Yesterday, Brazil saw the blood of Rio de Janeiro’s people being shed in the name of “war on drugs”.

More than a 100 people DIED yesterday. Some were criminals, some were cops, some were young innocent people. None of them deserved to die, and the State Does Not Have Permission To Kill.

When you search the Brazil tag here on Tumblr, you see ads that tell you how “great” Cláudio Castro’s (Rio’s governor) politics are, and how he is doing “a great job” fighting drugs and criminals. Don’t believe none of it. Castro is a fascist, genocidal pig.

Also, when police discovered that wealthy circles, such as Faria Lima, had involvement with organized crime, not a single bullet was shot and no one was arrested. When the fucker who killed Marielle Franco was caught red handed with heavy ammo, not a single bullet was shot. When Roberto Jefferson shot in a cop’s direction and almost hit her, not a single bullet from the police was shot. Better yet, the police was laughing with him, telling jokes!!!!! inside his house!!!!

Why? Because they’re the former president’s friends. Because they’re white and rich. Because they have influence. Because Brazil is a colonized country with a damned heritage of structural racism. Because Latin America’s veins are open and bleeding.

This massacre didn’t changed anything. The cops who died were replaced already. The criminals who died were replaced already. You can’t fight organized crime by sending both sides to death; you fight it by giving dignity to your people.

I’d sincerely appreciate it if non-Brazilians reblogged this. Media outlets all over the world (and especially in my homeland) will try to sweep this under the rug but the horror has spread nationwide. We call it chacina for a reason.

It would be of great help if other countries and their citizens held Brazilian politicians/figures of authority accountable. Or, at least, acknowledge very publicly that there's an ongoing effort by the Brazilian police force to exterminate black and brown people, especially in Rio.
