Ferelden Castle - Overview
This level has easily the highest number of enemies per round\total. Excellent for farming kills, provided you don’t mind dodging dragon blasts.
There is often a golden nug in the 1st area, just past the second treasure room door, or 3rd area on the first set of steps, before the drawbridge drops and reveals the gong to call the dragon to the summit.
The final area: No Dragon Call: In a hurry or low health? Track down the Commander immediately - the sooner they go down, the sooner reinforcements stop spawning. The lowest number of enemies I’ve managed here is around 15. On the flipside, if you’re farming kills, specifically avoiding killing the Commander can result in spawning just short of 100 enemies for this battle.
Dragon Call: In a hurry to take down that dragon? Mind siege weapons on either side of the summit. They can be prepared by turning the wheel on the side until the rope side is touching the ground. Avoid setting them off until the dragon has landed on the opposite tower, they will miss if the dragon isn’t there.
Wanting to slaughter some dragonlings? Ignore the siege weapons, kill each round of dragonlings and then drive the dragon off again when it lands, repeat. I’ve watched another player wipe out 200+ dragonlings this way, not sure what present limit is.
Not a scratch
A virtuoso or keeper with a focus on barrier can keep a party unscathed through even the most hazardous missions. Repay them by keeping them safe and staying in range of their casting. This is doubly important for virtuoso, as the strength of their spells is often reliant on the number of teammates in their circle.
Party member down
When incapacitated, call out to let your team know you need help and crawl for cover. This increases the chance your teammate can successfully revive you without dying in the process or raising you in the middle of combat you can’t respond to.
If another party member is already reviving a fallen teammate, protect them with a barrier or by distracting enemies.
Priority Targets
Draw your team's focus to long range and caster enemies, known for picking off allies from afar and wiping out teams quickly once a party member falls. When dealing with stealth enemies, mark them as soon as they slip out of the shadows to strike, making it easier for your teammates to find them while visible and take them out before they can disappear again.
Treasure Rooms (routine-perilous)
Small treasure rooms rarely have guardians and can be looted during any lull or after battle before moving on to the next area.
Large treasure rooms are more likely to have enemies or guardians, making it advisable to wait to unlock until other enemies are cleared, caches retrieved, escorts safely completed and party members gathered.
Buying some time
Defending a Inquisition Captain or Informant? Retrieving a cache while under fire? Cast barrier on your target to make it through an escort mission or halt decay/damage to a cache as long as the barrier is active. ** This may be possible with abilities that share guard as well but not presently confirmed
