And there we go, all caught up. I finished all and haven;t heard yet what the prizes are - anyone? It was fun and I found some new toys and feel like I'm keeping current.

Thing 23: Evaluation
Go back to your thoughts/ideas about mobile devices and apps. Has anything changed as a result of this experience?
I don't thing anything has changed. I got a new hybrid laptop at Christmas (Windows-based, touch screen, but with a keyboard). What I didn't realize about the Windows based machine is that it doesn't play well with Apple or Android, so doing apps for 23Things was difficult. I ended up using my android phone for most, and my desk computer at work for some.
What were your favorite Things and discoveries?
I like creating and artistic things, as well as useful things. Quickoffice has been useful. Various slideshow options have been fun, and I had my kids use them for school work. Here's emaze

How did you connect with others doing the 23 Mobile Things?
I really enjoyed following a variety of both library and non library people on tumblr. I will keep up my tumblr because I would miss posts by certain people.
Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I think these programs and fun for learning and very useful to library-specific work.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or content?
I think you did a great job of making such a broad topic manageable. However, I know there are people in my building who were trying to go through it, but they were borrowing someone else's device and it became cumbersome to the point of great difficulty.
If we offered a another 23 Things program like this in the future would you participate?
Yes, always.
How would you describe your learning experience in one word or in one sentence, so we could use your words to promote 23 Things learning activities to others?
Fun and useful learning to keep current.
Thing 22: Discovering Apps
I'm trying Quixey. It seems easy, and pulls up a nice list. I found access to the American Beekeeping Journal, so I can read regular articles about my beekeeping. I'm also planning my daughter's graduation party, and found Event Planner, which looks like it will do well to organize my last week of work for the party!
I also tried out Droid of the Day. I like that it suggests an app each day, and you can peruse all the previous apps. It gives me ideas for things I never would have thought of. For instance, Lingua.ly, an app that helps you collect new words, language training and vocabulary. But the app also lets you search by popular, by category, by name. I will probably use this app often.
Thing 21: Free-for-All
OK, one app. Hmmm. Here's one I use several times a week
I text my phone from someone else's and my phone wakes up and rings!

Thing 20: Games
Word Master. OK, thanks. I was a Scramble free addict, but I can see Scramble with have some serious competition. I don't have to wait for a friend to make the next move, I can just waste ALL the time I have waiting to pick up my kids from things.
Word Collapse.
Again. Ugh. Can't stop. LOVE word games. Addictive. It's like tetris, but with letters. Uff da.
Thing 19: Hobbies
Spotify is great. I love music, and I love variety. I like to listen to other people's playlists. I like creating one out of sound-a-likes. It's easy, it's social, it's music.
I am a brand new beekeeper. Actually. There are 10,000 bees out in my new hive. I found apps for helping me keep track of my hive.
Beginner Beekeeping/Hiveapp is helping me out!
I'm not a huge fan of shopping, but I DO like a bargain. The other day when I was in search of specific items for my daughter's grad party, I downloaded this app on the fly and got deals at Michaels Craft and at dsw shoes, and Old Navy. Pretty slick. The cashier just scanned my phone, instant money off!
Thing 18: Education
I've been following this on tumblr, and I just love it. I'm an archivist at heart (and hope to be again in employment) and would love to curate something like this.
I tried Quizlet a few months ago with my daughter in high school. She needed flash cards to study for a science class. It worked pretty well, and was kind of fun. Quizlet makes virtual flash cards and you can flip through them quickly, without losing the stack all over the floor!
I had my daughter use the Khan Academy to clarify some math concepts. It really helped explain specific math things in a friendly way, which helped her really "get it".
Thing 17: Connecting to Community
MN Museums. This was cool. I didn't realize there were so many little museums in little towns in MN. What I like about the app is that you can mark a museum as "Visited", you can get directions, or add it to an itinerary. You can also add photos, or peruse the museum's website. I will use this app, and direct library patrons to do so as well.
I used this app last year at the state fair. It was fun and led us to specific foods or displays that we wanted to see. I don't think it's a necessary app, but, like I said, it was fun.
I use the MPR radio app once in a while if I'm not in my car. Or if I've been listening to something in my car, but then go in the house, I can keep listening with my phone.
I also tried a more local app, Rochester Now. It wasn't bad - it had coupons, events, blogs, news. I will definitely direct patrons to use this.
U.I. Center for the Book uicb graduate student Maggie Heineman has been researching scaleboard bindings and put together this group to study from our early American schoolbooks. The ones seen above range from the 1790s to the 1820s.
"Scaleboard ( scabbard )
The thin wooden boards, which are only slightly thicker than modern pasteboard, made of oak, maple, or birch wood, and used by bookbinders in Colonial America in lieu of paper boards, principally because of their availability and ease of use. It was used, even after paper became generally available, for the cheaper sort of work well into the 19th century. Scaleboard is not to be compared with the pasteboard of earlier times, which was sometimes very thick.” (Definition source)
Thing 16: Audio
I tried Soundcloud. It was easy to download and use on my phone. I also noticed Soundcloud posts on tumblr, so I wanted to give it a try. It's very much a social format for sharing music. I'm a music nerd, so have been using things like Pandora, Grooveshark and Spotify since each has been around. It's also fun to be able to record.
