transgender people are people and deserve respect, healthcare, and housing
transgender people deserve exclusive spaces to themselves (organized by the methods they see as useful) where they can discuss unique aspects of their lives
these spaces should be funded by trans activists, and not displace feminist/women’s spaces; we still need them to discuss our own issues
transmasculine people attracted to women should absolutely be allowed to discuss their experiences with homophobia
while gender identity rhetoric has a lot of its basis in misogyny and homophobia, knowledge of this fact does not necessarily lessen dysphoria, nor does it make transition an inherently evil choice for individual, informed adults
sex-based oppression is real and harmful, and it will continue to harm female people until we dismantle it
redefining “sex” or “female” does not dismantle sex-based oppression, it just muddles the definition and usually erases the only protections that female people have ever set up for themselves.
the hatred of femininity is because of its association with the female sex, not the other way around; “femininity” is not a tangible thing that hatred can organize around, whereas female sex is and has been the basis for oppression for a very long time
transgender people all face dangers because of not performing their gender roles properly (even if they properly perform the gender role of the opposite sex, which is its own issue). this does not mean that some trans people are not male, or that female anatomy is a symbol of privilege, or that sex-based oppression doesn’t exist, or that biological sex is fake/a western construct/whatever.
children should not be allowed to seek medical/surgical transition
the history of using estrogen as a treatment for male homosexuality is not an off-limits topic, and should be something that people are made aware of, especially in the context of a parent or other guardian having input into transition options for a child
women are uniquely socialized to accommodate everyone and everything, and this extends to feminism; feminists are tasked with dealing with everyone’s problems, whether it’s issues brought forward by anti-feminists, men’s rights activists, or transgender rights activists. the implication (and effect) is that we are to put our own needs on the back burner, because our rights can wait until everyone else gets theirs. if you’re outraged by women fighting for their rights, critically think about how your own thoughts are impacted by this sort of socialization: are you truly in favor of women putting their needs first after centuries of brutal oppression? or would you prefer women fighting for every group under the sun before anyone tackles female-specific oppression?
the process referred to as male socialization can be traumatic for gender non-conforming males (and often those with developmental disorders); this does not make it the same as female socialization
uterus transplants for male people are dangerous and life-threatening; please look into adoption as an option instead
barriers to adoption do not entitle you to a uterus, instead your activism should be focused on tearing down those barriers to adoption
if people are yelling at you on the internet about something that seems unlikely, look into it on your own time and draw your own conclusions
taking estrogen does not mean that you have a period, and saying it does grossly misunderstands physiology, minimizes menstruation as a process, and possibly puts you in danger (if you have new, unexplained, severe abdominal pain you should be concerned, no matter what people on the internet say)
in general: do not listen to what random people on the internet tell you about your body, especially if they seem like the time to “affirm” everyone; if you’re concerned about something, go visit a doctor as soon as you can, especially if you’re on hormones. they are NOT risk-free, and even if they were, you can have unrelated issues (e.g., an STI or other infection)
saying that somebody is ideologically impure because of their attraction is coercive; appealing to their sense of morality and guilt is not good even if it is more “subtle”
likewise, nobody has to give you a “reason” for their sexual orientation, including disclosing whether they have a history of trauma or not
gender abolition should be the end goal for anyone who wants to get rid of gender roles
if gender is abolished, “transgender” would no longer exist in the same sense that it does now, because our understanding of gender (and therefore transgender) relies on gender roles. that doesn’t mean that today’s transgender people could not dress or speak or present in the exact same way; it just means that the abstract “masculine” and “feminine” categories would no longer be taken as concrete truth that categorizes people
this does not mean that dysphoria would not exist, but it would likely at least be greatly diminished
this also does not mean that sexual orientation would no longer exist
if you are made uncomfortable by discussions of female anatomy, reproduction, and diseases but not male anatomy, reproduction, and diseases, then that is misogyny. instead of lashing out at others and trying to make them responsible for your discomfort, own your discomfort and work on it, the same way that anybody with misogyny (internalized or otherwise) should.
transgender people have historically been aligned with lesbians and gay men because they have been homosexual themselves, and because many lesbians and gay men are visibly gender non-conforming (these very frequently overlap). lesbians and gay men feeling a disconnect from homophobic “gay trans men”/”lesbian trans women” and wanting to dissociate from them is because they often lose that element in common, in addition to frequently being disrespectful and lacking empathy for gay and lesbian experiences.
growing up attracted to the same sex is a specific, incredibly difficult and traumatic experience. the fact that growing up dysphoric (but attracted to the opposite sex) is also specific and difficult/traumatic does not make these experiences exactly the same, nor does it make their attraction anywhere near the same
female and male are useful categories that should retain their basic definitions because of that usefulness, because you have to understand that femaleness is distinct from femininity and the hatred of the female is not a hatred of femininity. knowing this is vital for any useful analysis whatsoever.
before saying “X is fluid,” think about: what makes it fluid? who does it benefit to call it fluid? in what way do they benefit? is their benefit worth the negative consequences of redefining it? (see: lesbian->”women/femmes attracted to femininity” or bisexual->”someone attracted equally to both sexes” [implying need for new orientation terms with only small distinctions] or woman->”anyone who performs femininity at all” etc.)
you can’t call women cunts even if you happen to identify as one. seriously. it objectively makes you a bad person, and you should work on changing that.
the t-slur is also objectively bad to use.
imagery of a vulva, vagina, uterus, ovaries, etc. should not be considered offensive. calling our morally neutral, historically repressed biology transphobic or weaponized is not a better argument than anything i’ve seen out of men’s rights activists (who similarly accused women of controlling the world with their vaginas). all of these things have been reviled for centuries (unlike things like penises or testicles).
reproduction is universally worse for female people than it is for male people. terror over becoming pregnant as a tool of control is female. needing an abortion is female. being legally made to stay at home, perpetually pregnant and taking care of small dependent infants, is female. being financially dependent on others because of our pregnancies/children, whether they were wanted by us or not, is female. the biggest dangers associated with reproduction (pain, miscarriage, infection, death, etc.) are female.
because of this, males do not really require a stake in reproductive rights at all. if they so choose, their involvement in reproduction lasts a few minutes and has very few associated risks. the female role in reproduction lasts months and puts her in danger. this extends to males (transgender or not; i’ve seen men express desires for this as well) who want a uterus transplant (which, again, they cannot get).
