skyler-the-wizard:
Skyler jumped at the sight of a new face. Suddenly there was a girl around his age standing amongst the trees, staring straight at him. He was more prepared to see a ghost rather than a live human girl. Or at least she looked human? He turned to face her and gave a small breathless laugh.
“Yup that’s me! Skyler the resident wizard, at your service.” He took a short bow with his new wings still fluttering on his back, though at a much slower speed. “Yeah, really really,” he grinned proudly, not quite catching that last thing she said. He was a little startled to see her come up close and blushed a little when he realised she was admiring his wings. It had been a long time since he he had been able to perform some magic, and definitely not at a level like this. He scratched his head in embarrassment and lightly knocked his hand into the crown he was wearing. He had forgotten he was still wearing it. He moved so the girl could see his wings better.
“D’ya like them? I was hoping for something bigger so I could try flying but eh, can’t win them all,” he said with cheeriness in his voice. “I’m just so happy I could do this, my very own wings. You think I could make antennae too? Then I’d really become one with the butterflies.” He laughed his own joke but started to wonder if it was possible.
“Yes, they’re very.. pretty,” she said cautiously, and then watched his face closely. Was that the compliment he was fishing for?
Iris forced a short laugh, and then frowned through a short pause. Become one with the butterflies... Is that some kind of magic person joke?
“So you’re a shape shifter? That’s cool,” She fumbled. She nudged the knife with her shoe and found the action comforting. She rolled the handle back and forth with the sole of her shoe. “I wonder when I will be able to do that sort of thing. Where did you learn?”
The sound of running water trickled through the clearing and with it came a profound sense of calm. Iris crouched beside the knife and poked it as she waited for the wizard’s response, blinking out of sight momentarily with each tap of her finger. She wondered if the wizard knew anything about Maricia... It felt like a word that she had forgotten a long time ago, but it just recently came back into her head.
