“If I’m so scary, why don’t go tell my brother? I’m only revealing to you the truth that you don’t want to hear! When someone dies, you scream! Hasn’t anyone ever told you that?”
Katerina held the glass tighter against Allana’s neck, but not tight enough to truly hurt or cut her. It was like a flip of the humanity switch that had been covered in cobwebs for months––years. She was going to be uncontrollable.
“C’mon, banshee! Do it! S C R E A M !” Suddenly, as the words left her lips, she dropped the glass before her hands. The woman dropped her body to the floor and just sat there without a single move.
She stared into the void and whispered, “Allana, did I truly do that?”
Allana dug her nails into the wall that was currently supporting her, clenching her eyes closed as she sobbed, damn near a panic attack. She'd actually begun to hyperventilate when Katerina pressed the broken glass into her neck.
She did not utter a word in fear she might be the cause of her own demise. She refused to look into the eyes of whatever demon was currently possessing the one person she could turn to in times of dire need.
She was silent. Not silent in the way that good girls were meant to be when reprimanded by their parents.
But silent in the way that victims were when they were meant to face their murderer.
The kind of ear splitting silence you get when you refuse to believe in silence, you only believe in a low hum to which only you can hear.
When the sound of the bottle hitting the ground broke through the Irish girls barrier, she blinked open blue, puffy, red, horrified, wide eyes. Instead of engaging with the woman who'd just assaulted her, she stared down at who she'd become with such intensity, you'd think the sun had gotten too close to the Earth and the world was burning.
Then, she ran from the room horrified, and humiliated and absolutely a l o n e
