So funny that by not wanting to turn Scully and Mulder's story into a romance, it became one of the best het romance stories ever
They were saying the most insane things about each other halfway through season 2. Their bond was so strong by that point that it was impossible for them to have anyone else in their life.
assigning Scully to the X-files was the funniest thing the US government ever did because imagine you send this logical, rule-following scientist to spy on the Basement Weirdo but instead they fall in love and soul-bond so intensely that it’s actually a legitimate threat to national security. all the super-important super-evil government conspiracies are at risk because you (the US government) accidentally pulled the best matchmaking job in history and now they’re so in love and oh shit they’re breaking into another top-secret facility, they’re discovering evidence of another war crime, they’re gazing longingly into each other’s eyes next to a crashed ufo and it’s all your fucking fault
So funny that by not wanting to turn Scully and Mulder's story into a romance, it became one of the best het romance stories ever
You must be The Petries.
The X-Files | Arcadia | premiered March 7, 1999
Mulder was having THE time of his life…
Scully in episode 1: I don't really agree with Mulder on anything, but he seems earnest and like a nice enough guy. I think he honestly just needs a friend.
Scully in episode 2: Mulder, my new best friend, has been captured by the US Army, so I will now commit several Class-A felonies and enter into an armed hostage situation to get him back.
The plot could have easily been about jesus coming to earth, almost leading to the second coming, ultimately deciding against it and the showdown being between humanity against heaven and hell, with crowley and aziraphale on humanity's side. Which is what s1 promised. Why did they spend so much time on random things and ultimately the story in the end was opposite of what was promised?
My thoughts about the Good Omens Finale
Note: I do not wish to convince anyone of my opinion or be convinced of theirs, I just want to write down how I feel about the finale. Also, I've heard that the creators are getting some hate messages, omg? Please if you have a slightest inclination to do that or to be mean to someone because you disagree with them then log off the internet and go for a walk... try to find a rainbow, feed peas to a duck ❤.
Simply put... I hated the finale. During while some things felt quite rushed I was thinking that it's because of the 6 episodes to 90 minutes shortening and even if it won't be perfect it will still be worth it because of the ending. And then came the scene in the bookshop with God and Satan and our ineffables after which they... died. And then we saw some two human clones who looked like them ending up together.
...
Crying, I couldn't have believed my eyes. The finale killed Aziraphale and Crowley and all the characters we came to know and love and replaced them with some random people who looked like them and we are supposed to care about?
Have I really just watch Soho struggle, learn that Mutt have died, Nina and Maggie had to leave, and people there were barely hanging on to be given a bit of hope by Jesus so they would be erased and this wouldn't matter at all?
I can't even start to begin to describe how much this is not Good Omens that I love. My words fail me and I am left stuttering and waving my hands erratically.
Not starting again but fix what we have has been an important point of Good Omens. Same as Job and his wife don't want some new children but the old ones. But somehow replacing the Earth is the ideal ending now?
The finale is trying to convince us that it's better because now there won't be any Hell and Heaven with their influences, but the big part of Good Omens was always that the humans do have their free will unlike most angels and demons - and all the big events on Earth like World Wars or Spanish Inquisition are created by humans, no matter how many coins Crowley glues on the pavement. If this was truly a problem then even a God's edict that from now no direct influencing people would do (not that we have that much reason to believe that there was that much influencing going on in the first place - most demons and angels kept to their dominions and Aziraphale and Crowley had The Arrangement), Aziraphale and Crowley could have been left on the Earth to make sure no such things was happening. But no, let's throw this all out, kill everyone and start over with real dinosaurs this time because it will surely be better... or will it? The humanity without Hell and Heaven seems the same to me in the ending. Hmm.
The whole scene with the God and Satan (what happens to him? who knows) where God calls Aziraphale lazy felt very very weird.
My brain is completely baffled why I should care about some random two men that look like Aziraphale and Crowley when I just saw my ineffables die. It's not them. It's like someone killed me and cloned me. I would not be very happy about it. And I know that some people like to say it is at least an imprint of them because they created the universe and they find each other in every universe over and over but nothing like is stated there, it is just wishful thinking of a broken heart imho. Aziraphale and Crowley are dead after Aziraphale spend years trying to make Heaven better and Crowley spent years in depression...
...which is another thing of itself:
Crowley is an optimist. (so seeing him in the finale makes me want to put the gif of from The Godfather: "look how they massacred my boy" here :D)
I hate this trend where you have an uplifting funny movie/season/book/something and you see that it is successful and people love it because it gives them comfort and hope and you go "oh but what if we make it drama where suddenly our characters full of hope and energy are depressed and see dying as the only option because surely that is what the fans of the original material appreciate". Fuck that.
I can't help it but the finale doesn't feel like Pratchett. At all. Perhaps there is a reason for that:
I have decided that I will consider only the book and S1 the canon in my head (perhaps with occasional visits from Bildad, Muriel or Furfur ;)). But I simply can't take this ending into my heart.
I have been waiting for the Finale to find out if it rekindles my passion for Good Omens, which sort of died away after the info about NG came out. I'm afraid it hasn't and I don't plan to update this blog much more anymore, perhaps sometimes if I see something that I want to share but I am not sure how much. Thank you for following me all these years, it's been a blast ❤.
(I still love Good Omens. I am going to The Ineffable Con 7 and I will look forward to meeting you there or at another opportunity. ❤❤❤)
What was the point of writing a damn good story about a demon and angel who fell in love with humanity if it was all for nothing
you ever feel like you were born with something rotten inside you and if people get close enough they’re gonna find out
junho lingering in that room waiting just for youngwoo to see and notice him but eventually give up AND LATER we got to see how his voice trigger the memory for youngwoo and help her in court. im crying actually.
‘that’s disappointing’
I’m gonna ramble like it’s nobody’s business. I was captivated by woo-young and jun-ho from the start. mainly because I usually tend to favor the second lead in kdramas (this started with hotelier and you’re beautiful) so to see a second lead main lead just fills me with butterflies (i thought they would finally settle after han joon-hwi but then jun-ho comes along)
- it’s in the way they are both so thirsty for each other and yet it’s also in such an innocent way. I was expecting the fluff, but the blatant show of desire on both ends makes me feel like I’m eating a full course dinner. I do not blame either of them. At all.
- imma add this. the hilarious misunderstanding between woo-young and ra-mi. ‘good looking one? you mean attorney minwoo?’ woo-young utterly perplexed ‘what are you on about? do you not have eyes?’ her absolutely sure that anyone would just know she means jun-ho when she says ‘handsome’. in the same way, jun-ho was gobsmacked by her in that wedding dress, woo-young pretty much noticed how ridiculously attractive he was when they first met. so I’m on the ‘she fell first, but he fell harder (oh so much harder)’ camp.
- it’s in the way the female is the proactive one about making her intentions known. there’s no will they, won’t they miscommunication. if he was given a chance to, jun-ho would shout it from the rooftops (he already has actually to suyeon even), but he can’t ever get the words out because of the care and respect he has for her and his own need for a perfect moment. that beautiful sunset? that thoughtful gesture of showing her the whale painting? the absolutely sweet gift of an ocean projector (where can I get one too??). This is a man who loves his grand gestures.
- the way the love triangle was resolved in such quick order and beautifully at that. there’s no being obtuse or petty. suyeon’s embarrassed I’m sure, but more than that because she can see the depth of feelings between the two as well as woo-young’s insecurity, she puts her first. more than the hurt is the overwhelming care and protectiveness she feels over woo-young that lead her to convince jun-ho to be clearer.
- the way minwoo is adamantly shipping suyeon and junho together, not even considering woo-young because of his severe dislike of her, but irony of ironies suyeon being the one who pushes the two closer together. woo-young has such good friends seriously.
- that line, omg that line that all of us CANNOT forget. It is such a devastating line and look, but what just gets me, shoots me right in the heart, is not how flirty he is when he says it, but rather the hint of heartbreak, and the utter longing on his face when he says it, like of course he’s disappointed, because everything woo-young said? heart rate beating faster?? he feels it each and every time he’s near woo-young. heck they don’t even have to be in the same room. he just hears her name and his heart rate picks up and he just melts. the dichotomy of restraint and care. you can feel how badly he wants to touch her, be closer to her, both physically and to know her, but he refrains all the time, even in verbalizing his feelings, not because he’s ashamed, but because he always wants to be careful and respect her boundaries.
- the difference between how he interacts with her, and how other people who love her interact with her, is it’s not only him wanting to accommodate her and give her his full attention. it’s also him wanting her attention on him too - so, so much.
- with ra-mi and suyeon, woo-young is affectionate in her own way, and they recognize that and feel loved. there are times her father understands her and yet there are also times he wants more of her care and attention, but he’s resigned about how that’s just the way woo-young is.
- but with jun-ho, each and every time you can feel that wanting to just be noticed by her, wanting her to want to spend time with him - to want him. at first it was just curiosity and intrigue, perhaps infatuation after seeing that absolutely gorgeous smile and wedding dress, but then it became so much more after seeing her vulnerability and brilliance. it wouldn’t be a joke to say that he eventually ended up wishing woo-young would look at him the way she looks at whales.
- in other words, he became greedy wanting that straightforward and pure gaze to be on him and for him. but despite that, he never pushes, never intrudes, never demands her attention as if he has the right to it. he just waits and eventually that waiting is rewarded. after the initial confusion, and how woo-young always make his head spin, once the realization sets in, you see the fragility on his face. he’s being as vulnerable the same way woo-young is letting herself be vulnerable in front of him. in a way he feels like glass. he understands that woo-young has the power to break his heart. but despite that chance of rejection, he presses forward anyway, even if in baby steps. he’s being brave the same way woo-young is being brave in front of him.
- in closing, they are perfect for each other, your honor.
- (now if only they stopped getting interrupted.)
Lee Jun-ho is hot secretary trope you cannot change my mind. he is just out here with his pretty eyes and his long legs and his broad shoulders! being helpful! smiling!
here Choi Soo-yeon take my coffee i will make more no problem. here Attorney Woo i have some documents let me arrange them for you while i bend over so you can see my big chest. i will roll up my sleeves just so while i am driving so you can see how good my forearms look with my bracelet. i will carry these file boxes so you don’t have to hold anything heavy you can just look at my biceps. he just follows Woo Young-woo around carrying her stuff! (why do you think he went so puppy dog eyed when she tried to carry the boxes for him??? that’s his job!!!)
our girl Woo Young-woo literally takes thirty minutes out of her day to just. Stare At Him. (i love this for her.) everyone in the office has a crush on him this is canon day one. bonus he is also sassy! and a flirt! ‘oh because you got what you wanted youre going to leave now?’ ‘that’s disappointing.’ ‘i think it would be better if you opened your mouth a little.’ ‘you have an eyelash, let me get that for you’ (sir it does not take that long to remove an eyelash i had one today it took TWO seconds. you took TEN.)
Woo Young-woo hardworking attorney calling him at night from the office, he is in bed reading a book in his little pink shirt like oh honey you must be working so hard i miss you. the ultimate Woo Young-woo simp and the hottie of the office i love this for him.
Lee Junho being okay with not being able to hold Youngwoo's hand the moment she says it's very uncomfortable for her. It's Youngwoo who suggests holding hands, or trying to, at least, even if for those 57 seconds. And Junho's endearing, sweet sweet smile when she says that agrees to it.
Junho saying it's okay when she barely pulls a thirty second hand-holding and saying it's okay, we can hold hands next time.
Lee my-feelings-aren't-temporary Junho who is distressed at finding out the story about the Stonewall path and immediately suggests stopping to walk and going somewhere else because my man's brain stops working anytime someone suggests pulling him and Youngwoo apart 😭😭😭
Lee Junho noticing that Youngwoo is being very uncomfortable in the courtroom and noticing the way she keeps fiddling with her hands.
Lee Junho who knows he still likes (loves) Youngwoo but doesn't laugh at Youngwoo's innocent question of "Do you still like me?" And instead answers with a "Yes, I do", albeit he cannot resist teasing her by telling her she hurt his feelings and making sure she knows he's teasing.
Lee Junho who perhaps finds it a little funny that Youngwoo has a folder of date ideas but being delighted in the fact that the list is long 😭😭😭
Lee Junho who asks if taking her home is written in the file or not, and suggests with starting something as simple as that to make her comfortable and to have long talks and get to know her better.
LEE JUNHO WHO TELLS HIS FRIENDS YOUNGWOO AND HIM ARE ON A DATE AND THAT SHE'S A LAWYER!!! A PROUD BF!!!
LEE JUNHO, WHO, DESPITE BEING TIPSY/DRUNK, IS FUCKING ENRAGED TO FIND OUT PEOPLE THINK IT'S SYMPATHY THAT HE HAS FOR YOUNGWOO AND NOT LOVE. NICE AND KIND LEE JUNHO WHO FUCKING LOSES IT ENOUGH TO THROW HANDS WHILE BEING PLASTERED BECAUSE HE HASN'T ONCE LOOKED AT HER IN SYMPATHY BUT AS A COMPLETE WOMAN HE TRULY LOVES.
Lee Junho who understands why Youngwoo took the case and doesn't put her feelings down. Who listens when Youngwoo says "when you have a disability, I think merely liking someone is not enough. because even if I say it's love, if other people say it's not, then it's not."
Lee Junho responds with a sincere "Even if other people say it's not, if you say it's love, it's love."
LEE JUNHO WHO DOESN'T MISS A BEAT IN RESPONDING WITH "YES." WHEN YOUNGWOO SAYS "LOVING ME IS HARD. BUT ARE YOU STILL GOING TO?"
Lee Junho who soooooo wants to kiss her and steps in closer when the lights go off but comes to his senses and takes a step back when the lights are on, because he knows Youngwoo might be uncomfortable and might not want to be touched/kissed.
LEE JUNHO WHO WAITS UNTIL YOUNGOO PUTS HER HANDS ON HIS SHIRT AND LOOKS HIM IN THE EYE AND GIVES HER CONSENT AND KISSING HER ONLY THEN.
Lee Junho who doesn't laugh at Youngwoo's inexperience about love and kissing and instead tells her tips on how to kiss better so that she's comfortable in doing so.
Just...just Lee Junho y'all.
Just Lee Junho not being a green flag but an entire fucking forest. Lee Junho, a man written by a woman.
An ordinary, middle-class guy with an ordinary job who is understanding, sincere, loving and committed to his woman. The man of every woman's dream.
This is the reason why everyone is nuts for him.
Just Lee Junho y'all.
Don’t act like you’re going to listen to her whale stories forever and then tell her to stop not even after a year. If you’re going to hurt her like that, you shouldn’t start anything at all. I’m telling you this now, if you think your feelings are temporary, don’t be nice to her. My feelings aren’t temporary!
EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO (2022) dir. Yoo In Sik
As a former humanities student, I feel it is my duty to reblog this one.
A tech bro tried to convince me AI was amazing cause "you could make 30,000 screenplays in minutes" not realising that every single one would be shit, you'd have to sift through everything just to find some good bits, time wasted that could've been spent just writing a screenplay.
Technology Brothers know nothing about what goes into creating a work, other than the fact a work has been created to be exploited for cash. They see creativity as an investment opportunity, not a love for humanity.
Matthew Dow Smith: "Just remember: Arts & Humanities are so useless and pointless that Tech Bros were driven to spend billions of dollars to try and get a computer to do something that badly approximates something Arts & Humanities students could do half asleep and wired on coffee the night before the due date."
i really like outsider POV, but the thing is, it fundamentally works better when whatever is going on with the characters in question is so fucking weird that no reasonable outsider could ever discern it
like, the ideal outsider POV should have at least some element of 'what the fuck is wrong with these people'.
Like the POV of a social worker that just got out of a horse and was held at gunpoint by a man before the man's psychiatrist tenderly took his hand and lowered it and then grasped his face bringing it close to his own in the most romantic way possible.
