riri williams as hermione granger from harry potter
tony stark:
“’Trebuchet’. Can’t you just say ‘catapult’ like a normal person?” from @ironhrtsriri
“I could, but why would I? Being normal is boring.” Tony whirled around in the spinny chair, picking random things off his work desk and fiddling with them. “Plus, I’m bored. Worst part about this Doomgeon? It’s just… boring. Oh, and did you see the faces of Doom everywhere?”
He heaved a dramatic sigh. “So anyway, as I was saying, the castle’s pretty well built, I don’t think a trebuchet or ten would be able to take it down. Not that I’m spending my free time thinking about how to demolish it. Course not.” He stared at the camera watching them.
“So, what brings you here? Please tell me you brought me something interesting.”
“because most normal people wouldn’t know what a trebuchet is.” riri squinted her eyebrows at him as she watched him spin in the chair. the doomgeon was pretty bland. she expected more pizazz out of a doctor doom dungeon. “oh yeah, he was like everywhere. very classy.”
riri glanced at the camera tony was staring into. “oh i’m sure we could find a way. everything’s got a weak point.”
“yes, well, dad wanted me to bring by some dinner he made the other night.” she pulled out the paper plate wrapped in tin foil.
“Well, facts don’t matter then.”
prompt from: @thwipswebs
riri scoffed, turning her head back to the secret project she was working on. “i’m just going to pretend you didn’t say that.” she shook her head before putting her tools down and lifting the magnifying goggles from her eyes, placing them at the brim of her head. “in what world do the facts not matter, peter? just because we are at a serious disadvantage, and yes statistically speaking the odds aren’t stacked in our favor, doesn’t mean we still can’t beat this guy.”
“I should’ve packed my machete.”
prompt from: @itsaphase
“you’re telling me.” riri rolled her eyes. she was tired of this doom guy taking away the things she likes. first it was her suit, and then it was the color red. red. like was this some kind of personal vendetta? “i wish i brought one with me too. something that he couldn’t power down.” she walked down the halls of the technological university. though she doesn’t mind learning, she did feel she dropped out of college for a reason. (she’s learned everything she thinks she could from these places).
“I should’ve packed my machete.”
prompt from: @squirrlgrl
“even if you did, not sure how that would help us. he’s got everyone here powered down.” riri almost grumbled with that statement. she hated that her suit was rendered useless after literally just getting it live again. hours, maybe days worth of work just out the window.
EDDIE:
“No– don’t eat the dinosaur– oh my god, Venom. You don’t even know if it’s edible? What if it’s poisonous? Jesus, why do I even bother?”
Flying dinosaur guts. Cool. Eddie didn’t even really know what kind of dinosaur it was, only that it was Some Kind of Carnivore, judging by the teeth. Naturally, Venom was a bigger, badder predator, and also hungrier.
“Alright, you done?” he asked, as Venom slipped away and relinquished his body–
Our body, Venom interjected, unheard by anyone except him–
“My body!”
Realising that there was someone staring at him, Eddie sighed and held up his hands. “Before you ask, I’m not really talking to myself. I have a parasite.”
riri had noticed the interaction and though a normal person might’ve pretended not to hear or listen, riri was not one of those people. she was curious so she was going to listen. that’s her logic.
“i figured you were talking to someone or thing i couldn’t hear. don’t worry i got one of those too. aka my ai. aka N.A.T.A.L.I.E. when she’s not a full holograph, people can get really confused.”
THOR:
he’d seen it, he’d seen earth. midgard, his new home. but just as soon as he had, he’’d quickly been taken away from it and forced into the darkness of his own nightmare. a demon, he remembered, was there - but then it was not. now, suddenly, thor found himself placed back on asgard - the city was once again not a ghost of its former self, but glistening and sparkling and a splendorous wonder of beauty.
and then, like the night taking over the day, the sky grew dark and the ancient city began to crumble. “no - ” thor whispered, whirling around as screams of his people began to fill his ears, “NO!” - and within that split moment, thor was attacked. ragnarok had come, and he was in the center of it all. internally, he fought off hordes of creatures, using his abilities to the max and swinging stormbreaker around - externally he was a dangerous bomb of electricity and blade as he whirled around at his fellow companions, near misses and singes perilously close to their bodies.
riri flew out with her suit, going out to make sure those who’d volunteered were doing okay. upon arrival to the scene, her answers were immediately presented. thor had sent bolts of electricity to anyone near him, she was nearly hit herself. she was, fortunately, able to swerve and miss the strike. but she had to be careful because if struck, her suit may power down. “mr. thor! i don’t think you can hear me if you can i’d greatly appreciate if you wouldn’t hurt lightning bolts.” riri commented as she hung in the air trying to think of how she could bring him out of this trance.
TONY:
“Radio’s a good idea - probably the best thing in this area, though it can be quite limited in range. Maybe we can see what space-age tech is available on the Benetar. What do you think? We can suit up, pop over there, check it out…”
He rolled his eyes when she mentioned ‘old school’. “Yes, thanks for reminding me how old I am,” he snorted. “I grew up with those - in fact, we still had landlines in Stark Industries for a long time after I became CEO.”
Folding his arms, he glanced at her over the rim of his glasses, waiting for her to elaborate on what had her spooked. “Funny thing… I had nightmares too. Pretty bad ones too, but … yeah, they’re just dreams.”
Grinning at her enthusiasm, he shot her a thumbs up. “Alright, let’s take these suckers out for a test flight, shall we?”
"see? told you i had a great idea." she smiled proud of herself. "i think it's time to suit up." though she could have N.A.T.A.L.I.E keep tabs of the things she'd need, riri tended to do her scavaging on her own.
"i didn't think you needed a reminder." riri joked. she, however, might've forgotten that. "sorry, i didn't mean like old old i meant like...you know retro."
it was a sort of relief to hear she wasn't the only one suffering from the horrendous nightmares. it was even more relieving to hear it wouldn't impact his decision on letting her test fly the suit. "great! see? no big deal. i mean not great that you're having nightmares too...but like great that i'm not the only one getting them."
"i'm already ready!" she states while holding out her arms and letting her suit fly to her and enclose her in the armor piece by piece.
MARY JANE:
“do you have to apologize to uh N.A.T.A.L.I.E.?” the whole ai thing always peaked her interest. she knew very little about them, but she had used F.R.I.D.A.Y. once during the rain storm that happened when they first arrived. “you sure you’re okay? you look upset.” mj’s intention wasn’t to pry. she was only curious, but she didn’t want to push riri to talk if she didn’t want to. “do you two always get in fights?”
it was a nice distraction from the nightmare she’d had. for a moment, she even forgot about it. “can i get you a glass of water to help cool you back down?”
riri looked over at N.A.T.A.L.I.E as had just cleared her throat. mj was right, she needed to talk with her otherwise she’d never live it down. “N.A.T.A.L.I.E, i’m sorry. i really didn’t mean to snap at you.” she looked down at her hands for a moment. “you know talking about that stuff is just...kinda hard.” she sighed. “girl, i know you, remember? it’s all good. you know i got your back no matter what.” N.A.T.A.L.I.E responded. with that riri turned her focus back to mary jane. “yeah, it’s just this stupid jungle. it’s really-” messing with her mind. “no, not always.” “most of the time.” N.A.T.A.L.I.E chimes in, “this girl’s just feisty and don’t wanna listen to nobody when we tell her to slow down.” it just seemed like no matter who riri was talking to, her ai was going to sell her out. “yeah a water would be fine.”
TONY:
Tony grinned. “Yeah? Don’t say cell phones, because we don’t have any cellular network, and it’s going to take way too long to try and build a launcher to send a satellite into orbit - if we even can.”
Damn, it was fun having someone else around that he could banter and talk science crap with. Better still when it was a kid who was more brilliant than he was - not that he was going to admit it out loud - and who loved his suits. Well, her suit, now. And he was really looking forward to seeing the Ironheart in action.
“Desk is clear,” he said, swiping half of his stuff off the table with a clang. “And … ah ha! Called out.” He jabbed a finger at Riri when N.A.T.A.L.I.E piped up. “Thank you, N.A.T.A.L.I.E you’re the best.”
F.R.I.D.A.Y. cleared her throat, and Tony shot an apologetic grin at the ceiling. “You’re the best too, baby girl.”
Turning back to Riri he raised The Parental Eyebrow, that tended to get even Morgan to spill the beans on a bad day. “So, what’s that about, huh? I was going to take you and the suits out test flying today, but we’re not going to do that until I know you’re up to it up here.” He tapped the side of his head. “So, spill.”
"who do you think i am, stark?" as if proposing to recreate cellphone usage in the jungle was such a thing she'd even imagine doing. "i know i'm young but i'm not that young. i was thinking something like walkie talkies and all we'll need are microphone/speaker components and stick it into a device that can channel radio waves. "
she should've expected him to "make room" this way. it's not how she would've done it, but it still works. looking around she grabbed random scraps of material. "sure we won't have enough for every single person, but if we can make four or five to put into each building we can all talk to each other. like those old school home phones my mom used to use."
"thanks, N.A.T.A.L.I.E." riri rolled her eyes. "i know that's sarcasm because you programmed me to detect it but i'm still going to say you're welcome. now are you going to tell him or do i?"
now she was answering to tony's "parent" look. and she really wants to go test flying with the suits. "okay, fine. i had a nightmare, but i always have nightmares so that wasn't the problem. I went out to get some fresh air and i saw xavier and my mom. and then these gunshots came from literally nowhere and..." she trailed off before folding her arms. "and then the next second they were gone. like poof, never there in the first place. but i promise i'm not like going crazy or anything, i'm still okay to test fly!"
WADE:
wade was pretty much used to nightmares by this point. the man barely slept because of them. well, kind of. if he wasn’t sleeping because of nightmares, he wasn’t sleeping because of the goddamn voices in his head. ellie, on the other hand… she was still very young. no scary dreams for her, at least not as often as he had them. with her tucked into bed and sound asleep, he’d decided to wander. he had to pass the time somehow, right? he only wished they still had wifi and video games – at least that would make time easier to kill. rounding the corner, he came face to face with another. wasn’t this the mini iron man chick? eh, something like that. “i mean, you’d be pretty valid to want me to shut up. only i wasn’t talking until… right now. a lot of people want me to shut up, but the thing they forget is that just ‘cause ya tell me to doesn’t mean i’m gonna do it.” he replied, laughing softly at his own jokes, or at least, whatever he’s perceived to be funny. “her, huh? is the invisible woman around, or–,” he glanced around. “or is it a voice in your head? i get those. mine never shut up.”
not that she was trying to be rude but she didn't know this guy and he was already making jokes when she was clearly irritated. on any other day she wouldn't have cared because it's not like she's the poster child for appropriate behavior when it comes to talking to other people. and other people as in not her ai's. "oh, funny." honestly, she didn't mean that to be as sarcastic as it came out but she couldn't help that it did. "no, her as in N.A.T.A.L.I.E. she's an ai that i use for my suit."
"yeah, i'm not a voice in her head but i don't ever shut up either." N.A.T.A.L.I.E picks the time to chime in, making a point that she did not appreciate riri's snapping at her.
VALERIA:
valeria had nothing special going to her , people didn’t even know who she was related to. everything was getting a lot more complicated and not talking about it usually worked , but it was proving to be a lot more difficult than expected. that’s when riri sort of fell onto her lap , they understood one another and she found an unexpected friendship in the engineer. her parents would be proud. she had heard word of nightmares , horrible things that people envisioned even the most stable were being attacked. she could stay up — she had to. she liked to switch between the compound and the building to see the progress made between scientists which unfortunately was not much. she heard a familiar voice and decided to follow it with little to no reluctance. “ asking if you’re okay would be a stupid question , right ? i’m still going to ask it. “ she approached the woman. “ are you okay ? “
riri hadn't expected to make another friend like she did with valeria. it'd taken her years to come across another friend. she didn't think another would come from one of the most stressful situations she'd find herself stuck in. after her nightmare and very upsetting hallucinating, riri planted herself in the lab. she needed to keep her mind busy so she didn't have to think about it.
she wasn't expecting a visit from valeria but at the same time since there wasn't a way to get in contact with anyone that wasn't in the building already. "yeah, no not really but it's fine because i'm working on these!" she points to the broken pieces of electronics.
MARY JANE:
after her mother died, mary jane had nightmares for years. her mother had been one of her best friends, and her loss wasn’t easy. sure, she had a few nightmares every now and then, but it was rare for her to wake up in cold sweats and her heart nearly flying out of her chest. she’d barely slept last night. she stayed curled up beside peter, hoping she’d eventually sleep. it never happened.
mary jane was i trying to get some sleep, but she was wide awake. she sat up as she decided to give up. however, the screaming caused her to jump to her feet. mj followed the sound, and she found riri. mj put her hands up in defense, though, as the girl shouted. it wasn’t directed at her, but it still took mary jane off guard a bit. “it’s fine. are you okay? was that you i heard?”
in her mind, riri's dealt with the trauma she went through as a kid. but if you asked anyone else she knew that would be a complete lie. still she's had the nightmares of seeing her best friend and dad dying so many times, she wondered why this night had such an affect on her. though the hallucinations in the jungle probably weren't much help.
N.A.T.A.L.I.E probably wasn't going to appreciate her raising her voice at her but she'd deal with that later. it always seemed to freak people out when she spoke to her ai. "yeah, i'm fine." a lie. "thanks for asking. i just had a bit of a disagreement with my....suit." yeah that didn't sound crazy at all. "it's got an ai, her name's N.A.T.A.L.I.E"
NATASHA:
natasha doesn’t find solace in sleep anymore. these vivid dreams—-no, nightmares is more accurate. it starts with the sensation of falling. not just the standard feeling of falling that you get when you’re sleeping. this was that horrible familiar falling off of the vormir cliff to her demise. it’s been hours since that moment and she has yet to shake it. she tries to brush it off as just a crazily vivid dream. but that notion flies out the window when she comes face to face with it. and by it—the man whose is a red skull, the keeper of the soul stone. “ what the hell. “ natasha speaks out loud, drawing her gun. natalia romanova, daughter of ivan. she’s ready to pull the trigger but, what would it do? a soul for a soul. you must lose that which you love. she tries not to listen but it’s echoing loudly over and over. she feels like she’s back there again. the gun goes back in her holster as she tries to leave. but, he follows. the same mantra repeating over and over. no matter how much she has to tell herself it’s not real, natasha can’t help but think about it. what if it is true?she doesn’t want to lose anyone anymore. and she certainly doesn’t want to go back to vormir. after fast walking and keeping her hands by her head to drown out the shouting she comes across someone else. “ oh—-hi there… “
since her haunting nightmares and hallucinations, riri took flight in her suit. though they disappeared as quick as they’d come, the bullets still did a bit of damage to her suit. she needed to do some reparations but not around tony. he would ask questions that she would, in turn, have to answer and she’d just rather pretend the whole thing never happened. walking through the compound doors she ran into natasha walking quickly down the hall, she seemed troubled. the helmet to her suit unfolded to reveal her face. “hi- uh... is everything okay?” she asked taking a glance around. the place seemed to be calm and quiet. there didn’t seem to be any threats around.
CINDY:
she didn’t know how much more she could take. she took a nap out by the lake before being hit with enclosed spaces in her dreams once again and cindy woke up immediately. maybe it was a bad idea sleeping near hallucinogenic plants, but the lake was peaceful enough as it is. so now she was running on half an hour of sleep and no caffeine to help combat her sleepiness away. but her alert levels and silk sense were on overdrive and she didn’t know if she could still survive on fumes.
probably not, but she’ll cross the bridge when she gets there.
she’s been trying to keep it together for the past few days when she found out amadeus had been hit with a particularly bad nightmare. god, she didn’t even know how she was going to help her friend when he’s already closed in on himself. and she jumped when someone shouted at her. “uh yeah, sure. are you okay?”
“yeah, i’m fine, just...” riri took an annoyed glance at N.A.T.A.L.I.E. before she refocused on the other girl. “it’s nothing.” she crossed her arms, not wanting to think about the hallucinations she’d gone through earlier that day.
it still stuck with her. she couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d held her family, her friend in her arms as they died. she watched the light leave her mother’s eyes. it felt too real and for them to just disappear afterward? it didn’t make any sense. but if she said any of that out loud she would sound like an absolute lunatic. so she didn’t.
“you look tired.” she pointed out, tilting her head. “do you need help?”
TONY:
Tony was trying to act normal – as normal as he ever acted, anyway. After all, nightmares were an old, old friend. Watching everyone die? Ha. Been there. Done that. Hadn’t even been asleep.
But this one had felt different, disturbingly so, and he couldn’t quite place why. Yeah, maybe it was because it had involved Stephen. And maybe it was because he was stressed. Who knew? His mind was a creature of its own.
Either way, working helped, and he’d thrown himself into lab work, trying out new suit designs. “Hey!” he said, glancing up. “You’re a welcome distraction. Comms units? Sounds like a plan - you have any designs for me, or are you just going to make me do all the hard work?”
He grinned, before taking a bit of a closer look. “You’ve got some eye bags there. Didn’t sleep well?”
riri was entirely used to nightmares. she’s never quite worked through her trauma and therefore it always came back to haunt her when she slept. which is why she tried to spend most of her time working to avoid it. what a nice surprise it was to be unable to fight sleep this time, forcing her to deal with things she hasn’t quite gotten over yet.
N.A.T.A.L.I.E tried to get her to do something about it since last night’s scare seemed far worse than previous nightmares she’s had. it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who knew her that she just ignored it.
aside from her abrupt entrance into tony’s lab, riri was getting much better with her social skills. “i have ideas! i can’t let you have all the fun, right?” she mentioned as she walked over to him, looking around for a clear space to try out her designs.
“ah, last night?” she shook her head, not really liking the direction the conversation is headed. “not really. nothing new.” “she’s lying, tony.” N.A.T.A.L.I.E decided to chime in.
