10 Newcomers Seek The Sadist...
Of course there are lines and boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed, Quistis was smart enough to know that and for a couple of reasons. First, the person will have the opportunity to manipulate if any weaknesses are shown and use that person for their own personal gain, that was something she had witnessed first hand. And the second thing was not to antagonise and create hostility. Those two things is what the ex-instructor wanted to avoid at all costs.
“Of course, there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed, so I’m not going to push my luck. But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to tell you everything about me, you would need to earn that right. I’m sure that you’re careful in the sort of information that you give others?”
Even though the ground rules are established, something didn’t feel right about Nabaat. It felt like that behind the exterior, lies within something much darker and sinister. Quistis felt that she needed to secretly keep her guard up and be careful around this woman.
Of course. Quistis had warned Nabaat less than a minute ago that she had trust issues. It was an obvious fact, that she would not reveal everything about herself to the PSICOM Commander straight away.
But the aim, in the eyes of Nabaat, was to get her to gradually lower her defenses and become more open about herself. It would take time, yes, but it would be time well spent if it worked.
“Yes, I am cautious in what information is classified and what information is revealed to the public. In a position of authority such as mine, it is vital that I do that, unless I wish to risk losing my line of work.”
In the eyes of the former instructor, Nabaat appeared to be very professional. Her mannerisms, appearance and just about everything on the surface appeared to be very formal, focused on duty. It sort of reminded her of herself.
However, it was easy enough to fall into a trap. Quistis could recall Seifer falling to a similar trap, seduced by the elegant, trustworthy façade of Ultimecia. She knew all too well to be careful and what to watch for. Lucky for her, if Nabaat tried anything that she could quickly whip up a Blue Magic spell within a split second.
"I understand, I too have once been placed in a position where most information needed to be kept away from others. It's a risk that you're willing to take in a position of leadership, to take command of others and lead by example. Some things shouldn't be said in order to prevent any hostility. I'm sure you can agree with that, am I correct?"
