When they had finally let Inoue leave the hospital, when his physical – and mental - condition was deemed ‘stable’, for the first week he never remained alone. It seemed, and he knew very well that it seemed right, that his friends were afraid to leave him to his own thoughts. Somebody was always there: entertaining him with a talk, counting his pills, holding his hand if they ventured on small walks. Most of the time it was Oriya and Kano, changing, because no matter how dear Inoue could be for each of them, they had their business and studies to attend to.
He didn’t mind it. He wasn’t going to make this foolish mistake of attempting suicide again. He was a fool, of course, to learn from his own mistakes, but he learned nevertheless. He had learned now that living was difficult – the fact that he had already known – but trying to recover and live after an unsuccessful suicide attempt was even more difficult and more painful. He remembered the first couple of days in the hospital with a shiver. He didn’t want to try and experience it once again.
But they didn’t know him as well as Inoue knew himself, so, he noted with understanding, they wanted to make sure.
And it was very lovely that he hadn’t been confined to the four walls of some mental asylum room for any amount of time. As far as he could guess, it was only owing to the conjoint actions of Oriya and Muraki that he could now enjoy the comfort of his appartment. Muraki… whom Inoue hadn’t seen for the length of that week and who was now standing in the door frame.
He wanted to say something. To greet him properly, but he knew how much he owed this man and “I…” Shit. It was too difficult to be sincerely grateful. Iris felt a huge lump in his throat. “Thank you…” were the next words.
Weakness.
“Oops, hold me, Kazu…”
“You don’t need to thank me” maybe he sounded too cold or ever detached. Maybe be had put a bit too stress on the word “me”.
Muraki wasn’t a nice person and he knew for a fact that he wouldn’t become one - no matter how much he could try. He would become the sort of a surgeon who would come out from the operating-room after a surgical misadventure and tell the relatives of a deceased one “I feel for you deeply” without actually feeling anything. Even now the tears of men and women, children meant nothing to him.
Yet there has always been people who mattered. And Iris - beautiful, fragile Iris - happened to be the one who mattered. He was guilty in the eyes of Muraki not for the attempt to commit a suicide - even though, Kazu called himself a catholic and a suicide was a mortal sin to him - but for the attempt to deprive Kazu of Iris. Muraki didn’t want to admit that it was a childish behaviour, he needn’t a self-searching right now. He hurt.
“I’m here” in took him two seconds to cross the room and now Muraki was holding Inoue not tight enough to make him feel uncomfortable. “Let us sit you and I’ll make some tea… I’m not so good at it as Ori but you can appreciate the gesture”
“You don’t need to thank me”
Inoue could have argued upon this statement, for who else he had to thank if not Muraki? Well, Ori, of course. His gentle Oriya, whose warmth, love and tender care made him feel better even in the worst of times and whose ties and connections helped him escape the usual proceedings for the suiciders. He had to thank Kano, for sure, for his clear mind, sensible judgements and a slap or two to Iris’s ego.
But Muraki Kazutaka was a different matter entirely. Inoue sometimes called Muraki unbearable, he could behave like a total moron towards that guy… what was his name? oh… Yu? Or he could be very, very persistent in his sexual advances towards Inoue, luckily, not serious at all. However, notwithstanding all this, out of all the people Inoue was lucky to be friends with, only Muraki was what he could call his guardian. Guardian angel? Perhaps. There were no angels in Shinto, but if there were some, Muraki would probably be seen as one of them.
Beauty was in the eye of the beholder in his case.
Perhaps, Kazu could be mean, or cruel, or rough, but not with Iris. Inoue knew that, loved that and used that. And sincerely appreciated his help any time help was offered.
Thin fingers clasped on the fabric of Muraki’s shirt sleeve. “I’m sorry.” He said quietly managing a smile. “Seems like you are so gorgeous, my legs went sinking. But they would gladly follow you to the kitchen for tea. Only be quiet – someone is sleeping.” Inoue nodded his head in the direction of his bedroom.
❂❂ - Kano
And youscored… 17 O_OAnd I don’teven know…
Inoue hadalmost landed on the soft tempting surface of Kano’s bed when in thevery last moment a spot of yellow… something drew his attention.
“Woah…Kano,” he pointed. “Is that piss on your bed?!”
The spotlooked neither wet, nor dry, but Inoue wasn’t tempted to find outuntil he had found out what it was.
After each and every party which took place in Kano’s appartment on a permanent basis he had to clean up every single inch. Oh, the things he found! Once Kano found a half-mummified piece of pizza behind the wardrobe. The other time it was a pack of weed under his pillow - that was a a pretty good find, be the way. A pack of condoms misteriously appeared on his desk and hid in a pile of documents, copies and books - at that time Kano just was happy that condoms were not used.
And now… what. Piss?!
“Where?!” Kano rushed to the bed and actually leaned to smell the spot Inoue was pointing at. “The fuck! Fucking Hiroshi with his fucking ferret! I tell you what - no one is coming with their pets to my place ever again!”
So that actually was piss. Inoue screwed up his fine features and stepped away from the bed. Then took one more step back. And one more.
He was squeamish as fuck. Well, maybe not in everything, but when it came to the body fluids and liquids, oh God, he was squeamish. “A ferret? Why would you even let him bring his... rodent - is this a rodent? - to your place? Ugh.” He shook his head and seated himself on a chair. Kano had to clean the thing, but Iris wasn’t going to take any part in the cleaning. The best that he could offer as a consolation was food, perhaps...
