Relief washed over her as he arrived, she waved away his concerns dismissively.
“I understand.” She nodded, shifting a bit to make room for him next to her although there was tons of room anyway.
“Must be nice being back, I mean… having all these friends. Familiar people around.” Her mind began wandering to what he had mentioned previously about his girlfriend and she felt a little guilty for talking like she knew him.
“Thinking of getting back onto the lacrosse team?” She inquired curiously, it was a little random but he had talent it was clear, and he seemed to enjoy the sport.
The boy smiled and moved to sit beside her, their knees knocking together. “It’s... okay. I mean, I really wish my reason for returning wasn’t so... terrible, but other than that, yeah. I missed my friend--- They’ve changed a bit, they’re not exactly themselves.” He shrugged, looking at her.
“I might, but it depends on what happens.” He chuckled. “So, what about you? How was class?”
“That sounds good, I’ll see you then.” She grinned, feeling a sense of excitement at the thought. She pulled back on her boots before gathering up her things. Before long she had found her way to class, managing to keep under the radar.
Going through her next couple classes, she spent a lot of time pondering the interaction from earlier. How easily she seemed to drop the act, even her guard around Isaac. Seemingly wandering through the halls and into her classes in a bit of a thoughtful haze.
As the bell rang to dismiss them for lunch she hurriedly packed her bag and slung it over her shoulder, walking out to the field and taking a seat on the bleachers, as she fumbled in her bag for a distraction.
Isaac spend the rest of his day staring off into space during his classes and escaping odd looks from his former and now re-assigned classmates.
Just as he was making his way to the field for lunch, he was tackled by his old friends. It took about ten minutes to convince them to let him out of the hug, and that he would come by later.
He hurried to the bleachers, an apologetic smile on his face. “Hey, sorry I’m late. My pack-- I mean, friends, decided to give me a welcome home tackle.”
“Oh wow, that’s impressive.” She replied looking surprised to hear they had done so good. Then again after seeing the way Isaac played she suddenly wasn’t so shocked about his declaration.
“I think the Superbowl is an excuse for everyone to laugh at football players.” She chuckled quietly before checking the clock on her phone.
“I guess we’d better get to class. Thanks for the lesson. Maybe you could try and show me again later.” She suggested, hoping it wasn’t too forward, but she really liked the idea of having someone to hang around with. He made this place more bearable.
He smiled and nodded, leaving the gear on the sidelines of the field. “That’d be great. How about we meet out here for lunch? I think we have the same one...”
“Yeah, I guess that could be it. You are quite tall.” She commented with an amused smile playing on her lips.
“Nothing I can really do about that though… So how often do they have games? Like…. is this really big around here?” She asked curiously, she’d hardly heard of the sport, she wasn’t sure how popular it was. Wondering if this is what their school did, something it was proud of.
“Hey, don’t be hatin’ on my height.” He teased, chuckling. The energy from before had begun to fade away, the wolf inside him calming.
“Here in Beacon Hills, Lacrosse is bigger than football. Superbowl sunday to us is just an excuse to laugh at those dummies throwing a football and get drunk. We have games just about every friday, if I remember correctly. And when I left, we were the best Lacrosse team in southern california, though Stilinski and Greenburg might have changed that by now.”
Embarrassment tinted her features pink as he moved her hands into position, she let her breath out slowly as she tried to focus on the net. Biting her lip she rushed forward and threw the ball, getting it in the net, but there was significantly less power behind her throw.
Turning around, the stick now hanging loosely from her grip, she padded over to him and chuckled quietly.
“I guess I need to practice more…” Speaking softly as she stared at the ground before turning her gaze up to meet his.
He grinned as he watched her, a slight chuckle falling from his lips. “That was pretty good.”
Gently taking the stick from her, he inspecked it. “It might also be the fact that the stick is too long for your height.
Staring blankly at the barely functioning net it took her a moment to register what happened.
“Wow, that was amazing you’re really good…” She spoke in a surprised tone, glancing down at her thin fingers gripping the pole, she bit her lip. She didn’t know much about the sport but it was safe to say this was going to a tough one to get the hang of.
Stepping out of her boots she tried to seem willing to learn but she was extremely nervous of looking like a fool in front of one of the first people to actually talk to her here.
“So how did you hold it again?” She asked with an embarassed chuckle, attempting to emulate the grip he’d held on his lacrosse stick.
“C’mere.” The boy chuckled, stepping behind her and gently guiding her hands to the correct positting, “There.” He said, softly. Leaning down to talk in her ear he said. “Now, go and kill the net.”
She dropped her bag and jacket as she just barely caught the items tossed her way, fumbling a bit and feeling a little embarrassed. Glancing down at her clunky gothic platform boots.
“Might have to go easy on me, it’s hard to run in these things.” She chuckled quietly, tying up her hair before pulling on the helmet, inspecting the lacrosse stick curiously before returning her gaze to Isaac awaiting instruction.
“Am I even holding this right?” She chuckled quietly and adjusted her hands but it all felt so alien she felt like she was doing it completely wrong. It wasn’t as natural as how her guitar felt in her hands, she wasn’t sure she’d ever get the hang of this.
“Just take them off, it’ll probably be easier.” He shrugged, moving over to position himself at the single-shot line. “Watch and learn.”
His wolf instincts kicked in, and it took everything to keep his eyes from glowing. Taking a deep breath, he got a running start before jumping up and shooting the ball into the net, hearing the rope rip, but hanging together by a thread.
He looked over towards her, chuckling. “Nope, not at all.”

“I suppose that is true.” She affirmed as she curiously investigated the locker room feeling like she had been pulled onto some foreign planet. She had alway skipped out on the activities in phys ed, instead taking to walking laps as some menial form of exercise.
“Need me to carry anything?” She offered, figuring it was the least she could do. She was thin but she wasn’t entirely helpless.
He grabbed two lacrosse sticks, a single helmet, and a ball. “Nah, I got it.” He left his books in the locker room, making his way outside and onto the field.
His instincts began to kick in, throwing her the single helmet, along with a stick.
