Secret realm

We listened to Bach at night,

its tenderness so palpable

a long awaited kiss

with divine hunger,

felt in each accelerated note,

the tenderness, a testament

to the intense fragility of being alive.

Then, I asked you

if the composer found

a secret realm within his music

to escape the world's cruelty.

I'll never forget your reply,

"Perhaps, he carried a lover

within a sacred space

of his heart, and his music

was his way of making love

to her."

At once, the music

became transcendent:

his notes, the fingers

stroking her face,

the violin, sweet ecstasy.
