hii, i'm eve!! i'm a dnp editor, mainly on twitter (InternetIsQueer) but also on tiktok (forever_ronance), i've had a few people ask me why i don't post my edits on tumblr so i've finally gotten around to making an account :))

What background do you have that contributes to how good you are at editing / what transferable skills do you have? For example, I’m a director so I approach my edits from a narrative-based angle but I know musicians make really great edits that highlight the rhythm & instrumental nuances and writers can capture great metaphors in the song lyrics.

wow this is a cool question !! i play instruments (guitar and mainly piano) and sing so there might be a rhythmic thing and i am not a director but i do film studies at university (alongside history) and i think very much i view edits as a narrative. but honestly, i think it's mainly writing? im more into non fiction/media analysis, and when i write a journalistic piece, i try to add an arc to it. it's a way of taking the reader on a journey, and i think my Narrative Edits are essentially doing that using clips and lyrics as a way of expressing a story (and sometimes myself/own emotions) <3

Hi! I wanted to tell you that I saw some of your edits originally from TikTok and then found out you were here on Tumblr, and from the first one I saw I was very happy. I didn't know that I was enjoying so many videos from the same person (they were sent to me by someone else) but it made so much sense

I used to make long(er) format videos years ago and it's been a little sad to see that what's doing better on TikTok are very short edits, with the same clips over and over. Which you know can be fun of course! But I'm really appreciative of people like you that clearly choose clips very deliberately, the lyrics, the voice overs, they communicate so much. I don't know if most people care about that sort of thing but I figured since you're putting in the work, you probably do. So I wanted to tell you how much I love the concepts you come up with for each video and how much it reminds me of the type of edits I loved back when I started making my own like 10 years ago. Sorry for sounding like an old person, I swear I'm not 😭

oh my god, i am literally so grateful to hear this 😭😭 not to go off on a rant but last year i got to a point with my edits where i had my formula down and was popping off on tiktok but i just felt so creatively unfulfilled, editing had gone from self expression to paint by the numbers for validation (cause let's face it, algorithms aren't a big fan of when you take several weeks to select the optimal clips to try and create a narrative by pairing songs with dan and phil clips lmao). these lyric driven edits have allowed me to use my style and knowledge of editing to finally create something that feels like it couldn't have been made by just anyone and i LOVE making them even if they take forever and aren't as successful, and i know that it doesn't matter to most people so hearing this....ugh you've made my week thank you <33

#this is also why i've discovered i like posting my edits on tumblr!!#it's so much less algorithmic on here and it means that even if my edits flop on tiktok i have a bit of motivation #even when they pop off on tiktok #it's always in spite of the algorithm and because of lovely people engaging #thank you everyone #and thank YOU very specifically once again
