Disclaimer – I’ve never read any of the Game of Thrones series (though I do enjoy the show).  But my wife has, and has the Jezebel knowledge to make a more informed comment on this graphic.  So, in her words…

George R. R. Martin claims that he is a feminist, but there has still been ample debate over whether his popular series, Game of Thrones, reflects those values. While the women of Westeros may strive for power just as the men do, a word-frequency analysis of the books thus far reveals a clear bias towards male terminology. One interesting pattern? In books 4/5, “girl” starts to overtake “boy.” We just may be seeing a future queen.

Saiga is a type of antelope. They are known for their huge, inflatable, and humped nose which help them to filter out airborne dust during the dry summer migrations, and filter out cold air before it reaches their lungs during winter. They are a migratory species, migrating in the summer and winter and can run up to 80 km per hour in a short time.

Local people kill saiga because of its meat and horns. Horns are used in traditional Chinese medicine. Saiga is listed as critically endangered species and were once in the millions but today only less than 50,000 left in the wild.

This is not a tasty gummy sweet but a Jewel Caterpillar found in Amazon Rainforest. They are covered with sticky goo-like, gellatinous tubercles that provides protection from its predator like ants until they metamorphosise into winged moths.

Sapphirina copepod, a.k.a. "sea sapphire" is a tiny shrimp like crustacean that makes up the bottom of the food chain. The microscopic layers of crystal plates inside their cells catch light and reflect back different hues, from bright gold to deep blue that resembles like a gem. 

When they’re abundant near the water’s surface the sea shimmers like diamonds falling from the sky. Japanese name this kind of water, “tama-mizu”, jeweled water. Combine this nifty trick with the sea sapphire’s impressively transparent body, and you have an animal as radiant as a star in one moment, and invisible in the next.

Deep Learning

Computer vision research project at the Purdue University is developing software that understands the world and objects that it sees:

Researchers are working to enable smartphones and other mobile devices to understand and immediately identify objects in a camera’s field of view, overlaying lines of text that describe items in the environment.

"It analyzes the scene and puts tags on everything," said Eugenio Culurciello, an associate professor in Purdue University’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Psychological Sciences.

The concept is called deep learning because it requires layers of neural networks that mimic how the human brain processes information. Internet companies are using deep-learning software, which allows users to search the Web for pictures and video that have been tagged with keywords. Such tagging, however, is not possible for portable devices and home computers.

Nerve fibers in the human brain are arranged into bundles that can be tracked using a technique known as diffusion tensor imaging, which follows the path of water as it moves through brain tissue.
