I love how Chevalier and Emma challenged Gilbert's mindset in sequel. We know Gilbert struggles with trust, since he has been betrayed many times. And in Chevalier's sequel's dramatic ending, trust is being emphasized. Chevalier trusted Emma that she would make a right decision, a decision befitting a queen and Emma trusted Chevalier's abilities even if she was legit having panic attack inside, she still trusted him and fulfilled his request. We also know that Gilbert developed twisted thinking on humanity, believing they're selfish and their nature is fake love, that even the virtuest person could turn into a beast. He didn't even believe that Chevalier was truly human but then he saw that Chevalier was human exactly because of this love he had for Emma. And in romantic ending, he challenged Emma's pure heart even more, tempting her with revenge and whatnot, only to realize that it's exactly because of her love for Chevalier that she will stay human. Meanwhile, he saw the trust between them and also the trust developed between brothers, where Leon and Yves jumped to save and help Chevalier and Emma without a hesitation even though they knew they could get seriously hurt of injured. The entire sequel legit shut Gilbert up and I love it.
