20 September 2022, Filippo successfully defends his thesis. Probably the most straight forward viva voce ever but many thanks to Adam Packer and Tom Mrsic-Flogel (middle photo) for putting Filippo's epic thesis under scrutiny. Filippo's work details the postnatal development of interneuron circuits in V1 (and S1BF) in vitro and in vivo.
September 2022, changes in personnel. Photos 1 & 2: September sees Florian (MD, from the Cader lab) invade and pretend to use the LSPS system. While (Photos 3 & 4) Ivan officially transfers to team Butt and is awarded his lego.
9-13 July 2022, Paris. The Lab travel to Paris for FENS 2022 (in the middle of a heatwave). Simon arrived just in time to give a talk, check out the sites, and pay for dinner.
Endless summer evenings in Oxford, 5 July 2022. The Departmental Garden at Merton College gives way to a Lab dinner in the glasshouse at Gees. It is farewell to Andrew, welcome to Hannah, and Marko is - as ever - eating cake.
Easter 2022, Welcome to the lab Kaesha and Lawrence! Our adventurous duo of FHS students for this academic year. Naturally we welcomed them to the lab with the traditional glass of champagne (really? I think it was another occasion...). The Lego people never lie: intrepid space explorer with laser gun: Kaesha. Angry carrot farmer balanced precariously on a horse: Lawrence.
Mentorship: the secret to amazing scientific endeavour and great fun will always be good mentors; individuals that let you flourish as a scientist, explore your ideas and contribute to the community. Here (in one lucky photo from the Brain Prize banquet) are two of the very best.
Brain Prize, 22-24 May 2022, Copenhagen. amazing to return to Copenhagen to celebrate the pioneering achievements of Ole, Martyn and Sylvia in the locomotor field. A walk down memory lane - 20 year old memories!

“Fresh Look on Brain Inhibition” Conference, Marseille, 25-26 April 2022. Many thanks to Rosa Cossart and Dominique Debanne for the invitation to present our data at the Brain Inhibition conference in Marseille. The south of France in April lived up to expectation - fine weather, excellent science and a competitive game of pétanque: (L-R) Dan Feldman, Ivan Soltesz (team West Coast?), Ede Rancz (local knowledge, partially obscured), and Nelson Spruston.
9 December 2021, We’re back eating cake to celebrate Nesta’s birthday! Blowing out candles (and eating cake) continues to prove tricky in the Covid-19 era.
8 December, 2021 After a Covid-19 enforced hiatus, the traditional 3-lab Christmas dinner is back in style. Thanks to the Keble SCR team for putting on a fantastic dinner and then to the Royal Oak for the after-party.
8 November, 2021. Happy birthday to Marko! Alessandra, Marko and Gabi join the lab to explore visual cortex and the contribution of interneuron to encoding of emergent higher order cognition as well as a bit of serotonin. Nanaimo Cake (?) provided by Heather!

3 June 2021, PI beers down the (reopened) pub. King’s Arms it is for a pint with Drs. Adam Packer and Armin Lak. Plotting the future of neuroscience over an IPA or two.

May 28, 2021, Filippo has his confirmation of status with Prof. Kerry Walker and Dr. Adam Packer. No sign of Filippo as the CoS is online but I managed to sneak up on Adam in remote interrogation mode!
End May 2021. More social time on the balcony (we do research as well) as Covid-19 rules are further relaxed. All 3 labs enjoying the new found freedom.
