlocks his phone and shows herm his wallpaper with beef on it*
herm: *feels like he's going to explode from how cute beef is* aāawwww! he's soāso cute, sāsir!
robert: i know, right?
watermech who have been dating since they were teens. it's after robbie's death when robert and herm became heroes together as a duo. they just finished off a long ass interview after defeating a villian together and are finally taking a little time to rest. herm's scrolling through social media to see people's reactions.
herm: pāpeople are sāshāshipping us, rārobert!
robert: huh? *looks over to herm's phone seeing a whole bunch of edits, fanart and just videos of them together*
herm: oāour ship nāname is wāwaterāwatermech.
robert: like a combination of our heroes names?
herm: yāyep! there's a vāvideo called "wāwatermech being in lālove with eāeach other". *clicks on the said video and it's herm and robert either interacting in interviews and public appearances, or filmed by fans*
robert: you do look pretty in these videos.
herm: sāstoop! yāyou're just teasing māme.
robert: yeah, i like seeing you flustered. but i'm not lying when i see you look pretty.
(later on they come across fanfiction and... nsfw fanarts of them. herm wants to dissappear from embarrassment.)

for the dating since they were teens au watermech i feel like the only people who know about robert's birthday are chase and herm. (maybe mandy because she's their boss and stuff)
and robert's fine with it. herm and chase will get him something nice and sweet and herm will cook dinner and bake some sweets for him and they'll cuddle up watching some romance movie in the evening. he's happy with it.
but z-team are curious. they NEED to know robert's birthday too at least go to a bar together or something. so they annoy the shit out of herm about robert's birthday. herm gets so frustrated he looks like he's going to flood the place. robert once finds them torturing herm with questions again and he sees herm red and annoyed and he seems REALLY frustrated, so robert instantly gets defensive. he comes up to them and he hears z-team just begging herm for at least a hint on when robert's birthday is, while herm keeps saying no. it's... making robert feel warm inside to know that herm is keeping his "secret". (not really a secret. he just doesn't like celebrating his birthday that much.)
z-team see robert and they immediately go quiet. herm takes the opportunity and leaves before he actually floods the room. robert is still feeling defensive, so he just tell z-team to stop getting on herm's nerves before going after him.

herm can wake up in the middle of the night trying to grab robert's arm asking if he's still here. he keeps having nightmares of robert leaving or getting kidnapped by shroud or just disappearing. he remembers when robert had urgent missions in the middle of the night during his mechaman years and he just had to leave. it still scares herm when he doesn't feel robert's arm in his sleep. he also became a very cautious sleeper like robert too.
for the teen watermech au... since i hc that they would be best friends since childhood and only would start dating later on, i though about how robert could try to like, have a crush on someone else before he realized his feelings for herm.
it's mostly because of the fact that he probably wanted to rebel even a tiny bit, to stop always listening to his dad about everything, so maybe finding someone and dating them in secret could work. but he doesn't realize his crush on herm yet. he has it, but he doesn't realize it yet. while herm is DEEP in love with robert at this point.
so maybe robert would start thinking he has a thing for a girl from his math class or something. and not so surprisingly, the girl is ginger with curly hair, grey eyes and she's kind of tall. doesn't remind robert of anyone, of course. and he doesn't know if he genuine likes her or he likes her just because.. she's a girl who looks and acts similar to his best friend so it's kind of cool.
maybe it would also make him realized that he loves herm. having a "crush" on a girl who acts and looks like your best friends made him realize that... she's still not herm. she might look like him, or talk like him, but she's not herm at all.

He LOVES Robert so much. He loves him more than anyone. So when Robert says heās asking a girl out, Herm is a bit heartbroken but ever the good friend, he smiles and supports him. He says heās happy for Robert with a cheery smile.
He tells himself heāll get over it. Robert is his friend. Heās done more than Herm ever could have hoped for.
But then Herm sees the girl and he feels..hurt.
This girl is tall like he is. She has curly ginger hair like he does. Sheās got gray eyes like he does.
Sheās just like him, but the only difference is sheās a girl.
Herm feels sick because he has all the qualities Robert seems to be interested in but the issue is that heās a boy.
And then he noticed some other things that are different.
Sheās got a smaller nose unlike him. His is bigger. Sheās got a smaller face. Heās got a longer face. Sheās not gangly and lanky like him at all. She does not have a stutter like he does. Sheā¦prettier than he is.
Sheās just like Herm enough, but not Herm himself. He never had a chance.
And even though heāll be there for Robert, no matter how much it hurts, No matter how much it pains him, no matter how much heās gotta hide and pretend everything is fine and happyā¦
He still cries into his pillow at night thinking about it.
herm would feel so bad about it but he genuinely wants robert to be happy, so it's more important for him than his own sadness.
BUT i also thought about how it could be a good reason for robert's confession? robert realizes that the only reason he liked the girl is because she's similar to herm. but she's not him at all, so he doesn't have that much interest in her. he tells her that this probably won't work out and even though she's upset, she takes it fine.
robert and herm then hang out and robert tells herm that he's not talking to that girl anymore. herm is like "why?" and robert says that he realized she's not herm. herm is confused and he's like "huh?", robert repeats himself and says that she's not him. he doesn't want her, he wants herm.
herm just gets even more confused and even teary at this point, while robert continues to say that herman is amazing. he likes him. no, loves him, he just didn't understand that and he thought that maybe liking a girl who's similar to herm could work. but it didn't. she's not him, and he wants to be with him.
herm cries and turns away and tells robert to stop teasing him. maybe he somehow found out about herm's crush and is just torturing him now. robert says that he's not teasing, he's being serious. herm sobs and tells robert that he's stupid. he tells robert how much it hurts to see him with another person who looks just like him, yet has so much better qualities. with someone who's prettier, better than him. robert stays quiet, silently encouraging herm to continue. herm tells him that she's just so much better than herm. her nose is smaller, her face too, she's not lanky like him, she doesn't stutter and she's not constantly fucking wet like him. he's so, so mad at robert. he loves him back, so much, but he's still so mad at him.
robert says that he's sorry. he doesn't expect herm to forgive him right now and accept his feelings, but he just wants herm to know that he's genuinely sorry. he didn't want to hurt herm, he's just... stupid, like herm said. but for what it's worth, robert thinks herm is so much prettier than that girl.

i also thought about robert coming home after this whole confession thing with herm and as soon as he walks through that door, he slowly sits on the floor and just lets out a disappointed sigh at himself. chase comes up to him and he asks what happened to him. and robert is just so upset because this is probably his first big "fight" (not really a fight, just robert being dumn) with herm and he hates himself so much rn. he tells chase that he's a dumbass and he hurt herm. chase tells robert that he knows he's a dumbass, he needs to know the details.
I think once Robert tells him everything (he made Herm feel insecure by asking a girl out that looked like him but he really likes Herm but he confessed but now Herm is mad even though they love each other) Chase is quiet for a moment before heās like āYOU LITTLE SHIT-ā
Robert gets hit with something. Maybe a pillow, maybe a rolled up magazine, maybe Chase whaps Robert a little, idk. Nothing that hurts. Just something siblings do sometimes.
And Chase is TELLING him off. Robert winces but he knows heās a dumbass and Chase is telling Robert he better fucking GROVEL for Herm when he sees him next. Heck he better grovel for a whole fucking year.
And Roberts like āI know chaseā and āIām sorry chaseā. And Chase tells Robert to get his sorry ass in his car theyāre getting Herm a present.
on the drive to the store robert gets a whole lecture on how herm is the PERFECT option for him and he better not fuck this up or chase will beat the shit out of him if he does. and he's not joking, he'll genuinely do something to robert if herm stops talking to him because of his stupidity.
they buy a bunch of stuff for herm and the next time chase sees herm he just asks him to PLEASE never leave robert. he's s dumbass but he'll never get anyone better than herm.
watermech living together and adopting one kitten because herm is just too used to having cats around he's going insane.
robert now steps up as a brand new cat dad with no idea how to take care of a cat. him and the cat stay at home for a few days (herm had to go away for a little for WHATEVER hero reason) and robert feels very awkward interacting with it. he takes pictures of the cat and sends them to herm, usually with a text saying "the cat misses you. i do too."
