Get Treated for Fatigue at Camarillo Functional Health
Fatigue is one of the common conditions treated in our clinic, Camarillo Functional Health. Our fatigue treatment has helped many in Camarillo, Westlake, Newbury Park, and Thousand Oaks in Southern California.
Fatigue is a nearly constant mental or physical state of weariness that can affect anyone.
The symptoms of fatigue include constant tiredness, brain fog, hair loss, hormone imbalance, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, decreased sex drive/libido, moodiness, irritability, depression, headaches or migraines, body aches and pains, muscle or bone loss, skin discoloration, sleep disturbances, weight gain, sweet and salty food cravings, and loss of appetite.
These symptoms can interfere with an individual’s ability to function properly, making them less productive and even making it difficult to manage their daily activities. Finding the root cause of fatigue is essential to our treatment approach.
Common causes of fatigue include allergies, adrenal fatigue, anemia, autoimmune diseases, depression, anxiety, viral or bacterial infections, fibromyalgia, oxidative stress, Celiac disease, food sensitivities, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, sleep disorders, diabetes, neurologic disease, hypothyroidism, and many other underlying conditions.
Some conventional treatments for fatigue are over-the-counter medications such as antidepressants, blood pressure regulators, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.), and naproxen sodium (Aleve). Prescription drugs include pregabalin (Lyrica), duloxetine (Cymbalta), amitriptyline, or gabapentin (Neurontin).
A holistic approach to addressing fatigue involves reducing stress, eliminating toxins, nutritional support, whole food diet, eliminating food sensitivities and allergens, increasing vitamin B intake, increasing potassium intake, increasing magnesium intake, exercise therapy, sleep regulation, avoiding stimulants, and daily relaxation techniques.
Tests may be used to confirm the root cause of chronic fatigue to help diagnose. For example, testing for adrenal fatigue most commonly includes a 24-hour salivary cortisol panel and blood tests, including a full thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Total Thyroxine TT4, and Cortisol/DHEA ratio), ferritin levels, CRP, and homocysteine.
We also offer gut permeability labs to assess for any gastrointestinal issues that may be contributing to fatigue. A common condition we have treated chronic fatigue patients for is leaky gut. When the gut lining damage causes particles and bacterial endotoxins to pass into the bloodstream, it can lead to a cascade of chronic inflammation that affects the whole body. Our most common test used is the GI Map.
Another lab we implement, if indicated, is a sex hormone lab. To achieve optimal health, women and men need balanced levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Any imbalances of the three can cause symptoms such as weight gain, anxiety, depression, erectile dysfunction, mood problems, low sex drive, infertility, acne, and more.
Lastly, genetic testing allows us to interpret genetic weaknesses such as genetic mutations, which can make you more susceptible to certain nutrient imbalances, drug reactions, and methylation processes.
Implementing a whole food-based diet can allow your body to replenish support through healthy nutrients. Foods you want to include are coconut, olive oil, avocados, cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, etc.), fatty fish (such as wild-caught salmon), free-range chicken and turkey, bone broth, nuts (such as walnuts and almonds), seeds (such as pumpkin, chia, flax, hemp), kelp, seaweed, Celtic or Himalayan sea salt, fermented foods (such as kimchi), and chaga and cordyceps medicinal mushrooms.
