Today I discovered that River is allergic to fern spores.
Look what I found! Collie lamp!
I'm going to alter the face a bit to make the muzzle more accurate (it's too short and boxy, it needs a proper collie snoot) and fix the undershot lower jaw, and then repaint it to look like River.
When that will be though, I don't know. Lol.
Almost forgot.
When I was clipping Kii River thought it would be a good idea to lay in all her fur and start munching on it.
It looks so bad (and it is), but even increasing sedation did not do much to curb her nasty attitude (and I value my life).
For her own health, it had to be done.
The rain wasn't bad, but walking through miles of near chest height ferns absolutely soaked me. It was nice when the forest opened up and we could walk on semi-dry ground for a little bit.
I tried getting GoPro footage but River's harness kept sliding around making everything crooked (I think due to everything being soaked), and all the good footage got messed up because I accidentally changed some settings (by the time I realized it we were out of the good, heavy stuff and onto open ground or clear trails, so I just deleted what I had).
We found some cool rocky overhangs and caves, and stumbled upon even more ladder stands people have set up for hunting season. It's looking like all the good spots are being snatched up, but I may have stumbled upon a small area, extremely difficult to get to (especially if you're trying to bring a ladder stand in), and very well hidden, that might work out.
POV: you're a collie hiking through the woods, sniffing out bear shit and eating all the forbidden chocolate jelly beans you can find (without being caught).
Today we went for a two hour hike over some steep terrain, following game trails and exploring the woods.
Your bathtub when you volunteer to wash, de-shed, and clip a family member's double coated senior dog with a badly impacted undercoat.
I feel like a kid playing in the woods, building myself a fort (ground blind). Come hunting season I'll add some pine boughs to it for more cover, but the basic framework is there (even made myself a nice seat with a huge flat rock I found).
River was a good boy and patiently waited while I worked (he did steal a few sticks from me though). We ended up just hanging out there for a half hour or so listening to the sounds of the forest.
Also, can't go on a hike without getting an obligatory River on a rock photo.
Went scouting/hiking early this morning with River. Found a good potential hunting location with lots of deer sign (very heavily traveled paths, old scrapes, and bedding sites). It's up in some steep hills/gorges, but I was easily able to memorize the location and all access points.
Also saw a ton of red trillium growing in/around a swamp. I haven't walked the woods in such a long time. It felt great getting back out there. It certainly beats hiking well marked and maintained trails.
Those with cats with kidney/renal disease, what brand of prescription wet food did your cat/s prefer?
Fredo (15) just had her yearly blood work done and is in the early stages, so the vet suggested switching her over to a prescription diet to slow down progression. My vet office works with mainly Hill's and Royal Canin, but I know Purina has prescription options as well.
I tried some non-prescription options before but Fredo refused to even try them.
Fredo can't eat foods with fish as the primary protein source, as it gives her explosive diarrhea, so gotta stick with poultry, pork, or beef flavors.
At least one of them is paying attention.
