You don't need to do anything in particular to be a therian or otherkin except just having that identity. You don't need to do quads. You don't need gear. You don't need to have a pack. You don't need to be able to draw your kintype. You don't need to have shifts often or at all. You don't need to make animal vocals. You don't need anything other than identifying as your kintype. You can do whatever you want with that identity, and it doesn't have to align with what the community likes to do with theirs.

Enough of the trope where memory loss undoes the damage or the corruption or whatever. More content where removing memories just removes the context.

The tragedy of needing to grieve and not knowing what or who you lost or why. The angst of having trauma and being denied the awareness that it's trauma. The suspense of being different somehow and left to wonder how and when. The tension of knowing that something is off and you can't find where it hurts. The Adventure Zone gets it. Kingdom Hearts gets it.

There is an aching inside you and you don't know how it got there.

I was reading the book The Pandora Principle and thought that this passage also is relevant to existing as a non-human living on current-day earth.

There is a lot of discussion on here about learning to co-exist and appreciate humans and I found that Spock's words to me here reflect what it is that I have, with time, come to really admire about Humanity.

Humans can be difficult to live with when you have different needs and ways of thought. However they are also beautifully inventive, compassionate, and capable of amazing things. I believe that the difficulty is worth the privilege of getting to know them. I try to keep these words in mind when I interact with them.

A satyr is meant to live carefree. I don't know how to hold my footing in the hostile and always-demanding world humans have created for each other. I'm just not built for it.

Reminder for the tags that your identity (alterhuman or otherwise) is your own. No one can tell you what's going on in your mind or what you're feeling. No one can prove you right or wrong when it's a matter of your own personal identity. Only you can decide who and what you are, and only you can label that. It's okay to be wrong, to change labels, to decide that you were confused and to try on other labels for size. Questioning and taking your time with yourself isn't wrong by any means. What matters at its core is that your identity is yours and yours alone--no one can take that from you or decide who you are for you.

Hey btw, fictionfolk? You don't deserve to have your concerns and needs dismissed just because of your identity. You shouldn't have weird ethical expectations placed upon you because of your identity. It's not right and you deserve so much better.

If you don't want your friends to talk about your source around you, they should respect the boundary. If you don't want to interact with fan content, people shouldn't send it to you. If you don't want to be treated like you're a character made for entertainment instead of a living breathing person who is also just a character, people shouldn't be treating you like you're just a fun chatbot or a way to obsess over your source. If you don't want to share any memories or noemata, you shouldn't be pressured to. People shouldn't question the validity of your identity over you "not acting like" your source. People shouldn't treat you like you're irredeemable for being a villain or antagonist fictionfolk or having a fictionfolk connection to one. You're not immoral for your hearttype or linkype being evil and people shouldn't act like it.

People shouldn't dismiss your needs and emotions as "not that deep" for any reason, let alone because you happen to be fictionfolk. Alterhumisia against fictionfolk sucks, you should be able to stand up for yourselves. You don't need to make yourselves small and palatable for everyone around you, you shouldn't have to water your identity down to fit in. Be yourselves, there's people out there who will accept you for who you are, no strings attached. And you deserve that. You deserve to be unapologetic and wholly accepted, fictional identity and all.
