Peter grumbled something to himself about befriending strong women like his mother, and mustered up the courage. He took a few steps back, and ran at the gap full force, launching himself over it. There was a frightening moment of weightlessness as he passed the gap, but then he was landing on all fours, safe and quite far from the edge.

Peter felt the surge of adrenaline hit his brain, and popped on his feet with a cry. “YEAH!” Jenny came across his field of vision, and he quickly put himself back together, “That was surprisingly…. invigorating.” he ended lamely.

Jenny laughed loudly at his exclamation. It was amusing and wonderful to see him like this. Free and full of life almost. “Oh no you don’t.” she muttered when he corrected himself, that boring toe leaving his mouth. “Listen here, mister Peter Petrelli. Those kids don’t want someone lame and boring to be in charge of their future. Sure they want to learn about their abilities, but that doesn’t mean you have to be all macho business man to get it done.”

The brunette crossed her arms and then without warning, punched him in the side of the arm before jumping over to the next building roof. “Come on. We’ve got things to do. Don’t forget about that skinny dipping in the frozen lake. That’s the best part.”

“Really!” Meredith echoed. She brought her hands to her mouth and squealed, as Jenny read the paper for herself. It somehow solidified that the document was real, that this was actually happened.

Meredith put her hands on top of Jenny’s, “okay, no, no, that’s for when these kids become teenagers, okay? You’re going to be great, okay? I promise you will be.”

Jenny smiled widely at Meredith, her cheeks flushing slightly. “Okay, okay. I’ll try not to think about that until later, but I can’t help it. I don’t want to be a parent like mine were. I want them to have a better chance than we did growing up.”

She took a deep breath, looking back at the paperwork and reading over it again. It was so surreal and almost unbelievable. They were going to be parents. “I’m kinda scared.”

“Just because you live somewhere, does not mean you actually own it. Living someplace and owning it are two different things entirely.” He scoffed. “At any rate I’m not here to steal your precious forest or bandy technicalities back and forth.” He frowned, “So why don’t you just show yourself and talk to me like a human being?”

“If you’re really interested in simply getting rid of me rather than gloating over my situation, you may find things will go a little faster if you do.”

“Actually, I have the deeds to this half of the woods, mister. So yes, I own this property. Thanks.” she retorted, rolling her eyes at him. “Fine, fine. Whatever, but just know that if you try anything, I will kill you. Fast. You’ll never see it coming. Literally.” Jenny replied, suddenly making herself visible to him.

“Now stop your whining, old man.”

“I live in this forest and therefore have monopoly over it.” she retorted, giving him a dirty look that he couldn’t actually see. “And don’t be an ass. Just tell me who you are and get out.”

Meredith flipped through their mail, an entire stack of envelopes, mostly junk mail that had accumulated between her and Jenny from different organizations over the years. She was about to throw the rest of it into the recycle bin, when one hopeful logo stood out to her.

Looking for Jenny in the living room, Meredith was sparkling (literally) with excitement, holding out the letter. Plopping beside Jenny, she showed her wife the envelope, and letter. “They accepted us! I mean, this is the first step, but now we can be foster parents!” Meredith gushed.

Jenny looked up as Mere sat down beside her, brows furrowing together in confusion for a second. Until she registered what Meredith had said. “Really?!” Her face brightened up in excitement as she took the paper and read it for herself.

If she could have literally sparkled like her wife, Jenny would have been. The whole room would’ve been ten times brighter. “Oh god. Now I’m kinda nervous. What if I’m a bad mom?!”
