I’m not ashamed to be seen trying I’m not ashamed to be seen trying I’m not ashamed to be seen trying I’m not ashamed to be seen trying I’m not ashamed to be seen trying I’m not ashamed to be seen trying!!!
my problem is that i yearn for the forum
its so insane being told by friends and mutuals that people they know irl like or have seen my art and genuinely enjoy it. that's so crazy to me that my existence somewhat transcends into ppls IRL friend and family circles.

It’s my favorite time of year: cold enough I can dress like a black blob and not overheat.
Rags in hair. A trend in certain subculture circles in the 80s. Notably seen on a few celebrities like Adam Ant and Pete Burns
Second slide: text from “Wild Style” by Cyn Zarco & Robert Holfler, 1982 photo by Derek Ridgers, 1981 photo by Derek Ridgers, both taken from the book “The London Youth Portraits”
When I say you need to use your imagination to be goth… this is what I mean.
This dress was originally tie-dye with these cheap plastic beads on the straps and lower fringe. That was nothing I couldn’t fix with wire cutters and a dye bath. I thrifted it because it was a lightweight rayon (good for summer) and I liked the asymmetrical fringed hem. I’ve been looking at a lot of scans of 80s BOY London catalogs and have felt inspired by the deconstructed and asymmetrical silhouettes I saw in them.
Another two goth DIYs since people liked the last one. I can’t remember if I’ve shared these here or not. You need to be able to have a vision at a thrift store and I hope this will help you develop an eye for possibilities.
First photo: Loose linen top I thrifted, removed embellishments from, and dyed black. Loose linen clothing is excellent for hot weather, and I often will buy linen clothing when thrifting regardless of color, because it can always be dyed. I’ve dyed many linen pieces black now and have found that fiber reactive dyes yield more consistent results for black than standard off the shelf dye like RIT do. I’m also wearing some scraps of lace tied around my wrist in that photo, as a way to create something bold and black around my wrist without the heaviness of leather
Second photo: t-shirt dress thing I thrifted, dyed black, cut the neckline out of, and created a net piece for the shoulder by knotting thread together. I ended up cutting the neckline too big and the net piece helps keep it on my shoulder. A lot of people asked how I made that part, and its just string knotted together in a series of overhand knots and then sewn onto the fabric
I got to attend my first red carpet for the premiere of FX’s The Shards with some friends last night. I am the odd one out but I wouldn’t have it any other way, being weird got me there in the first place! I don’t have the $$$ for an image license so you get the watermarked version
I’m wearing a 1960s men’s suit I thrifted for $12 and tailored to fit me better, for the type of 80s I try to capture it felt appropriate because that’s the sort of thing that people would be thrifting then and definitely the kind of stuff I’d be thrifting had I actually lived the 80s
I can finally share this, this is a piece I did for the official book tie in (The Shards Guide to Being Hot & Rich) for the FX series The Shards. I still can’t believe this, this is my first real project 🥹 I really don’t get to do a lot of stuff like this because of my niche.
A note: I did very much do my research for this. You can find sources from the early 80s using the term “punk” to refer to things we would definitely call new wave now. The Preppy Handbook even references so called “punk preps”, that enjoy music like Talking Heads, but obviously through today’s lens we would call that new wave and not punk.
So I just tried to send you a message on your strawpage and I hit send to early, so it just says "hi! Your art" 😆 anyway! It's awesome and you have awesome ideas. Also I hope you have a great day/night/timezone!
