Head not empty.
Head full of unending terror.
“Ah someones gonna need patching up aren’t they.” The gauze is out and ready to go.
”do gauze work on code blood?” Asked Omni nervously
“I mean....there's only one way to find out.”
“Ah someones gonna need patching up aren't they.” The gauze is out and ready to go.
@not-another-parable has arrived for their appointment! “Charlie Page, Charlie Page......employee number 126... For some reason I don’t believe I have you on record at all which is strange as hell. But, I can change that of course.” They assigned them the color orange, it just fit the person who sat before them. Testing out the pen revealed that is was a lot more glittery than the other pens they had. Hm, had to keep that in mind. “So like... Did you always work here? I should have had a file for you, it’s not like I’m one to really slack on stuff like this...” Eden continued to dwell on the thought, absolutely lost and perplexed. They just needed answers!
Hm? Oh shit. They immediately put it out not wishing to cause any further discomfort for their patient, he already seemed like he was in shambles breathing in someone else's smoke was not gonna help. “Ah, sorry sorry, bad habit... Anyway just think of it as your run of the mill check in. I see if you have any problems, I ask you questions about yourself. You get medication or bandaged up whatever is applicable and then you go. It’s very standard. Think of me as like a school nurse but I have more equipment at my disposal and I actually do more than tell you to put an ice pack on it and go lay down for an hour. It really isn’t long at all, I just like to know that everyone’s doing okay in these stressful conditions.”
Oh there they go! Eden was down for the count, passed out on the concrete floor having finally given into their exhaustion and deciding to just tumble over.
“Thursday you really dont have to do all that for me i’m fine right here on the floor. Besides, I don’t even think I have the energy to get up to get there so don’t worry about it .” They made a poor attempt to pacify the worries of the narrator, drowsy words sort of sticking together in a slurred tone. “Really though-I appreciate your offer the help is uh, greatly....greatly needed. Also yea! Yea, i’m probably not a coward..” With that they were out like a light, a soft snoring being somewhat audible from them.
Oh there they go! Eden was down for the count, passed out on the concrete floor having finally given into their exhaustion and deciding to just tumble over.
“Woah- hey,” he said more reflexively than anything as he spotted them and stepped over to check on them. They’re breathing, probably just asleep. Not surprising, considering how tired they look all the time…
They don’t have any issues with blood sugar, do they?
He looked around, trying to figure out what might be a better place for them to sleep. There isn’t anything he would even marginally call a bed, so he decided to enact his earlier plan: to steal a bunch of cushions for the lounge.
And more soda in case it is a blood sugar issue (though frankly he doesn’t know much about that).
Once he’s satisfied with the arrangement of cushions, he gently lifts them to lie on the makeshift bed.
They were completely limp in his arms as he picked them up, a sort of humming noise coming from them in reaction to the sudden movement of their unconscious body. There Eden was now, upgraded from the floor to at least something a bit more comfortable. Laying amid the pillows the silence was broken and a gentle sob could be heard from the nurse as their frame trembled. Tears rolled down pale freckled cheeks from closed eyes as the nurse remained sleeping lost in the anxiety of a nightmare. This wasn't something new to them, far from it, but the fear which followed these vivid dreams never seemed to dull at all. If they could get rid of their need to sleep they’d do it in a heartbeat all to avoid this.
Oh there they go! Eden was down for the count, passed out on the concrete floor having finally given into their exhaustion and deciding to just tumble over.
Thursday stands there, completely stunned, for several seconds. She had just brought them a lighter! Did the lighter do this to them somehow?!
“Ahhh!!” she reacts suddenly, immediately follow them, crouching beside them, and trying to figure out how to rouse them. “Um, uhhh… Hey, Eden, I don’t know if you’ve realized, but you’ve- you’ve sort of just passed on out the floor, you know, just like, straight over. Are you still alive? Ummm….”
Their eyes were still closed, but a faint mumbling could be heard from the nurse. “I’m not dead don't worry, I just haven’t slept in three days so...This has been coming for a while. I probably could have made it another uh....shit” Their train of thought was completely derailed at every turn, feeling like they just shook their head for as long as they could before attempting to construct any sort of sentence. “I could have made it another few hours I wasn't a COWARD.”
Oh there they go! Eden was down for the count, passed out on the concrete floor having finally given into their exhaustion and deciding to just tumble over.
“Hey yo anyone got a light?”
“That’s my summoning ritual incantation.”
He hands over his lighter to Eden. It’s heftier than the disposable ones, with a constellation etched into the metal.
“Keep it. I’ll get another one on respawn.”
They took it from him, examining it thoroughly. There was a pang of sadness in their chest, thinking about how Jun was so ready to give it away knowing he’d just die again sooner or later. “Jun i’m not gonna take this from you, I can’t bring myself to it and you shouldn’t think about how you’re going to respawn again already. You aren’t even hurt right now, why think about the end already.”
Jun blinks. Oh. Right, death was bad.
He was getting so used to the whole mundanity of restarting and respawning that he’d simply just forgotten how serious that sounded to others.
After all, respawning was such a common video game term that it barely registered as death to him.
“Ah um,” he begins, trying to think of a good explanation. “It’s not really… I misspoke. I mean, there are non-lethal ways to cause a restart in my office. And that will cause a refresh in my model too.”
He chuckles a little nervously, trying to dispell the air of concern. “Really, it’s fine. I want you to have it.”
Their expression softened to one of worry and sadness, clutching the lighter tightly in their hand and avoiding his eyes for a moment. This carelessness, these were the effects of resigning yourself to so many restarts. Watching the people around them turn to reckless behavior to solve such small issues made was heartbreaking. You forget the joys of living when you lose all the consequences. Eden grabbed his hand, their fingers cold and calloused from overwork. but still retaining the innate ability to be tender and gentle to whatever they may hold. They returned the lighter, placing it in his palm and fixating their gaze upon his directly, their grasp on him remaining unbroken. “Jun, I think you should try to take better care of yourself. I honestly really appreciate this gift but, I don’t think I can take it from you knowing what comes next may it be fatal or not.”
[ @insomniums // continued from here ] “Oh, the serious room, it loses it’s initial intimidating factor when you’re trapped in here constantly. Exposure therapy and all that.” Their relaxed nature was a stark comparison to the cold concrete walls, the cruel and unyielding aura, seeing them constantly live in these conditions often made people feel some how intimidated by their inability to be affected. Looking up from their pen filled paper and resting their head in their hands they simply gave the other a nod. “Yea, soda, that’s all i want nothing too big. What’d you think I was gonna do with money in this four by four room?” They said sounding a bit smug and waving their hand before watching Jun go retrieve their payment. A few moments later as their coworker strolled back in their eyes lit up. “Wow, two cans? Mr.Law you shouldn’t have. Your gracious gracious offer has been happily accepted! I’ll go get your meds now. Oh, and I’ll give you enough to last a bit of time too so don’t worry about running out.”
Jun laughed a little. "Yes, I understand the sentiment," he said with a small nod. "The office kept me here for quite some time for uh, causing a little mischief, but I think it was ultimately the boredom that was the challenge."
Still... it must have been rather uncomfortable to live just here and only here. Wasn't that akin to solitary confinement? Yet they seemed to be rather relaxed.
"Hey, you could've... asked me to sacrifice a goat in the name of the Dark Gods or something," he countered jokingly. "But hey, no problem. In fact uh, if you want me to bring you some other home comforts, I'm happy to see what I can dig up."
He was already considering whether he could somehow shove an entire lounge chair into the place. Or maybe at least the chair cushions.
He hesitated as they turned to retrieve the medication. "Thank you but uh, actually..." He paused, looking a little nervous. "Look, um- before you go grab that, is there any chance you happen to have sertraline in your stores?"
"I... I have an ongoing theory that the dose I took before I became trapped here returns to my system on restart," he began slowly. "But it means that after a few days, I start to get the withdrawal issues if I don't."
"It's- it's a little frustrating. It means I've had to continually restart to prevent that issue, which for obvious reasons isn't particularly healthy," he muttered before he returns to his normal volume to add, "I take 100mg daily."
“Sacrifice a goat?” They held back a little snicker, clearing their throat and regaining their composure rather quickly though. “Do I look like the type of person who’d summon livestock to ancient entities? Go on, you can be honest with me Jun.” Perhaps they gave off that ‘witch’ vibe with their ragged and rough appearance, the dark spots under their eyes, their long unbrushed hair. Yea, when thinking about it like this that had to be the reason why. “Oh thanks by the way, I really appreciate that seeing how limited my furniture options are to sleep on, the regular office chairs are this close to giving me life long spinal problems I can just feel it.” The rose up from their chair walking a few feet before hearing his protests. Turning back to him and listening intently to whatever he had to say. As a doctor that was the most important thing, to hear how your patient felt and to follow through with whatever plan you both thought was the correct choice. If Jun was sure if this hypothesis then Eden would be happy to comply. “Yea, I can easily give you that Jun, don’t worry about running me anymore errands, this ones free of charge.” Then off they went to go grab his pills.
“AM I THE ONLY BITCH AROUND HERE THAT DOESN'T RESPAWN EVERY OTHER DAY?!?”
“Hey yo anyone got a light?”
“A light? There are lights up all over the place! But if you really need one, sure, I’ll get one for you! Just need to find a ladder first!”
“No no Thursday! Like a lighter, y’know what I mean right? The little plastic fire starter.”
“Ohhhh, okay, I see, I see. Ahahaha, well, ah, no, no I don’t have one of those… but, ah, if you’ll wait right there, I’ll go back to my office and get you one!”
“Oh, yea I can totes wait no problem at all Thursday and thank you kindly in advance.”
“Hey yo anyone got a light?”

“Ah, hm. Don’t like that one.”
“Too bad, sweetheart. You’ve caught my eye.”
“Yea well there you go you’ve seen me, wow look at that take a picture make it last I don’t care, now shoo! Go away!”
