FINAL WEB MASH UP
Salt n Pepa - a web mashup site dedicated to food and recipes. Simply search for 1 or 2 ingredients and browse through the results.
A screen grab of my current mash up pipe. It is pretty basic as I am not very familiar with yahoo pipes. This pipe uses the RSS feed from three food/cooking websites and allows you to search for up to three ingredients and gives you corresponding recipes.
Project Progress
I am having a bit of trouble getting my head around what we actually have to do for the assessment. I am not very familiar with yahoo pipes, php or javascript so I am struggling to produce a mash-up that works how I would like it to work and also look good. I want this mash-up to function like a smartphone app so I need to get my head around the functionality and user case scenario of it. I think I will probably stick to a mash up primary structured through Yahoo pipes. I will keep the programming to a minimum as I'm sure it will just confuse me and try to utilise yahoo pipes to tweak and structure the design layout of the mash-up as much as possible.
This is a very basic prototype of my yahoo pipes Salt n Pepa app.

6 New Features/Expectations of Web Interfaces
1. web-centricity
2. user content
3. online collaboration
4. security/privacy
5. social media interaction
6. mobile devices
(in no particular order)
1. Web-centricity
As more and more internet capable devices are becoming available the need for easy and instant access to various forms of data has become of prominent importance. The emergence of web-centricity or cloud computing allows data to be accessed easily and remotely from a network of web servers or the 'cloud'. This allows users to access the desired data from various locations and on multiple devices without actually being connected to the other devices or locations.
iCloud - an Apple interface that allows users to store data (documents, music, photos) on a remote computer server which can be easily accessed and downloaded to multiple devices.
2. User Content
User generated content has grown to become a significant contributor to the web. With the creation of blogging sites and explosion of mobile apps, user generated content is being encouraged all around us. Social media interaction and user content exist very close together and this convergence allows users to publicly create, share and publish their ideas, feelings and discoveries.

3. Online Collaboration
As more and more advancements in the internet occur, large companies are now able to disperse their workforce throughout the world and still keep in touch via the web. Online collaboration tools and interfaces help to bring these otherwise disengaged individuals and their ideas together, in real time, through the one source of data, wether that be a document or brainstorming This helps to diminish the distance between employees and employers and also connect companies to distant clients.
Dabbleboard - An online collaboration tool centered around the idea of the traditional whiteboard.
4. Security and Privacy
As internet banking and e-commerce rapidly gain popularity so do the inherent risks associated with these factors of the online world. Users of online commerce interfaces such as ebanking websites and ebay need to be reassured that their personal and banking details are going to be secure and safe.
Web interfaces that require either personal or credit card information must make sure that their users feel comfortable providing such information. One safety measure most interfaces utilise are Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) web connections which help users idendify safe and secure sites from others.
Paypal is an online interface that guarantees the safety of your personal and bank details by using secure websites and offering users 'buyer protection'.
