Woah, man! In The Heights got to my gut and made me cry my eyes out. Am I a sensitive person when it comes to movies? Yes. But the feelings I had while watching it... I don't know how to explain this but like... MY FLAG was in it, a big part of the dialogues are in a mixed Spanglish and the dreamers focus broke my heart.
In a way I felt part of the barrio, it might not be mine but I saw a little of mine here and there... there are some things one can't explain. The younger me fought my Latinx identity side for so long, they taught me to. Believing I'm more European or damn, I even liked to recognize more of my Arab side. I forget sometimes the land that raised me, fed me, gave me my accent and my traditions, my soul... my HOME.
Thanks, Jon M. Chu, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Quiara Alegría Hudes, crew and cast. I'm proud and happy for the representation, it was freaking beautiful. Also, I think I found my new favorite movie.
