I had the sudden need for some Reed900 angst, y'know, as you do. And drew this. The song Little Astronaut has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it a couple of days ago so, naturally, I imaged a dramatic scene where Gavin is either unavailable for Nines, or circumstances has pulled them apart and they cannot be with each other right now. Or, the saddest reason of all, Gavin is gone, forever.

Summary: When Wei Wuxian responded to the Level Five Alert he'd expected it to be bad. What he hadn't expected was for it to be as bad as it was, let alone that it would get worse so quickly that he was going have to face it by himself. Kay's comments: This was absolutely perfect, it hit all the right spots! Short and so satisfying! A modern AU with cultivation, where Wei Wuxian is an unaffiliated cultivator who's the only one to act when a yaoguai infestation gets out of control. I loved the world-building in this, loved Wei Wuxian's portrayel and really enjoyed the hurt/comfort and Lan Wangji arriving just in time to sweep Wei Wuxian into his arms. Excerpt: Following proper etiquette—which he was perfectly capable of, thank you very much—Wei Wuxian landed well away from all the chaos, making the final approach on foot. Once he was close enough he tried to get their attention with a few quick clearings of his throat, but when that failed he finally interrupted them, asking, "Where's the coordinator? I need to report in." Unimportant unaffiliated cultivator that he was, he was barely worth more than a brief glance away from their argument about the proper procedure for stenciling a large array in the rain onto cracked concrete before one of the Oh So Important CCAs deigned to wave him in the direction of the warehouse behind them. "SC Su's still doing the site survey. He should be out soon." Wei Wuxian frowned at that. Yes, the council assigned senior coordinating cultivator was supposed to do a complete examination of the area to better allocate the responding cultivators when they arrived, but considering the preliminary work would have been done before the alert even went out and that was at least ten minutes ago if not longer, he should have been finished long before now. "Still?"

Thank you to everyone whose ever read one of my fics, kudosed, commented, nodded their head in 'not bad not bad' before clicking off, to even those who've clicked in, gone uh what? and left, you've all been amazing.

I think at this point I'm going to stop writing for a while. The hyperfixation has ended and I have more joy doing other things now. I may stick my head back into fanfic every now and again if there's something I'm desperate to write, but the truth of the matter is there is no joy here anymore for me. Writing fanfic has just become a chore and I'm not interested in something that doesn't make me happy.

This is why I try to reblog things that have little notes - the fandom NEEDS new people, or it dies, but the OLD people are there to support the new creators! New creators will leave and forget if the fandom doesn't welcome them, because they feel left out. We should remember that all great artists and writers, even the famous ones in big name fandoms, they all started from nothing.

If you don't want a fandom to die feed the sparks that come anew, don't blow on the old burnt ashes hoping they'll start again.

I'm gonna say it.

It's unhinged to assume that someone's taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.

That is a bonkers assumption to make.

I'm tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.

I'm tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold-- that they should be afraid of fiction's dire influence on a reader's moral decay or that it's a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.
