While I don't think Taylor had any prior knowledge of the plot of "Happiest Season", I like to imagine "'Tis the Damn Season" is from Riley's perspective mulling over if she wants to get with Abby.

Even the title feels like something Riley would say, and hints at the complicated feelings queer people have toward the holidays. The holidays are a nice break from the harsh winter and can be a great time to lean into camp, however, holidays are also a reminder of all the things that society keeps gatekeeping from LGBTQIA+ people like family and expressions of faith. These things are often weaponized against us to justify persecution. Additionally, for many queer people, the holidays can be a time we feel shoved back into the closet and resisting that can cost connections with our families.
