For trolls and wanna-be-sorcs.
Chaos.
my players when walking out of this session
That went well
First real experiments with making sets and pieces. I know I’m not using the prime materials for any of these crafts but as a college student I’m just gonna stick with using what’s convenient.
Image 1: Pinkie our panther friend and some logs for next session. Logs are made from rope, hot glue and acrylic paint where Pinkie was bought as a tiger and repainted.
Image 2: God damn it I said I wasn’t going to try to sculpt minis and then I saw something saying you could do it with hot glue and wire. As expected not the easiest this to do, hard time getting into the armpits and things since hot glue guns aren’t known for their precision but as soon as I go home for spring break I plan to hit him with a heat gun and see if he evens out at all. You can probably guess who it is.
Image 3: First shot at a set. Not a big fan of the fact I painted the bottom without giving it texture but I need it for session tomorrow so this what we getting this time. It’s going to be part of a small alter for Chauntea that’s located within the lumber mill. Made from sheet acrylic scrap, hot glue and acrylic paint.
It’s Yaboi!
Session 4: Attack on the Keep
Rising again the next morning the sun and the party greet the new day. Final preparations are put in place for the day. Kydriel and Yaboi situate themselves with the Jerrys on the wall establishing a warning system for the coming attack. Vanti and Ariadne conversely arrive at the keep and are lead to the Countess lounging with her Panther, Pinky, in her room. Setting the countess up in Vanti’s armor and casting her out of the keep with a warning to lay low everyone settles into their positions. The day passes calmly both on the wall and in the keep allowing Ariadne to bond with Pinky and Kydriel to hate the Jerrys a little bit more. As the night falls anticipation builds with the arrival of the birds.
First spotted from the wall the birds are again carrying notes but some have none and some instead are holding small creatures. The horde enters the city and immediately a cluster spiral down to the outpost Kydriel, Yaboi and Jerry occupy. Defeating the birds with a fair amount of stress Kydriel glances about finding that though the horde of birds was mixed only crows have attacked their outpost. In addition each post seems to have a spiral of birds covering it as the Jerrys fight back. Descending the wall and happening upon Cerys they head to the keep with the understanding that the attack has begun.
At the keep the birds seem to pass right over though, leaving Vanti and Ariadne undisturbed other than the sight of the notes coming from the sky. Rapping on the door quickly disturbs their peace though as a Jerry bursts in announcing an attack on the keep and the countess must join them in the cellar. Ushered out of the keep and around to the cellar the door is shut behind them. Arriving to the ground in the dim lighting the two Jerrys in the room quickly turn to Vanti whom they believe to be the Countess and draw their short swords attacking her. With some fight they quickly slash her down at which they pull out of their fighting stances and Ariadne crumbles at Vantis side. Discreetly healing her Vanti is spared death but stays down as Ariadne yells to the Jerrys inquiring why they’ve cut down their countess only to the revelation that “A friend asked us to” as they leave the cellar.
Each half of the party heads into the main foyer of the keep which is empty and far too quiet to be comfortable. A soft padding of feet can be heard from the upstairs as they yell but no other noises emerge. Following the noise to investigate they find the Countesses room to be ransacked but Pinky is otherwise unharmed and comfortable. Growling through a conversation with Vanti, Pinky reveals that the friend not only is the one who arrived but this friend is not new to the keep. At this point Cerys and Yaboi have seen through Vanti’s disguise not only seeing that she is not the countess but that she is not the human she portrays herself as. Yaboi looking at her pointedly insists we go to find Vanti until the group walks to the inn, Pinky in tow to find the same scene in Vanti’s room. A disturbance can be found on the stone floor which Yaboi opens only to find it leads into the front of the inn. Determining a better way of finding the Countess Steve they set Pinky upon her trail and follow her into the night.
Session 3: Count Down
It's still midday in Indridge when our party reconvenes. Indy leaves our party at the inn where they get settled in as she only has a few days in Indridge to sell her maps to those requiring them. All of them request individual rooms except for Carys and Yaboi’s room which Yaboi orders to get a bunk bed. Cerys on the other hand has apparently left with old friends for the day. Kydriel glances out the window and sees a horde of birds coming from the West. Alerting the party they all climb on top the roof from the window to watch them approach.
Taking initiative Kydriel takes Vanti’s crossbow and shoots down one of the birds skewering it directly through the wing. As the bird begins careening out of the sky, the other birds begin releasing their letters. The flurry of papers descends upon the town and as they are snatched from the air each contains only a hastily scrawled “3”.
Climbing inside and over a street they seek out the duck Kydriel shot as it lays in the middle of the street. Several people can be seen whispering as they approach with Vanti reaching out to calm the creature. She coos and calls to it seeming to have a conversation and revealing that in fact she can speak with animals. According to her the duck and the other birds have flown in from the high mountains but they are not meant to return. The mountain men have sent them but they are not owned.
Miraculously healing the duck it is released to join the horde a decision seems to be required. After dinner and a visit with Tengen it is determines there is not enough time to travel into the mountains and search for the druids. Meeting with the countess the following day a plan is hatched Vanti taking the lead pulls her aside and discussed them switching places. As plans are laid the party prepares for the next day buying supplies, searching the grounds and spreading the plan. As the sun falls from the sky the next rain of letters arrives and fades into the night leaving the lonely number “2” on the minds of the city.
Session 2: Onto Indridge
Before departing the party explores the remainder of Garrkle's Patch. Vanti visits Grebbedo, the woodcarver, and speaks to him about protecting their town. He clearly has the skills to make defenses and agrees to experiment more under Vantis patronage.
Kydriel interrupts a nice couple having breakfast, almost steals from them too.
Departing the town they leave Arianna in her state of perpetual pancake eating. They arrive in Indridge a few days later but curiously the last day moving through deforested lands. Arriving at the walled city they are greeted by Jerry! Jerry the guard is welcoming and immediately tells them to go to the castle as they have been having problems recently. A slight detour is taken as Kydriel seeks out some children, asks them about an orphanage, gives them money, and leaves again. Weird. The continue on to the keep in the center of the city though. Greeted by yet more Jerry's you are ushered into an expansive main hall.
A man emerges mumbling forward until his eyes catch Vanti to which he lights up and hugs her. Tengen is the main guard of the keep and he explains how there has been a string of threatening letters and believe that soon an assassination will be coming. The letters he says are dispersed randomly through the city by birds that fly in from the mountains and they demand the stop of the wood industry. The countess Steve Martin has growing concern about the situation as she cannot easily change that large a part of their economy. Fully learning of the situation our party then seeks out Ingress, the sister of Circe, looking for a map that may aid them for tracking the origin of this threat.
Exiting the keep they notice the children from earlier and request help. Guided by these kids and another small offering of money the parties eyes fall upon the woman in question as she is stooped to talk to her visitors. Noticing you and standing to her full height the party is shocked that instead of a gnome dressed as a bird she is instead a Tengu woman. Cooing about Circe she agrees to make them a map and guides them to the inn where she is staying with her father and suggests they also stay the night.
DM: You enter Indridge.
Kydriel, a 60 something year old elf: Do I see any children?
Arianna Lacost
Unfortunately Arianna Lacost has chosen to stay in Garrkle’s Patch until further notice she will live in this calm forest and aid Circe with her maps and hobbies rather than rejoin the adventure.
Circe’s map!
“I’m not great at this yet but here’s what I know! Ari and Vanty couldn’t really tell me where they were from so I just put them off the map but frand Ari is from somewhere grassy so I marked her in the grass lands. Garrkle’s Patch is Home since I live here and this is my map. The castle on the river is where dad has gone to sell our craft and get supplies. It’s called In-da-Ridge since it’s in da ridge of the mountains. Soon I’ll be able to make you guys a bigger map but dad said I would need to grow up more before I can go out into the world.”
Session 1: Garrkle’s Patch
The party awakens in Garrkle’s Patch showered with pancakes and hostile hospitality from a small gnome. As they come into themselves for the first time Terran, another local gnome, barges in as he has just lost his niece in the woods and requires help.
Our not yet heroes split trying several methods to track down the girl including climbing her roof, running in random directions and blinking sightless in her room. Somehow all managing to come upon a small lean to in the woods at the same moment and just as their eyes befall the crude shelter their feet befall them into a hole as all except Kydriel are caught in a crude trap. Not learning from her mistake Ariadne bolts directly into a second hole while everyone else calmly approaches the birch building.
The younguns climb in to look for Circe but find nothing and instead choose to hide themselves. Eventually coaxed out by the adults Circe comes from a hiding hole underground and befriends everyone except Kydriel whom does not speak kindly nor is spoken kindly about. As Circe has become a cartographer at the ripe age of seven she draws a map for her new friends and they bring her back to town for lunch.
When approaching town though they find that the blood from the woods is from a pair of orcs. The town is silent but for them throwing around the body of Yaboi. Ariadne quickly hides Circe back at the hideout before they engage with the orcs. First is Kydriel setting off combat by throwing a dagger which careening through the air moves past our first orc only drawing attention but not hitting. In the end of it the orcs land two harsh hits, one to Kydriel and another to itself. As both are felled the town yet again becomes lively throwing a small but disturbing feast for their heroes or sculpted meat cooked above the burning corpses.
Congrats
This is the beginning. If you are here let it be known you are a surprise for I expect no one to find this. That is unless I tell my players it exists. This is the start to a shaky adventure run by someone who doesn’t know how to write a story longer than ten minutes. It’s gonna be a great time.
