Beiloune’s removed attack?
Since Okage talk is being more active due to the release of the PS4 port, I think we should talk about something I found about about the JPN version of Okage.
For some reason, Belioune seems to have a second magic attack that isn’t present in the U.S. version. As we all know, his magic attack is Channel.
(as seen here)
HOWEVER, in the Japanese version, he seems to have this magic spell as well:
(apologize for bad quality, this was the only video I could find that had this move)
Notice how it uses the same animation as Channel, but has a different camera angle. Notice as well towards the end of the GIF that the effect is on Beiloune himself most likely meaning this is possibly something akin to Super Shield or the kind.
As for what the spell is called, I don’t have a translation, as whenever I try to find one, it doesn’t seem to translate well into English. What I can say is that this spell is spelled out like this: パミラクル, pronounced in english, it is Pamirakuru.
If any Okage fan knows Japanese better then I do, could you decipher what this removed attack possibly means, and perhaps what it actually does as well?
According to the Japanese strategy guide, Beiloune knows 3 moves: Channel, Repulsor, and Deflector. Repulsor and Deflector are both area effects, meaning that they affect both your characters and the enemies. Repulsor cuts all physical attack damage in half, while Deflector cuts all magic damage in half. Both are moves that Linda can learn. In this particular recording, he is using Repulsor.
It’s unclear if these moves were taken out of Beiloune’s move pool in the English release, or if Beiloune is just more attack-heavy in the English release and just chooses not to use them. The Japanese strategy guide explains a programming in the game called Battle Tension, where enemies in the game have different personalities that dictate how they behave in battle. When their tension is high, they use more attack-based moves. When their tension is low, they use more defense-based moves. One line in the guide reads (translated): “If you lower the tension of the ghost to make it defensive, they may use techniques that you can't usually see.“ You can lower the tension of an enemy by using Epros’s Cringe and Cower spells.
