Not my usual art post but I absolutely had to share this with the fandom. Was watching Caine's scenes frame by frame..for art purposes obviously(¬‿¬) don't ask how many screenshots I have now..

Anywho! Was going through the scene in episode 7 where Jax and Caine are in the restaurant, and one particular reaction from Caine made me pause.

Most of us probably assume that since this whole episode was an adventure made by Caine that he must know that this 'date' with Jax was all part of said adventure, but here me out.

We see Caine being his normal chaotic self here, having fun and thinking they're just hanging out. Then Jax asks about his secret hobbies. (key word there because that's exactly what he programed Able to tell Jax to ask him about)

Now this is where I paused, because that chaotic energy from before is completely gone and Caine almost seems stunned here. He freezes and his irises immediately shrink. Almost like that question was completely unexpected.

Then here for a moment he looks kind of disappointed or even hurt. Like the reality of the situation finally hit.

What if Caine was so excited about a human asking to spend time with him he truly forgot about the adventure for a moment. If this whole time Caine thought Jax genuinely wanted to hang out with him, but when Jax asked about his hobbies that's when he realized it was all for the adventure. Jax was never actually interested in hanging out with him, and I think that genuinely hurt him.

But he put so much effort into this adventure he can't let himself slip up now and reveal that he knows what's going on. In this moment he seems to think exactly that, staring Jax down with what looks like a dismayed expression, and has to quickly compose himself so he can play his part in the whole adventure.

TLDR; What if Caine was so excited about Jax asking to hang out, he completely forgot it was part of the adventure. Until Jax asked about his hobbies, and then he was left disappointed and hurt. :)

Aaand that's my thoughts on this scene after analyzing Caine's reaction frame by frame (ദ്ദി˙ᗜ˙) . Maybe I'm reading into it too much (Caine's my favorite so totally possible) BUT I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts on it!

Blue is at the top of the tent because they know the only one who can reach them there is Caine

I really like the idea of caine being absolutely terrified to ever mess up or show negative emotions around the cast after being deleted. He doesnt know that them deleting him (in his words, KILLING him) was an accident. He thinks they did it purposfully.

So with his past experience of being thrown away, and then getting deleted, he's just so scared to mess up and constantly feels like hes walking on eggshells.

Oooo imagine he goes to one of the empty rooms and just full on breaks down without the cast seeing. (Even better if one of the humans walked in on him.)

Guys, guys, it all makes sense now!! Aka on my third rewatch of phm I noticed a shot that was strikingly similar to a poster... mmmmh...

it’s not theory thursday, but I did wanna share some headcanons related to perfection theory. so here’s the first:

the series, no doubt, mentioned the 4th wall before but I like to think the goo amplifies that even further without it needing to be physically present. Think of a light switch; every character can somewhat sense the 4th wall, but if the imperfect trio tried hard enough, they could see actual eyes staring back at them. Those eyes are the loudest in the silence, eager for the smallest of uncertainty. Any mistake. In every nook and cranny, there they are. Worse if they’re alone or they suppress it. yup, you can imagine how it drives them crazy.

Outside the imperfect trio, possibly 3 and WPNZ would believe them, having a stronger sense than the others but can’t see them like the hosts. 3 for IGBP, and WPNZ for Toomp (from OG theory, the keyboard is a byproduct of Toomp).

anyway, the trio would do the spider-man meme and be like "wait, you see them too?"

some misc caine art i've made while working on bigger projects

this is based off that one moment in the void scene where his prototype form creates a hand! wanted to imagine what it'd look like now if he suddenly had to go from a dot to his current model!

and admittedly i've become a little fascinated with the concept of caine in his first few years after escaping the box and creating the circus, caine was probably so much worse at first if almost every dev member abstracting is anything to go by

bonus seepy caine propaganda because i think after 21 years of working non-stop, day after day, he too deserves a big fucking nap, you mean to tell me this computer/program has been running since the 90s without ever restarting??? fucking hell!

do you think blue would get invited/pestered by caine into helping design environmental models? since blue struggles with creativity, i'm imagining them creating picture perfect, stock-image-like generated models of things, and then presenting them to caine to be artfully tweaked so they don't feel so... plastic and stale and void of personality. perfect flowers tweaked to have a bent petal here, a twisted stem there, a bit of brown creeping in on that edge there. meanwhile caine trying to help blue develop more of a sense for "creativity" during it maybe? offering instructions to just sort of... advice on how to rng slap defects in places?

idk. the brothers creating together and both being "bad" at it for different reasons. caine's flowers being so bright and full of personality they border on abstract until he carves them into something more recognizable by comparing them to his training data images. blue's flowers being like a flat png stock image given form. the sillies. <3

this is also random but something something, caine with bee imagery and blue with caterpillar imagery. a bright buzzing thing constantly moving and busy, if a little clumsy about it, and absolutely essential to the ecosystem. a small slow wriggling thing disguised as something meant to blend in or scare away unwanted attention, still growing and figuring itself out before becoming a beautiful butterfly, utterly bound to it's nature and the laws of it's life cycle unless it wants to die.

also abstract shapes bee vs singular perfectly straight featureless blue line caterpillar shfs. everyone wondering if blue's caterpillar is even alive before it starts vaguely inching across the floor like an inchworm.

Blue would have those "so perfect it feels lifeless" and Caine's would be so wacky and messy that it just screams him, if that makes sense lol.

But yes! Caine invites Blue to help with incorporating the humans' suggestions into expanding the circus (modeling and integrating them).

Blue didn't really like the idea of making something that would benefit the humans at first, but seeing Caine being so giddy over creating in general made them want to help. They wanted to be a part of something that gave Caine joy. Plus, they wanted to be useful somehow.

They end up learning from each other, Caine learning how to ground his output to something that's less wacky, Blue trying to learn how to actually be more imaginative, observing Caine and all that.

Also, FUCK  I wished I saw this ask sooner because that bee/caterpillar comparison is why I was so stuck on the idea of Blue enjoying gardening.

A caterpillar going through the motions before finally breaking out and becoming a butterfly, a gardener watching their plants and their flowers grow from something so small to something… beautiful. Growing into their own, in a way.

Lk want to know what the reaction was from the rest of the cast first day on the set when they saw Ryan's acting. He looks like the most low energy dude ever in Civi clothes

Actors who have worked with him before (Damien, Chris, Maggie) were less surprised.

The others who only knew Ryan from the other side of the screen were completely flabbergasted when they saw sleepy Ryan down three monsters and turn into… Caine.

I can just imagine one or all of the gang coming up to Kinger and asking where Caine is.

Only for Kinger to silently point up at the ceiling, prompting them to look up.

And Caine is just scuttling around on the ceiling like an excited giant spider.

(Btw I adore your art and animations so much! They always bring a smile to my face when I see them!)
