Top tips for Thailand
Are you planning to visit Thailand? You would be amazed by how much the country has to offer. With its delicious dishes, interesting culture and perfect beaches- Iâm sure you wouldnât resist to go. Here are some top tips if youâre ever going to visit Thailand.Â
1.) Watch out for scamsÂ
Be cautious of the smiley looking advertisers convincing you to use their service. You never know what can happen. Whether it's to buy a drink, use taxis or perhaps at the exchange... you can always get scammed. Also, beware of the prices. Many people here intentionally overcharge foreigners.Â
2.) Be mindful of your feet+ donât touch people's headsÂ
Donât be like Gordon Ramsay, who put his feet up near a taxi driver's head. Touching other people's heads, especially older ones is seen as disrespectful to the Thai culture. People think its contemptuous. Also, you must be mindful of your feet since Thai people see it as the least sacred part of the human body. There are many times where you have to take off your shoes, this is normal here.Â
3.) Bring mosquito repellent and sunscreen
The mosquitoes in Thailand are literally EVERYWHERE. Not only they give you the most annoying itches, they are also responsible for carrying dangerous diseases. Prevent yourself from getting sick by bringing some repellent. Another thing to be aware of is the scorching sun, so donât forget to bring sunscreen. Â
4.) Use grab Â
Imagine if it unexpectedly rains and you donât know what to eat. The solution is... grab. Grab is a delivery app where you can order any dish you want. From delicious foreign food to traditional Thai dishes, it is all in one app. The app is just amazing and I'm sure it will come in handy.Â
5.) Be careful while drivingÂ
Drivers in Thailand can be crazy to say the least. Most people donât care about traffic rules and some locals drive super fast. Make sure you drive carefully and always wear helmets.Â
6.) Visit local marketsÂ
If you ever want to experience Thai culture, visit local markets. Local markets are home to vendors selling delicious street food. Prices won't be as expensive as restaurants, so it's definitely something worth considering. Also, donât forget to give Pad Thai a try!Â
7.) Donât ride elephantsÂ
Why should you even ride elephants? It is just cruel and terrible. Elephant riding can cause permanent damage to the elephants. If you donât want to hurt animals, then donât choose to ride them. If you plan to though, one suggestion is donate to animal foundations instead. You would feel so much better.Â
8.) Drink bottled waterÂ
If you ever see 1 baht water refill stations, donât ever use them. The water is simply unsanitary, and you can get sick super easily. Tap water should also be avoided, so bottled water is the best option.Â
9.) Learn how to wai.
'Wai' is simply placing both palms together to show respect to others in Thailand. Whether its to say hello or thank you, you would definitely need to wai. Doing this to older people would mean that you acknowlege their seniority. Locals would be overwhelmingly surprised to see foreigners do that.
