Rachel raised an eyebrow, ready to take on the challenge.  “What do you want to know? I got a cheating ring going on, a sports coach not following regulations, and a possible JFK and Marilyn Monroe situation.” She could easily leaked the information out herself, but it was more fun for Rachel to tell Issac. It stroked her ego that her skills beat the actual newspaper staff.

Isaac gritted his teeth as he listened to Rachel speak. The smug superiority of having a leg up on the newspaper was written all over her face. Against his will, he couldn’t help but appreciate her interest in the scandalous, it was something they shared after all.  “The paper knows about the lacrosse coach, if that’s the sports coach you mean. I have someone writing that up for the next edition. What do you have on this cheating ring? Any specific names?” Hoping to make her more likely to spill he also offered, “I’ll pay you back in coffee this afternoon.”

“God, if I hear Hamilton one more time…”

She could have finished the statement on a better day. Alas, her head was pounding to the beat of Lafayette’s rap, causing and the pain was adamant enough to keep her from chewing gum. Too many motions only would make it worsen, and Chelsea was in NO mood to feel bad in any way shape or form. It wasn’t ideal, not when she had scripts to memorize and plans to somehow have theatre club focus on a new musical.

Really, she wanted Hamilton to sweep the awards at the Tony’s, but that did not mean she wanted to hear the songs over and over and O V E R —

A heavy sigh, long and e l a b o r a t e, took all the air from her lungs as she finally pushed ( alright, more like slammed) her locker shut.

Isaac snorted, amused by the other girl’s dramatics. Trust the theatre girl to make a sigh like that. Calling anyone else dramatic was probably horribly hypocritical of Isaac but he didn’t pay any mind to that. He waited, silent for once, against the lockers opposite her as she slammed her’s shut before teasing, a smirk playing on his face,

“So Chelsea, darling, tell me, how is this musical of yours going? You haven’t killed anybody yet, have you?”

“I hope she realizes she’s not fooling anyone with that purse,” Rachel commented, rolling her eyes at the girl making her way down the hallway. “I mean if you’re going to get a knockoff purse, then at least make sure to get a top notch one or at least not spend the first five minutes showing it off, ”

“I think I could’ve lived with it if she had bothered to get one that spelled Vuitton correctly,” Isaac sighed in commiseration. He turned fully to Rachel and prompted, “Now, do you have any other information for me? Because unless you tell me she also got a nose job that purse is not newspaper worthy.”

The male looked serene, despite the large, bleeding gash running up his arm and his skateboard split in half. Even with grime staining his white shirt and scuffed up shoes, the solemn teenager remained placid. A soft glare wrinkled his brows, his sleepy eyes did not welcome the sun on his trek back home. He had pushed his boundaries that night, getting farther away from Bellbrook than he ever dared to before. But then came the call from his father— which he left unanswered, but still, he let it do the damage as he pulled himself away from freedom and digressed.  

With parted lips, Logan faced the familiar male; he was quite popular, but Logan recalled him best because they lived a few houses apart. Usually, he would’ve ignored him if they were at school, but he didn’t want to go home just yet and so found himself stepping closer. ‘Skating’ his utterance was silent as he held up either end of the broken deck, however his attention was fixed on the dog.

      Taking in the broken board and slow stream of blood sliding down the other boy’s arm, Isaac nodded. He hadn’t exactly answered the question but that was hardly surprising considering who he was talking to. Isaac had always suspected that Logan was like a frozen lake, the still surface hiding so much beneath it.  It was somewhat surprising that Logan had even acknowledged him; despite how close they lived they’d never said more than a couple of words to each other. They ran in vastly different circles not to mention their vastly different personalities.  

    Noticing Logan’s interest in Tiny, he introduced him with a dramatic sweep of his hand,  “This is Tiny. The name wasn’t supposed to be ironic. He really was tiny when I got him, the runt of the litter. Obviously he grew out of that. You can pet him, if you want.”

    Isaac thought there was probably a 50/50 chance between Logan taking off back to his house without a word or him staying and maybe, maybe saying something. The moment already felt surreal enough with the two of them standing there in the quiet, early dawn light.

       Isaac walked up the street in a sleepy daze, their hand wrapped loosely around Tiny’s leash. The sun wasn’t even out yet and Isaac just wanted to be back in the warmth of their bed. “Come on, Tiny, Tiny, Tiny. Do your business,” Isaac begged in an annoying singsong.       

      They should still be in bed. They and Tiny were out for their morning walk a full hour earlier than usual. Their father had been in a particularly foul mood this morning, stomping around, slamming doors and drawers, yelling at someone on his cell, making it impossible to keep sleeping. While Isaac would’ve been fine hiding out in their bedroom until he left for work, poor Tiny had been frightened. If they hadn’t left, their father would’ve soon started complaining about that “worthless dog’s whining.” So the second there had been a clear shot to the door, they had darted out before their father could say a word to them, ushering Tiny along. With any luck, he’d have left for work by the time Isaac returned.

     Thinking about it now, Isaac pulled their phone out to text Camilla about staying the night at her place. Who knew if their father would still be in the same mood tonight but Isaac would rather not find out. Tucking their phone back into their pants, Isaac looked up, finding someone up ahead of them on the sidewalk. Blinking in surprise, they called out,

                                             “What are you doing out here this early?”
