DEFTONES | EROS SESSIONS [April 14-November 3rd, 2008] | The Spot, Los Angeles, CA | prod. by Terry Date

Unfinished album by the band as well as the final recordings of bassist Chi Cheng before his car accident that left him in a coma [11/03/08]. The album was shelved and the band recruited Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega for an entirely new record that would become 2010's Diamond Eyes. Hoping for Cheng to make a full recovery and eventually return to bass duties, the band had initially planned to finish and release Eros. Although he was making steady progress in recovering, Cheng's sudden death from cardiac arrest [04/13/2013] ultimately made Eros the final Deftones record he worked on.

On the one year anniversary of Cheng's death, frontman Chino Moreno uploaded a song from the Eros sessions called "Smile" to the Deftones youtube account but was ultimately taken down by Warner Music Group two days later for copyright infringement. Since the release of "Smile", the rest of Eros had remained shelved.

The rest of the unfinished album was leaked on the internet last week [06/22/2026]. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter responded to the incident on a podcast, stating that their records since 2000's white pony would leak before their official release dates and was not too bothered by it. As of today [7/01/2026], the rest of the band has yet to make any comments regarding the leak.
