Louis looked down for a few moments, completely puzzled, before eyeing a faint red mark around the top of his thigh. It was scar tissue, jagged, but long healed over.
It was at that moment Louis knew.

Harry rolls his eyes, pushing up from the seat and stumbling towards Louis. The boat rocks slightly and he has to reach out a hand to balance himself on Louis’ shoulder. His hand is warm against Louis’ bare skin, something musky in the way he smells. Like Old Spice deodorant and sharp vanilla.
Louis hands over the pole, practically shoving it into Harry’s hands.
“Sorry,” Harry murmurs, releasing his grip on Louis so he can take the fishing rod from him. “Haven’t fished in a long time. Since that Fishing Derby, probably.”
Chuckling at that and reveling in the small smile Harry cracks, Louis mindlessly reaches around Harry to help him place his hands in the right place. He lets go when Harry inhales softly.
“Just hold the handle, pull back the rod, release the handle as you toss it out.” Louis mimics the movements as he explains.
Harry nods, watching his hands intently. When he throws the rod over his shoulder, he releases the handle too soon and the line flies out behind them. Louis laughs when he hears it, especially getting an eye shot of Harry’s guilty face and the way he murmurs a small, “Oops.”
“It’s fine,” Louis says, still chuckling softly. He takes the pole from Harry, winding it up quickly before coming to stand around him and handing it back.
He’s sure neither of them are breathing when his chest makes contact with Harry’s back, legs slotting around his. Harry’s body is warm and seems to fit perfectly in the negative space of Louis’ own. Louis has a cliche, passing thought about a missing piece that he very pointedly tries to ignore. He attempts to inconspicuously shift his hips back, reminding himself that this is a rather intimate position to be in. It feels awkwardly belated to step away at this point.
Propelling himself on, he wraps his hands around Harry’s on the rod and guides him through the motions—pressing his thumb down on the handle, pulling the rod over their shoulders with an inhale, and casting it forward, letting it release on an exhale.
The line sales out over the water with a soft whirl. It’s not until Harry turns to meet Louis’ eyes that Louis realizes just how close they are. He can feel Harry’s soft puffs of air against his nose. For a moment, he wonders if he imagines the way Harry’s gaze flicks down to his mouth, the way his lips part slightly, and the quiet inhale of breath.
When Louis leans in, it feels less intentional and more like the pull of a magnet—Harry’s ruddy mouth pillowy and captivating. Louis wants so badly to feel Harry’s lips against his own, he nearly goes hazy with it.
He’s snapped from the moment when Harry turns his head, ducking his chin low so Louis’ mouth nearly bumps his cheek instead of his lips. Feeling all of a sudden jittery, Louis forces himself to step back before he can do anything else he might regret later. Harry nearly drops the pole as Louis pulls his hands away, but he’s quick to fumble around and grab it.
Louis clears his throat, swiping his sweaty palms down thighs. “Good. Pretty easy, yeah?”
Harry nods curtly, gaze fixed on the point where his line disappears into the water. He’s got his bottom lip tucked into his mouth, worrying it between his teeth.
Taking a seat to distance himself even further, Louis swallows thickly recalling how close he’d been to kissing Harry. He’d even wanted to, yet it was still weird to think of Harry in that way. With his deeply carved dimples that Louis is all too aware are hiding away in his cheeks. With the endearing way he twiddles his thumbs and chews on his lip. With his quiet nature that is easily nudged away in exchange for the boisterous personality and terrible jokes hiding beneath the surface.
Yet it felt like only yesterday that he was the ten-year-old next door begging to tag along with his cooler older sister and her friend.

Louis wrapped himself in a towel and then nearly dropped it when he looked at Harry.
He was spread out over the bench reading a lobster print covered journal completely nude.
“The fuck.”
“Hm?” Harry flipped a page.
“Did you forget your swimsuit?”
“Didn’t want tan lines.” He lowered the journal. “Nobody’s around.”
His face lifted into a devious sort of smile. Louis forced his eyes to roll, but he was caught by all that skin, almost blinding in the sun. It was sort of unfair, actually. All that blue and Harry turning golden in the middle right before his eyes.
“Did you at least put on sunscreen?”
Harry hummed and then said, “I forgot. Could you?”
He squinted at him, but Harry just smiled too sweetly at him. Part of him wanted to snark back, toss the bottle at Harry’s dick and watch him scramble for it. But the other part, the louder, more insistent part, could see the appeal.
“Did you want me to feed you grapes while I’m at it?”
“I didn’t pack any, but watermelon would be nice.” Harry’s lips were twitching with laughter.
“I bet it would be,” Louis grumbled to himself. From the tote, he grabbed the sunscreen and the container of watermelon, not because Harry asked, but because he wanted some.
He placed the container on Harry’s hip, causing him to hiss from how cold it was. His knees drew up in reaction and Louis sat sideways in the space they created. The view was something else, Harry effectively spread in his lap, legs long and pretty and his soft cock lying against his thigh with those damn laurels framing his hips. It was unfair how fucking hot he was.
Louis uncapped the sunscreen just as Harry got the lid off the watermelon. He tossed it towards the tote, but missed and it landed on the floor with a pathetic sounding thump.
“Oops,” he said with no remorse in his voice.
With one hand, he grabbed Harry’s right leg by the ankle, pulling it straight so it sat on his shoulder. The view down his leg was so much that he nearly tossed the sunscreen with the lid and went in with his mouth instead. He squiggled a line of sunscreen up Harry’s calf to his mid-thigh and then looked up to see Harry with his bottom lip between his teeth.
“What?”
Harry blinked twice and then let his lip loose, looking away. “Nothing.”
