Devin stood off to the side with wide eyes when Elise cured then slammed the water bottle down on the table. At the noise she slightly flinched she knew it was just a knee jerk reaction; it was a reminder of Richard. For years he’d thrown and slammed things even at her, which was part of the reason she still found herself flenching even after his passing. “I mean… I can?” Although she wasn’t sure how well it would actually work. “Okay– let me tell them that you have pink eye and your sick so they’ll give me the questions.” Writing down on a piece of paper next to her name the excuse she planned to use. “Yeah? Why not. I don’t mind reading out loud and it gives me something to do at least. So are you dyslexic or did you never learn to read?” She asked softly as she looked over at Elise. “Sorry I’m not trying to pry. If you don’t feel comfortable talking about it then it’s okay.”Â
Elise shook her head. “No, it’s cool. I’m dyslexic and have adhd, so trying to sit and learn to read in a way that worked for me was basically impossible. I’d just get mad and give up,” she shrugged. “I ask my brother to help me out with the important stuff. But yeah, if they give you the stuff to ask that’d be fucking awesome. I might need to be censored too, unless whatever it is is cool with my swearing.”Â
