@invizzies
It's Courtney, bitch.
His eyes drop to the not so subtle "fuck you" before fixating back on hers. His mask of indifference and quiet confidence held throughout and he placed his elbows on the desk to lean closer. "Very simple concept, so try to keep up. You have the powers of invisibility, a power that is greatly appreciated in the field of finding information and that's my job, as a Journalist I find that power incredibly useful for extracting information".
He then leans back, pulling his arms into his lap, taking a relaxed stance. "In return for your services I can provide direct support, such as shelter or supplies, or indirect support, such as misinformation on your whereabouts".
Doubts she would accept direct support, for now, this would be an alliance built on nothing, Viktor knows if he is to get what he is really after, he needs to build trust... both of them had a metaphorical knife they could plunge into each others back, the real question was how much they could get from one an other before they chose to take the plunge.
Visi's eyes cast themselves over the man. The posturing and the sweet deals. She knows the type and she doesn't bother for even one second thinking that he isn't also aware of that. This far into the game, playing stupid could be more a detriment than a boon.
She tries, tries hard not to come off like she's nervous. She is though, even if it only shows itself in a subtle tilt of her head, a glance over the shoulder. Hard not to feel like the hair isn't standing up on the back of her neck. "I had no idea I had such a gentleman for an admirer. Not often I get the wine and dine treatment. The usual suspects tend to air more on the bloodthirsty and fucked up nutcase side of things."
The jury is still out on the mental situation for this one.
Either way, her options are limited. "Well mister journalist, I would be lying if I said you didn't have my attention. But you'll have to forgive me, I have a three-date rule before I jump into bed with someone. So…"
She swallows the lump down her throat, the anxiety that she is about to make another critical mistake. The same way she did with Shroud. But she steels her nerves because she'd have to be a complete moron to not understand the push and pull. She needs a landing. This could be as good as it gets. As long as she minds her back and keeps the mask and a knife close, she should be fine.
"Why don't you tell me a little bit more about the type of information you want? I have to assume a man of your… integrity, wants more than some secret pics of celebrities fucking."
@everymanhero isn't quite keen on the 100-foot-club.
Annnnd fuckin' strike.
Because as much as she rushes to land what she thinks is a completely smooth and timeless transition, it is hard not to feel the undeserved flinch from inside at the mention of the dreaded Ex—
She's waiting in the silence when she finishes, the pen clattering on the desk seems to fit perfect with the wide miss of the situation. His silence isn't all that much of a fucking comfort either.
Invisigal scoffs when he looks back at her asking, what in her mind, is a pretty obvious thing. Well if it wasn't so obvious then why should she act like it is?
"A date? Pretty sure I was just asking you if you wanted to enter the hundred-foot-club or whatever." Her eyes slide upward and her chin follows, not quite willing to meet his gaze. "Sounds like you may have already been inducted though."
Oh fuck! No, that was waaaaaay to bitchy wasn't it? And a bit too honest. Pivot!
"I mean, getting front row seats to you crying like a baby when you see The Notebook is just as good to me so..."
nothing and no one is preventing her having it back ; silly little creature . is she afraid of what might happen if she dares reaching into his space ? tsk ━━━ fair enough ! her carton is propped up against the curb. he offers to light the new stick between her fingers with a show of his zippo , the uplift of his chin , flick of his brows . “ are you curious about hell ? i’ve been there before . ”
Oh how kind. If kindness was acting with the same knowing aggression that came with a predator testing boundaries. Nevertheless she leans forward, cigarette captured tight between index and middle as she guided the unlit end to the open flame.
Damn. She really needed to get herself one of those Zippos.
Air is held in her lungs, just short of the period of stagnation that would cause her powers to reach activation. The smoke burns her throat but she hardly even noticed it. "Not bad." Her wrist tilted giving her all the room to inspect the fine light.
Even the rich boy cigarettes have a certain quality to them. Almost like you aren't experiencing them at all. Funny how that works.
Then her face scrunched, casting a look his way that was entirely judgmental. "Dude... what the fuck? You've been to hell?" Her head shook in disbelief, caught between accepting it for what it is and thinking for certain this guy was a nut job. "What, did you piss of Mal and she toss you there or something? Heh, please tell me it is actually brimstone and torture. I'll actually be a bit disappointed if it's like meta and shit. Sitting in a waiting line forever sounds like it's worse than hell."
Dale was lost between the insanity of the entire situation and the not-at-all subtle implication that Visi was absolutely over the moon over the fact that he was scrambling.
Visi had always been hard to read, she was clearly living it up but whether that was because she knew he was cooked or that she was genuinely pleased to meet another fan of (an admittedly pretty small time) band was impossible to tell.
Did she know? She HAD to. But... How?
If she DID know, certainly waving it in his face like this was her style... But he would've expected witnesses. Maybe the Z-Team was hiding in the corner to film the exchange. But on the off chance she didn't... He couldn't afford to out himself like that. Not to Visi at least.
So... Dale would have to do what he did best.
Bullshit his way out of problems.
"Yeah, I guess I am. The Cavaliers, huh? Didn't have you pegged for the Rock and Roll type. They were pretty old-school."
Old fashioned. Ha. It was sex, drugs, and rock and roll for a reason. Just thinking about it was gonna give him a hangover.
"That piece was always a favorite of theirs, you know. One of the... Half dozen originals they did. Clancy wrote that one. The Irish bassist? You probably knew that though."
White popped collar, silver chains and bleach blonde hair... though maybe he could distract her with some deep cuts.
"You know he was actually a blonde? He just bleached it to try and blend in more with the look."
She huffed, bending back, a palm so dramatically placed over her chest. "Daniel! Moi? I like to think I can keep my ear to the ground with music." She scoffed regaining her previously wound up posture. "Honestly dude, that's a little insulting. I mean I know Prism and Mal love their music and all but I'm no slouch."
She felt a little smug about that. Mostly because she felt confidently right that she had the music taste to have. And that meant that… yeah… The Cavaliers, as much as it pained her to admit it, were pretty cool. But she was beyond the starstruck stage. Hard to do when you spend the last month or so giving the guy shit almost every day.
Visi's hand dexterously drew forth her phone with a flick of her wrist, a thumb slid the song tile to minimization while the Band's front running image took center stage on the screen. An eyebrow cocked itself as she took note. One of their favorites.
So, by assumption his favorite.
"Bleach blond is definitely a choice…" Not a choice she would make, but guess there was a need to roll with the times. Wasn't that what she was doing in the end. Ahem, Invisigal. "He makes it work. I didn't even notice." The decision was made with a shrug.
Then her eyes shifted back to Dale. "Ever seen them in concert? I had to cry about the fact last night that I'll never get the chance." Partly true. She had issues even recalling the last time she went to a concert. Definitely never had legally but wasn't it in the spirit of rock to avoid paying the man by any means necessary?
Satoru stuck his tongue out, truly a childish behavior befitting his appearance. "SDN probably is violating several labor laws by hiring me but I bet it hurts to know a kid gets paid the same as you." It was said in a flat tone, although the intent was indeed playful. Somehow this felt like he was right back working for Oasi Pizzi, talking to his younger coworker Airi, and hearing her jokes right before going out on a delivery.
"Kids like winning games. That means I have to win, if it's a game." Never particularly competitive himself, in fact he would let someone win just because he felt bad for almost winning if they 'put more effort' in. Satoru's own steps had halted with hers, only taking steps towards her once Visi lifted up her wrist to check the time. Memorizing it for himself for later, so he'd have the exact time in his head. Only; once Visi started up again he did as well. Preserving his energy for later, for now he was in a light jog behind her. His walking speed certain didn't keep up with her own pace, so he had to make up for it in a light job.
"Deal, but instead if I win and you teach me, for real this time. I don't need the money." The boy's acceptance was almost immediate, even with the counter condition. He wouldn't shy away from this game, bet, he'd started. There was probably something in the employee handbook about no betting during office hours, but he certainly didn't care. Especially not now, this was a personal matter he had to settle. The boy did, actually, need his money. He was practically homeless, whatever money he got went to food and whatever savings account SDN opened for him, as he had no bank... or any other documents for that matter. Not proving a living space as Satoru insisted he had somewhere to stay, when he certainly didn't.
Easily riled up, Satoru certain took any bait provided to him by Visi. The mouse was certainly an easy catch by the cat, although it flailed around. His childlike appearance didn't end there it, for some reason, affected his actions and mannerisms. He was already quick to anger, now it felt much less controlled. Face flushed in embarrassment, not so much rage, while he was riled up- it wasn't to that extent. "I got money, paying up isn't an issue. Besides, if that's enough for a treat, then you'd be a cheap date." It wasn't intended as rude, but certainly came out that way. Tone pointed, the anger slipping through to his words as he spoke, almost unfiltered. "I'm not even interested in dating." That was spoken from experience, not that Visi would know of course. Satoru truly was uninterested in romance, if the right person came along he wouldn't be opposed.. but as an adult it never interested him.
The earpiece's sudden interruption from Robert, well, Satoru instinctively ripped it out from his ear, gripping it in his hand. Perhaps an over reaction, but having never worn an earpiece for work and already being a bit sensitive to stimuli with his built up frustrations, it was going to be an adjustment. He'd probably apologize at some point, he did respect Robert. A light scolding later would be fine, besides Visi removed hers as well. Slowly, he put it back into his ear, after he'd adjusted the volume, to hear Robert still talking. Satoru made an uncomfortable expression as he willfully ignored the words of his dispatcher.
"No problem, I'll even pay the second we get back, if I fail. If you back out of actually training me, ya owe me double your original offer, so $80." Internally he was thinking about routes, trying to plan as best he could the best way to grab the mail and deliver it within the specified timeframe. Years of experience delivering pizza's helped him, he may not know the city but deliveries? That was his job, well, in the past. No moped, no city knowledge, but experience and an arguably better physical condition. He'd make do, or attempt to.
Hmm, probably not best to test his luck with poking and prodding. At least knowingly, he actually had to get along with the people he was going to work with. The urge to prod absolutely nagging him in the back of his head however. So he did the next best thing he could think of, slapping his own cheeks lightly to invigorate himself and get his mind back on track. The action dissipated his own bubbling anger thankfully enough. "Let's get this shit done, we're wasting time." So, Satoru started to make larger strides being careful to not exert too much energy, but just enough to gain some distance.
Its hard not to be at least a little outwardly amused by the whole thing, really. Invisigal hides the scoff within a smirk. She likes the attitude, as she turns on a cocked leg, eyeing her day's entertainment with all the ferocity of a Gal spending her last five bucks on a movie. No, perhaps even more so with the twinkle in her eyes when she watches the words hit just right.
The boy's attitude, the way he gripped and yanked the earpiece right along with her. She has gotten under his skin. Have to take pride in her work when she could and what fun was there if she can't even make the down time interesting.
"Okay, okay!" She agrees on a quick breath already far beyond such things. Because really, what sort of ropes was anyone expecting her to know? Not like anyone thinks she's a hero worth any sort of damn. "If you can manage to prove me wrong and prove you can handle something like this in an okay-ish way. I promise that I'll take you under the Invisigal wing." Palms on knees she leans in with a smile that would hardly reassure anyone, too much self-indulgence. "Heh, maybe you'll be a proof of concept that I need to start an Invisigal training program."
Wouldn't that be the day? Yeah she'd fucking pay to see the look on Robert or Blazer's face if they saw her taking up a teaching role at the company.
She watches the boy psyche himself up, following his strides beyond her with a small tilt to her head. In a way, kid or not, murderer or not. Hard not to see that at least on some level Satoru seems to fit in just fine with the group. Oh, it was probably driving Robert crazy with worry. Eh, it didn't matter to her.
Everyone pays for who they used to be. The kid would too, if he wasn't already.
Invisigal straightens her back then flicks her wrist up to glance at her watch. "Pushy, pushy! Okay. We like go-getters here." She tracks the second hand with sharp eyes waiting for the minute to turn over. "Remember. A minute over and I expect payment. Annnnnnd-" Caramel eyes slid to the boy's visage already picking up speed. How rambunctious! "Go!" She shouts though she's already watching him fade off into the horizon line. She curls her hand, taps her toes and checks her nails while splitting off down another alleyway.
She's gonna take her sweet time about it too. She knew all the shortcuts after all. She'll be waiting right at the drop off location with bated breath.
//No way around it just need to write and re-find the voice. And sort out the icon situation here.
You know I never meant to cut you off Got phantom feelings I can never stop Stranger things to worry 'bout I know But I'm so scared that I'll end up I'll end up, I'll end up alone I can't see myself in the mirror Does that mean I'm not really here? I'm losin' touch with everything I know And I'm so scared that I'll end up I'll end up, I'll end up alone You know I'm like a ghost Sometimes I have to fade And it haunts me that I have to be this way You say it's gone cold I say I'll do better But I always seem to disappear again

Who the fuck is taking these pictures?
I see red My blood is boiling and it shows When all you are is a weapon You shoot 'em down 'til you end up alone I seem fine But I can't take the highs and the lows All I am is a weapon I shoot 'em down 'til I end up alone
The shadows had been watching her since last nights little visit, Invisigal wasn't the only phantom in the room. Both of them had their own methods of course. But in this room he was performing a different art, he had broken into her little hide out, just to let her know he could find her. Taking the padlock was unnecessary, he did so to send a message, every single action he made was to articulate todays meeting.
His eyes move first, lock onto hers and then a subtle twist of his head to face her proper. His whole body relaxed, this too was for show, if he appeared relaxed, then so should she... maybe. He sat behind a dark stained desk with a single overhead lamplight over him, perfectly illuminating his features ,casting shadows over the rest of the room. The focus should be on him, it was here he would not hide and in fact, it was here he could offer himself as a friend... for the right price of course.
"Invisigal... you received my message" He says with all the familiarity of a true Charlton, offering a friendly smile and gesturing to the chair in front of him, knowing full well she would probably be faster to jump out a window than take the seat, it didn't matter, he had to appear friendly regardless.
"It is good to finally see you, I was beginning to worry you would continue to hide away... which is a shame, considering you've proven yourself to be quite... useful".
A dark gaze casts itself along what little of the interior she could see without fully taking the invitation into the cage. This wolf was quite used to the lead by now. She knows better. Or so she tells herself.
Yet from first glance there are no moving shadows, no odd placement of furniture, and no immediate threat looming. The mask will stay on though. If she needs to run, she will. If she needs to vanish, that was as simple as closing her throat.
So, she takes a step inward, eyes narrowing with the words spoken. Wasn’t hard to know how a co-star was delivering lines off script when you knew it front to back. And she fucking hates how everyone delivers the same line in different ways.
Brown eyes dart to the chair. She doesn’t take it. In fact, her gloved hands grasp the back and move it out of the way entirely so she could stand tall, staring down at him. The light above made it feel like an interrogation, but Invisigal still wasn’t sure who was taking what role in the scene. She only knows how the flare of frustration within her spawns from the prickle she feels upon hearing that fucking word again though.
Useful.
The last fucker who said that was six feet under. Should she make it a habit?
“Well, I wouldn’t want to disappoint a fan.” It slides from her throat like a hiss. The glare is unmistakable, but it cools, curiosity and plain desperation get the better of her. If she was going to get tailed by someone new, then it’d be best to know just what sort of devil was trying to get into bed with her now.
“I have to say. I’m sort of surprised I still have any fans, given my reputation for how hard I am to work with.” Her middle finger drags itself along the edge of the desk before stopping upright like the fucking Excalibur of fuck yous. “It makes a girl curious, even feel special. Mind filling me in on just how useful I am to you?”
She had a few ideas. The mask she stowed and hid away before coming here being the most likely. What she could do, coming in a pretty close second. Everyone liked to have a ghost in the room for posterity after all. And she was feeling just desperate enough to hear the excuse for why.
A mental roll-a-dex of whom she'd have to call, took up most of Blonde Blazer's headspace, names and faces of 'people' she'd have to grab before they filmed tonight's late night news coverage. Knew she still had to convince Invisigal to go through with a public apology at least to the jewelry store owners. One step at a time though.
No one liked humble pie, but Blazer was no stranger to the taste. If Invisigal was serious about being a hero, she'd have to get used to choking it down too. A learning experience. There we go, positive spin like always.
"I have no idea what a latte size has to do with this, but I'm sure the quote is inspirational... in some circles." No remarks to be had about being called 'bitch' in the affectionate.
Those diamonds were gorgeous, she was only human after all. Maybe some magpie thrown in there too since blue eyes did glimmer along with the sparkling diamonds.
Why did such a 'small mom and pop's' jewelry store have such a nice and expensive piece? Engagement rings, understandable. A few tennis bracelets or fancy watches, sure. This necklace looked almost like it belonged to some deposed royal family.
Not the time to think about that...
"I'm glad you thought about me, but..." Blazer stared at the pretty dew-drop sized diamonds, how the delicate silver netting holding it together looked, then abruptly turned her head, as if openly gazing at it was akin to stealing.
"Even if you bought it out right, I couldn't accept it. Company policy. I can't accept gifts over a certain amount. None of us can" a shrug of her shoulders, "Bit like cops in that respect. It'd be considered bribery or at the very least conflict of interest."
It is very pretty though...
"Now, about those news interviews I did. We can contact the jewelry store first. We'll let them know you had the necklace, honest mistake...hopefully they won't press charges."
Holy. Shit.
Visi still felt herself reeling from the absurdity of referring to a famous pop star as something you’d pick up from Starbucks. Enough in the know to jump on the Grande but not enough to pick the Ariana from a line up?
It was baffling. Visi was fucking baffled. “There’s just no way you don’t know who Ariana Grande is! She’s like a famous superhero!” Visi stopped herself, caramel eyes rolling along her lids before landing back on Blazer, a consensus reached. “—Or villain. I guess it depends on your perspective.”
It’s clear, however, Blazer was not paying any attention to what the ex-villainess had to say. She, like the good girl scout, was probably thinking about the mess that she was being forced to clean up.
Ugh. Just her luck. A girl can’t even do something nice these days. Yeah, in hindsight Invisigal probably should have guessed that a Hero wouldn’t like a gift if it was stolen. No matter how much it wouldn’t be missed outside of some fucker’s spreadsheet.
Visi just has to shrug though. She can’t defend herself, no point in trying. At this point it was just… conversation. “That’s why I gave it to you after I clocked out.” This is delivered with all the glamor of her brand of sarcasm only missing the bratty duh placed right at the end.
But the attitude left her with the next sigh. “Alright, alright. Look, I get it. I’ll-“ The pause was brief but long enough for her eyes to train back towards the Blonde, deflated. “I’ll say sorry to some rich old guys for you. Just tell them you had no idea. It was all me.” This is true, even if it felt like she was signing her own death warrant with all the attention she was getting. “And… I’ll find a better way to give you gifts from now on.”
Dead small prey was probably off the table too huh, based on how everyone seemed to act over some stupid diamond lost in a robbery. Tch. Bet the insurance policy was paying nicely too. Fuckin’ crooks.
“So…” Visi forced her eyes away again, needing to keep some level of dignity here. Refolding herself in the arms of her own comfort she focuses her gaze to the corner of the other’s desk and holds that… for as long as her attention span would allow. “Who do I need to beg and plead to first for ya?”
@everymanhero - Stapler in your pocket?
Pause.
Caramel eyes bounce between the stapler and his face, eyes growing wider, but just ever so momentarily. Because with the next, her mouth is wide. A laugh, straight from the belly at that, shakes her core.
“Dude, you actually had a stapler in your pocket?” A careful finger runs just under her right eye, swiping away a single tear of enjoyment without smudging the makeup. “Aren’t you supposed to like start at the pocket protector first? Pfft, Nerd.”
Is there a way to insult someone endearingly? She sees it all the time in movies and on TV. People didn’t tend to take her comments as jokes though, most of the time anyway. What was up with that?
“Oh, oh! Wait, wait!” Her body lurches forward in a step, hand placed on his shoulder, leaning in real close like they had their own secret club. They did. Or she so hopes.
“What if… we do steal his Stapler though. The perfect crime yeah? He’ll, like, never see it coming.” Plus, in her own way, maybe just maybe she could assist her poor little dispatcher in returning the favor of the previously set up bit made at his expense. Nothing got the message across like showing you aren’t above retaliation!
Mmmmm, on second thought, as she turns over the plan in her own head, she’s less convinced it won’t just cause an escalation. But damn everyone, if a girl can’t commit. Shit! Today was boring as fuck anyway! “I could do it reeaaaal quick on break if you want.”
@everymanhero - Boner Zoner?
A sly smile slithers up one side of her face, quite proud of herself for that particular nickname. The stupid jackass earned it. No one takes him seriously anyway.
She tries not to convey too much admittance when she tilts her head back towards her dispatcher but he was spot on in seeing through her. At least about this. And it's more fun to be in on it, isn't it?
"That would be highly inappropriate, Robert. Especially since we're still clocked in. But since you brought it up..." Leading with her shoulder, Visi slithers into a proximity a little too past professional. If that is even a thing in this fucking place.
"You can whisper what you think of me in my ear. Off the record." Caramel eyes sharpen, devious and quite frankly, a bit famished. "Your secret is safe with me."
And she is sorry that she is lying.
