I’m 38 years old. I grew up with gay parents and I’m also gay. My father died of AIDS. I was once told at the age of 6 that my dads should burn in hell for their abomination and that I would be better off in an orphanage. I had to get a petition signed in high school and present it to the principal in order to take a girl to a dance as my date. I remember Matthew Shepard being murdered. I remember the AIDS quilt being made. I remember when gay people on film were nothing but either punchlines or tragedy. I remember when Will & Grace premiered, when Ellen came out. I remember sitting in front of my television weeping the day Freddie Mercury died. 

And I had hoped, I had believed, that real change had been made since I grew up in the 80′s and 90′s, that things were different now. I believed that a gay man who grew up in the same period I did would never mock his own community, would never squander the opportunity to normalise lgbtq romance on a major television show. That’s what I’m in mourning for right now. My own belief that things have changed, that the world is kinder to lgbtq people. So don’t tell me it doesn’t matter, don’t tell me, oh that’s not the story they were telling. Well, it goddamn should have been.

If there is something fans seem upset about with this episode it’s that there’s no resolving scene with Molly after that very effective devastating call to her while she’s in the kitchen. Did you consider doing one? Is it fair to leave that like that? But that’s not how we leave her. People need to learn to face their televisions, we see her later on–

We see her skipping into the room but– She gets over it! Surely at a certain point you have to figure out that after Sherlock escapes tells her, “I’m really sorry about that, it was a code, I thought your flat was about to blow up.” And she says, “Oh well that’s okay then, you bastard.” And then they go back to normal, that’s what people do. I can’t see why you’d have to play that out. She forgives him, of course, and our newly grown-up Sherlock is more careful with her feelings in the future. In the end of that scene, she’s a bit wounded by it all, but he’s absolutely devastated. She smashes up the coffin, he’s in pieces, he’s more upset than she is, and that’s a huge step in Sherlock’s development. The question is: Did Sherlock survive that scene? She probably had a drink and went and shagged someone, I dunno. Molly was fine.

don’t get me wrong i don’t believe that the gay subtext (and text) was unintentional or an accident or anything like that but i mean apparently mofftiss didn’t see what i saw which was the most beautiful love story of all time that helped me through 2 extremely difficult years, kept me going during the darkest of times, inspired me to start writing in a language that is not my first, helped me figure out my own identity and made my cry tears of happiness over fanfic in bed at 3 in the morning. i saw it and if they didn’t see it - their fucking loss and not my problem
