Memegang title Ir merupakan impian buat kebanyakan engineer. Mereka yang bergelar Professional Engineer sudah pasti mendapat kedudukan yang istimewa dalam sesuatu syarikat dan dihormati dalam masyarakat.

Namun, masih ramai pelajar serta engineer yang sudah lama bekerja dalam industri sekalipun tetapi masih kabur serta tidak jelas bagaimana cara serta laluan untuk menjadi seorang Professional Engineer.

Berikut adalah contoh soalan beserta jawapan yang kerapkali ditanya berkaitan Professional Engineer:

1. Adakah possible untuk dapat title Ir. jika saya dari graduan Sains

Fizik dsb. dan bukan dari Engineering?

Jawapan:

– Mesti berdaftar as Graduate Engineer dengan BEM, di mana syarat asas ialah mesti mempunyai degree kejuruteraan yang diiktiraf

– BEM akan tengok degree scroll kita (serta akan make sure course di

Uni kita itu accredited oleh EAC) & borang application, kemudian

BEM akan determine disiplin mana

– Dari situ, from Graduate Engineer untuk menjadi Ir., BEM akan

berpandukan disiplin kita untuk proceed ke langkah seterusnya

– Keputusan akhir adalah pada bidang kuasa BEM. Boleh rujuk

mereka sekiranya ada apa-apa persoalan

2. Saya grad dalam bidang lain, tetapi pengalaman ke arah

bidang lain. Boleh apply Ir.?

Jawapan:

– Boleh buat Ir. Tetapi pengalaman mesti ikut bidang yang

didaftarkan

– Cuba kaitkan mana-mana aspek pengalaman anda dengan

disiplin anda

– Perlu buat report based on bidang yang anda didaftarkan

dengan BEM

3. Saya belajar course Bachelor in Engineering Technology. Boleh apply Ir.?

Jawapan:

– Boleh daftar dengan BEM as Engineering Technologist

– Kena tambah. Kerana degree bukan pure engineering

– Boleh rujuk peruntukan subjek-subjek dengan BEM (bridging)

– BEM akan merujuk kepada transkrip peperiksaan anda untuk pendaftaran Graduate Engineer.

4. Dalam kes saya, saya dalam disiplin Chemical Engineering dan

sedang bekerja di Universiti Swasta di Perak. Ada pandangan?

Jawapan:

– Kalau di Universiti sebagai pensyarah, boleh guna jalan

Academic.

– Minima 3 tahun mengajar, termasuk minima 1 tahun

attachment dalam industri.

5. Selalu turun site visit untuk solve certain site problem, witness

test dekat site, attend site meeting, check method statement,

check shop drawing. Boleh dikira site experience?

Jawapan:

– Boleh. Site experience bukan sekadar attend meeting sematamata. Perlu tunjukkan yang anda demonstrate engineering

principles, mampu menyelesaikan masalah di tapak.

6. Mana-mana individu yang nak bekerja atau bagi servis dalam

bidang kejuruteraan, wajibkah berdaftar dengan BEM?

Jawapan:

– Berdasarkan REA, wajib

– Sepatutnya tidak boleh mana-mana majikan sewenangwenangnya memberikan title “Jurutera”, kerana pekerjaan

jurutera melibatkan judgement. Penting untuk memelihara

profesion.

– Proses yang Panjang untuk melahirkan jurutera.

– Sekiranya ada kes yang tidak berdaftar, boleh membuat aduan

menerusi BEM

7. Saya sekarang bekerja di bahagian facility maintenance department.

Disiplin Elektrikal, kerja campur elektrik & mekanikal, dan lebih kepada

bidang energy management. Bagaimana ke arah IR?

Jawapan:

– Boleh ceburi kerja-kerja Elektrikal

– Assist Visiting Engineer untuk periksa pepasangan elektrik

– Terlibat secara aktif dalam kerja-kerja senggaraan atau naiktaraf

pepasangan elektrik

– Mereka bentuk (pengiraan, simulasi, submission, dsb)

– Kerja-kerja pengauditan pepasangan elektrik (energy mgment)

– Hadiri conference, seminar, exhibition, training

– Networking dengan para jurutera elektrik

8. Kepentingan IR?

Jawapan:

– More weightage dalam memberi pandangan.

– Ada peluang untuk demand gaji lebih.

– Prasyarat untuk naik pangkat, KPI

– Diperlukan oleh universiti untuk melengkapkan keperluan EAC

(setiap program perlu ada 3 IR di kalangan lecturer, 2 orang IAP)

– Untuk buka engineering consultant (PEPC)

– Submissions ke Authorities atau Jabatan-jabatan (PEPC utk CCC, PE

sebagai Competent Persons)

9. Boleh dapatkan IR yang punyai ijazah kejuruteraan tetapi tidak

bekerja makan gaji kerana berniaga?

Jawapan:

– Boleh, asalkan penuhi syarat-syarat REA/RER.

– Mesti disokong oleh PE/PEPC yang sudi endorse pengalaman.

10. Nak ambil Ts. Dulu, kemudian ambil Ir., boleh?

Jawapan:

– Tiada masalah.

– Ir. – BEM

– Ts. – MBOT

– Pengalaman untuk dapat Ts. Mungkin boleh diguna pakai

untuk apply jadi Ir.
