“Time is always changing,” she agreed. “Though saying that makes me seem like some hundred year old grandpa rather than just a relatively young woman.”

“No it doesn’t because I lowered my standards a bit for a guy and he treated me not that great. But then I realized and let my standards make a return and things worked out with a different guy.”
“That’s you though,” Izzy shrugged. “I’ve been holding myself to standards for a long time and it’s gotten me nowhere. I am really glad things worked out for you though, Dani. You deserve to be happy.”

“Of course not” he smiled at her. “I was being genuine, I really think you’re a nice person, I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it”
She smiled then, content with the answer even if it did seem a little cheesy. “Well that’s very nice of you. Not many people only say things if they mean it now.”

“Well I need to drown my sorrows about losing my faith in humanity so lets find a place,” he said, “you cool with riding on a motorcycle?”
“The one on Lake Street is pretty fantastic,” Izzy replied before nodding. “Yeah, I’m fine with motorcycles. I don’t know why they bother some people.”

“I am glad too, and I’m glad that you have people in your life to help you out too, you’re a really nice person”
She smiled, a chuckle falling from her lips. “Sure you aren’t just saying that in case you’re ever in one of my classes?”
laurenlansing:
“Yeah, that would’ve been the worst,” Lauren agreed as she nodded her head. But when Isabel said she owed her one, she shook her head. “Don’t worry about it. I’m glad I could help. Actually, on second thought, please remember that if I ever take one of your classes someday.”
She chuckled then, smiling. “Alright. What’s your major?” she asked, wondering if that was something she’d have to uphold later.
laurenlansing:
“Really?” Lauren asked, feeling slightly less stupid about her story if even professors did the same thing. “I’ve done that too. Honestly if it’s not in my hands then it’s very likely I’ve somehow lost it or I’m going to. I’m glad I could help you find yours, though!”
“Really,” Isabel reassured her. “i’m glad you could too. Replacing everything on my phone would have been a serious hassle.” Shaking her head slightly, she thought about just how dependent on the device she was. She couldn’t even set an alarm clock without it. “I definitely owe you one.”

“Definitely, they’ve helped me go through so much, they’re honestly the best, my life wouldn’t be the same without them”
“That’s good. I’m glad they’ve been able to help you so much,” she told him. It was true. Izzy knew how important those connections could be.

“You know chinese actually sounds awesome right now. We should get some fresh stuff and guard the leftovers–or just finish it and not have to worry about them.”
“We should. That does sound amazing,” she chuckled. “I’ve learned my lesson. No more leftovers in the community fridge.”

“I’ve always been the wild child to be honest. So bending the rules at all points is my thing.” Daniela laughed. “Did this junior at least have some game, Izzy?”
“A little, but I haven’t reached the point where I’m so desperate anyone with a good pickup line can get me interested.” She sighed. “Sometimes it sucks having standards.”
laurenlansing:
“You’re welcome,” Lauren replied with a smile. She laughed at the woman’s comments. “I know that feelings. I lose my phone way too many times than the average person should. I’ve even done that thing where you’re on the phone with someone and you start looking for your phone because you forget that you’re using it to call someone. It’s the worst.”
“I’ve done that too,” she laughed. “Or more than once I’ve been trying to find my phone and it was just in a different pocket than I usually put it in. I guess it’s really easy to throw us off.”

“I agree, in general it’s nice to have friends, I don’t know what I would do without my friends”
“I know the feeling,” she sighed. “It’s important to have people you can turn to, especially when things are hard.”
laurenlansing:
Her brow furrowed as she tried to remember if she’d seen a phone when she sat down. “I don’t think so…” Lauren said then trailed off, looking around her immediate area. “Maybe it fell? Or someone knocked it over before I got here?” She checked the chair beside her before she noticed a phone on the ground. “Oh! Here it is.” She picked it up and held it out to the professor. “Is this it?”
Once she produced the phone, Izzy beamed. “Oh thank you,” she told her. “You’re an actual lifesaver. I don’t know what would have happened if I couldn’t find it. I’ve have been really stuck.”

“Oh I don’t discriminate,” Matt said, “anyone who doesn’t respect the labeling system is a monster, regardless of their academic or professional standards. I find out the dean did it and she’s dead to me,” he deadpanned.
Izzy smiled, a laugh spilling from her lips. “It might seem a little harsh, but on the other hand someone ate my leftover Chinese food takeout yesterday so I’m right there with you.”
garrettfollmer:
“I was mostly joking” he said honestly with a small smile, it wouldn’t exactly be a bad idea though, some members of the staff could like it. “But I’m glad you guys have fun, you deserve a break too”
She chuckled. “We do. And it’s nice to have friends around here.”
“I’m teaching a bunch of monsters,” Matt sighed, closing the door to the fridge, “labeling food isn’t sacred here, nothing is.” He turned and looked at the other person standing nearby, “I need to go eat my feelings about this, you hungry?” he asked them, “and are you ok riding on a motorcycle?”
Izzy chuckled while she watched him rummage through the fridge. “I am. That’s why I came but if labeling doesn’t work then we’re all doomed Unless we start spelling our food containers,” she laughed. “I’m fine with a motorcycle. What sort of monsters were you teaching that have you so stressed out? The ignorant freshmen kind or the know it all upper classmen type?”
Lauren was staring intently at her phone with her earbuds in, while an open textbook and notebook lay forgotten on the table next to her. She was so focused on what she was watching that she almost didn’t notice the person that had approached her. “Oh shoot, sorry,” she said, taking one of her earbuds out. “Did you say something?”
Izzy hadn’t expected to lose her phone, but then again no one ever did. Thankfully it wasn’t that long after she left that she realized and began retracing her steps. When she found someone sitting at the table she’d been at, she nodded. “Yeah, I was here earlier and think I left my phone. Did you see it?”
