Kellam’s eyebrow raised when he noticed the new letter on his desk. The Great Knight looked over the letter for a moment as he tried to see who it was from. He took a minute to look around to see if the send was still around before opening the letter. “I wonder who this is from…?”

Sincerest Kellam,

It is to my understanding that this day marks the anniversary of your birth, it is only customary that such an occassion be marked with some sort of celebration. Unfortunately, due to your absense, or more like, lack of presense, such an date has gone unnoticed by the others. Do not hold any bitterness towards the rest of the Shepherds, I have studied and have concluded that it is not intentional. However, in an attempt to make such event go uncelebrated, it brings me great pleasure to inform that I have arranged a minor jubilee to make the date a pleasant if not joyous memory.

To be expected, nothing is ever simple and I like a few others have found that the best way to recieve anything of value, is through intellectual flummox or as some would call it... a puzzel.If you wish to proceed, please follow these precise instructions for they shall lead you to your destination.

Birthday Return (Kelly / Miri)

Kellam had a dejected look on his face as he returned to the He had returned home for his birthday since the camp wasn’t far but his family had forgotten it once again this year. The knight had held a faint hope that they would have remembered since he had helped defeat Gangrel but no such luck.

With a sigh he stripped off the armor he normally wore leaving him in a sleeveless shirt and trousers. Moving to his desk he placed the lone cupcake he had bought from Anna before placing a candle on the top. A quick light from a match had his make-shift birthday cake lit. “Happy birthday to me…”

<pWhen Kellam lit the candle on his cupcake, he quickly noticed a letter written in somewhat sloppy handwriting [or doctor handwriting] on a crimson envelope that was neatly laid onto his desk. It was something that did not belong to the usually invisible knight, meaning that someone must have come to drop it off while he had been away. The only words found on the envelope were ‘To Kellam.’ There was no indication as to who could have left it, but inside, it clearly held a letter.

The contents of this letter however, was unknown, that is… unless it was opened.

This is another old drawing, I wanted to draw Laurent when he sees his mother after 5 years of searching. Even though I don’t really like Miriel supports, they both are among my favorite characters. And it hurt me when she didn’t just accept him as his son from the future when he shows her the ring.

I didn’t quite accomplished what I intended to draw, Laurent reaching out for her before she disappears again… But I like it anyway. Hope you like it too.

"Here I foolishly believed to be rid of your distasteful rancor."

"I shall now disregard your comment and amiably request that you make haste to leave the confines of my tent. Your crude opinion is no longer welcomed here.”

"I’ll not make the mistake again, truly," Laurent apologized, hiding the sort of longing pain he had grown very used to when in his pseudo-family’s presence. It was divine luck that let him see his mother again, and he knew it would be in poor judgement to pine after relationships that didn’t technically exist.

Not surprised by the excruciating once-over his mother was giving him, he stood completely still as she wandered around him, keeping his eyes ahead and trying not to comment on being labeled as a potential guinea pig. He had, on many occasions, been subject to this sort of piercing gaze with more maternal pursuits. The thought caused him to break his concentration and avert his eyes to the wall.

"If you would at least believe that my instructor in the sciences was a woman identical to yourself, then you would understand the diligence I have in upholding a similarly identical set of criteria."

Laurent lightly touched the brim of his hat before exhaling, bravely looking back at his mother. Her intent, auburn eyes were the same as ever, and he looked back, unwavering. A staring content might be impossible to win with her, but Laurent knew it was an indicator of capability in Miriel’s eyes. It was everything to him to be able to work with her as an equal instead of a child curiously observing in her lab.

"Understood. Please allow me to assist you. It would be a great honor to work under a scientist with your cachet."

Miriel’s eyes were sharp, she caught the momentary lapse in Laurent’s character and witness as a pang spark of pain and sadness flash behind his spectacles. To a certain extent, the mage herself believed that perhaps the boy’s outlandish claim of being her offspring was true; however, being a scientist, it was her responsibility to question any and all truths of life. The elder mage pushed her glasses back into place as she usually did and pretended to be completely unaware of what she had witnessed. It was easier to do when the young man looked away and focused his attention elsewhere.

“I am open to the possibility that perhaps,” Miriel paused momentarily, “—perhaps you would prove to be an exquisite assistant. After all, I am well aware of your work around the camp and I must inform you, I find myself uniquely impressed. I can assure you, such a feat is not usually attainable by just anyone.”

Since the day Laurent had appeared, she had kept close tabs on the young man in her own way. In fact, she had recruited the tactician’s aid in such a task, considering that the woman had connections with almost everyone in the camp. It was true, Miriel was truly impressed with all the work and maintenance Laurent accomplished around the grounds; a boy his age would usually be up to much more… questionable activities like those of Olivia’s supposed offspring.

The moment Laurent’s gaze met hers once more; she felt a strange feeling erupt in her chest. She had only truly experienced it once before, and even that seemed so long ago now that she thought about it. Still, always keeping her professional composure, Miriel gave a confirming nod to indicate her acceptance of his aid.

“Very well then, let us question this worlds illustrious mysteries as equals but I shall remind you yet again… fall too far behind and I you will give me no choice but to terminate your participation.”

Of course, something told her that wouldn’t be a problem, how strange… this feeling; she would have to do extensive research on it at a later time. “I would first like to illustrate a few ground rules, since we will be working in close quarters of one another, I think it would be wisest if our ‘residencies’ where closer to one another’s. I purpose you have your tent moved to the same sector as mine, I am prepared to aid you with the proper procedures to have such a assignment accomplished.”

Affection Headcanon:

Miriel is considered an unemotional and antisocial human being who cares more about her quest for knowledge than people.

This assumption is correct.

However, for the specific individuals she does deem valuable/significant, she will reveal her kinder and attentive side. The subtle notion might go unnoticed by most but its an impressive milestone by her standards.

Miriel will actually stop whatever she is doing in order to tend to said individual’s needs.  There is no moment of hesitation or contemplation, whatever she was working on she will set it down and go to where she is required.

She does not speak about her sentiments using words, after all, words are empty unless backed up by physical evidence. Its also probably for the best, if Miriel actually demonstrates her affection, it’s a lot easier to understand than having her verbally explain it.

Only a handful can actually comprehend what she is saying due to her extensive vocabulary, the rest find themselves in some sort of spiraling abyss of confusion.

"Based the position of the stars and the moon, also taking into consideration my vast knowledge that I have accumulated over long periods of time. I will conclude that I know precisely what I am doing."

The mage poured the contents of one vile into another that rested above a low burning flame. “Watch carefully, Elincia, you are about to witness a new milestone that will revolutionize the way mankind lives and thinks. All in the name of science!”

The red head paused momentarily, casting a quick glance back at her inquisitive companion. Personally, Miriel cared very little about an audience during her research, that is, so long as they didn’t disrupt her work.

"Milady, if you intend to bare witness to my revelation that will surely test the limits of all known truths, you will not do so by standing there idly there."

"O-oh…" Elincia approached the experimental setup nervously, looking around. It was unclear what was even being set up, but she could follow instructions at least… and she did want to see this. "Alright then. Tell me what I must do, and I will do it."

"If you are so intent on assisting me on this day, I will ask that you prepare to follow every command in an swift and efficient manner."

The mage removed her hat and set it aside, “mistakes will not be tolerated and if you prove to hinder my work… then I shall ask that you remove yourself from the premises.”
