In Luigi's Mansion, picking up an item with precise timing to activate an E. Gadd call at the same time will cause Luigi to keep holding the item during the call. While this more commonly happens with gems, it can be done with any item that has a separate animation of Luigi picking it up, such as the elemental medals.

As seen in the footage, the item will continue emitting particles even as Luigi is holding it, with the Ice Medal exuding frozen air.
