“This is one of your most stupid ideas! If not the stupidest of them all!”
The caramel hair colored female was infuriated and it was evident, if not by her tone than by her looks. Her eyebrows were knitted together and her lips were tugged down into a frown. She was mad with him, but he thought opposite of her. That was one of his best ideas actually, that’s why he just laughed as she took the thermometer away from him to check his temperature. He had a fever, he knew even without her deepening her frown at the numbers shown. He had a fever. He fell sick... or have been constantly falling sick for the past month or two. At least, constantly meant three times in two months, and he had never been sick before for his 2000 something years of living.
“You are sick and you just had to go ink your neck! Are you insane!?”
Oh... That’s what she meant. The numeric numbers he had acquired the day prior while she was at work. Okay, maybe he had to agree, that he was a bit foolish to do that, but starting to feel another fever rising in his body made him a bit ecstatic and foolish. So he went right into one tattoo studio and did it.
Two thousand and sixteen.
The END of his immortality.
“I’m fine.” He told her in a raspy tone and gave her a small smile, reaching with his hand to cup her cheek. “I’m excellent.” And he was. He was mortal now, which meant he could go on living where he is now. Which mean he did not tangle himself with her just to break her, like he did to Amanda. Which meant he could stay here. Stay with her, with Minwoo, with his students, with his cousin, with everyone else. Which mean he finally had a place to stay.
“You have nearly 38°C fever, don’t go ‘I’m excellent’ on me.” her tone was more sorrowful than mad, and he knew she was worried. They have been together for about a year now and he had never fallen sick, even when she had been the one at his place and he took care of her. And now it was happening too often. It was not like he was not warned about it. “We’re going to the doctor tomorrow.”
“I’m going to the doctor. You go to work as usual.”
“Look what you did when I was not watching.” she said sternly, pressing her index finger close to the inked numbers on his neck. With her being a kindergarten teacher, it made the finally mortal male to feel like one of the kids she was taking care of. Well, at the moment he may be one indeed.
“The best idea of my life.” he joked and earned another mad huff from his girlfriend before she stood from the bed and informed him she will bring him some medicine for the fever. “My best decision for all of my life’s worth.” he whispered once she walked out of the room and turned on his side.
He could get used to this. To mortality. To feeling the fear of dying.
At least now he felt at peace.
