“I think there’s a lot of things we think will happen when we become adults,” Isabelle mused. “I mean I feel like most people kind of expect they’ll hit their twenties and life is suddenly perfect and they have their shit together. I blame the movies.”

“Look, I really don’t have time to coddle and deal with incompetence today,” Grace bit out, staring down the other before her as her eyes flashed a dangerous blue. “Now, if you’re done completely wasting my time, I have a sizable stack of lab notes waiting to be typed up.”

Not having wanted to interrupt, Isabelle had waited just outside the open door until the person Grace had been talking to left. “Sounds like you’re having a good day,” she chuckled as she walked in, though her smile was sympathetic. “Anything I can do to help?”

“I thought so too. I’m good at being sneaky.” Axel can’t exactly say why, but it was just a natural skill that he had. “We’ll tell a few people, just the annoying ones. I think that’ll work just fine.” He says with a laugh before taking a sip of his coffee again.

“Oh, really? Does that mean you sneak around a lot then? Am I going to have to make sure I’m looking over my shoulder?” Isabelle joked, before laughing along with him at his plan. “Perfect. We don’t need those kinds of people here, anyway.”

“Yeah, Theo.” Helena had never been the type to share, emotions always a bit too incomprehensible for her to put into words. Even with her family, she struggled to put most things she felt into words. “We were getting along fine.” It was the truth. Both had been a bit too busy to talk for too long but it had been going fine for the most part. “He’s in the hospital- In a coma.”

“Shit.” The word was spoken softly, and Isabelle’s brow creased in concern. “What happened?” She was curious, but her expression made it clear that she wasn’t going to insist on an answer if her sister didn’t want to give it to her. “Is there anything I can do? I know I’m not a doctor or anything but... I don’t know, I could drive you over to visit or something?”

With a smile, Ela extended her hand. “You’re a lifesaver, I’m Elara Brock. The coffee shop wouldn’t be Silvry’s right? I’ve heard nothing but wonderful comments about there. I just spend the past few years back at NYU, dorming there so I had my fill for dining hall food for a lifetime. But let me take out some my notebook so I can write down the name of these places. One of the few things I miss from New York is the many takeout places they had and the late hours they were open.”

"Silvry’s is good,” Isabelle nodded with a slight chuckle, shaking the hand the other extended towards her. “I’m not surprised you’ve already heard things about it. It’s a pretty popular little place.” Which was obviously good for business, but it did occasionally mean getting a quick cup of coffee to go was nigh impossible. “I’m Isabelle, by the way. I’ve been around here for most of my life, so I know my way around pretty well. What made you move here from New York? If you don’t mind me asking, of course.”

“Okay, look, all I was trying to say is that its too early to start thinking about Halloween costume ideas. There is still an entire month left to figure out what to dress up as and personally, I don’t even know what I want to be.” Gabri said to the other as he sat back in his chair. He would normally work on homework at the library but he was feeling hungry and decided to kill two bird with one stone and eat at the cafe while doing his work.

"Yeah, well, try telling the stores that,” Isabelle laughed, shaking her head. “I swear they’ve had the Halloween stuff in stock for over a month already. It’s ridiculous!” And no doubt the Christmas stuff would be available before Halloween was even over. “I don’t know what I want to be either, but I’d like to try and figure it out sooner before all the good costumes are gone.”

“I really wish I knew why people don’t do it, are they afraid to be different? Who cares! It’s good to be you own person or whatever.” Axel shrugs his shoulders. “I have an idea, we can tell people the coffee here is awful so they don’t come here.”

“Sneaky,” she chuckled, her smile one of wry amusement. “I like it. Just as long as we make sure not to tell too many people. I don’t want this place to close down, after all.” Because where would she grab a coffee on the way to the theatre then, or on the break between shows?

“Listen, I’m not tired. I know what it looks like, but I’m not. I’m just incredibly bored with reading this,” Cass flipped over the page, giving a sigh. She had a giant stack of homework to do, and didn’t think about overloading with classes. “I shouldn’t even be taking some of these. They’re just interesting.” 

“Then take a break,” Isabelle shrugged, glancing up from the book she’d been reading. “Seriously, you’ll work so much better if you step away from things for ten minutes.” It wasn’t easy, especially when there was work to be done and deadlines to be met, but from her experience, it did help.

Elara was walking around Paragon, trying to familiarize herself with the area that she was going to spend the next few months. Being sent there away from her family was tough on her but she at least had Mayhem with her even though all they want to do is cause trouble. Now that was settled, in the first thing she needed was to find the hot spots where everyone liked to be at. It was a good place to get some info about what’s been going on. “Hey I’m new here, you wouldn’t happen to know where’s a good place to get coffee or a good meal?”

Hearing the voice, Isabelle turned, a welcoming smile on her face. She knew what it was like to be somewhere new, and how a friendly face could make things so much easier to get used to. “As a matter of fact, I do,” she nodded. “There’s a great little coffee shop not too far from here, and as for a good meal... Well, if you don’t fancy the food they serve in the dining hall I can definitely name you a few good restaurants and take outs around the place.”

“I—“ Helena paused. She wanted to talk to Isabelle, truly, wanted to finally have someone to talk about the twin brother she lost contact with when she was far too young understand it. Worried. She hated to worry her family, tried to avoid it as much as she could. It meant she bit her tongue more often than not. She settled on, “Don’t worry. Getting in touch with my twin brother. Some… stuff happened.” For a moment, she wanted to jump to reassure that everything was fine, that she was fine. 

“Your twin brother?” Isabelle echoed, a slow smile curving at her lips. “You found him?” But there was more, and even the phrase ‘don’t worry’ only served to increase her concerns. “Has it not been going well? Come on, Helena. You know you can talk to me.” It was the one thing she’d promised when her dad had started adopting; that she’d be a good older sister. That she’d be there for the others as best she could.

“you know what’s really funny? a few days ago, our powers were either a) 50 shades of fucked up b) gone or c) we got new ones and now everyone’s acting like it didn’t happen.” they echoed their thoughts to no one in particular but hoped someone would strike up a conversation. “i’m all for repressing your feelings until they no longer exist but for everyone to do it. and almost school wide? that’s impressive.”

“I guess worrying about it was just stressing people out,” Isabelle shrugged, glancing over at the other. “Sometimes it’s easier to pretend things didn’t happen than to keep thinking about them and trying to process them.” Granted, it was a little strange that there was less chatter about it now that things were back to normal, but then there had certainly been stranger things that had happened.

“I suppose not, but it’s still a shame.” Axel wonders why they don’t just come up with their own opinions. Which wasn’t the time or place for that, but he never lived normal really to understand the public. “I hope they don’t tell their friends or it’s going to end up even more busy in here.”

“Oh, I agree,” she nodded. “We all have our own minds, it would be nice to see people expressing individuality a little more often.” But then, there were times and places for that. “I hope they don’t either. I don’t want to have to find somewhere else to go just to grab a quick coffee.”

“I don’t think there’s a promotion, but it’s strange. Everyone flocking together like sheep. It’s fortunate for you that I had this seat available.” Axel says as he moves his legs to rest under the table now, picking up his own drink as he leans over the table. “Everyone must have just had the same idea all at once.” He laughs, taking a sip of the warm liquid in his cup now.

“Well, people acting like sheep isn’t that strange,” Isabelle chuckled. “But them all somehow choosing this place is. It’s usually really quiet when I come in here.” Still, she supposed the fact that it was busy was good for the business, at least. “I guess they must have. I can’t say I blame them, really. The coffee here is pretty great.”

“What’s wrong wit boosting confidence? It definitely helps any situation t’believe in yourself.” Remy admits with a smile as he shuffles the cards, but also keeping an eye on how she was doing. “It could ‘ave definitely been worse. Ya know what dey say right? Practice makes perfect!” He chuckles as he puts the deck back together, and he does it again-and-again.

“Well, I suppose that’s true,” she nodded with a small laugh. In truth, the only thing she believed in was her inability to perform card tricks, but she was going to give it her best attempt. And if that attempt was vaguely successful? All the better. “Practice definitely makes perfect,” she agreed, putting the deck back together and having another go. “I guess that was a little better?”

sighing, lars rested a hand on his hip as he eyed the young woman carefully. it had been a while since he’d seen her properly, what with hectic schedules and everything, but this was probably an awkward moment for them to reunite, considering the fact that lars was working. “isabelle, come on, you said that to me an hour ago.” he said, folding his arms. “i need to lock up the library at some point tonight.” 

She glanced over at him, hesitating for a moment before nodding. “Alright, alright. Sorry.” Laughing, she grabbed a piece of paper and scribbled down the page number before she closed the book. “I guess I can always come and check this out properly tomorrow.” Grabbing her bag, she stood, heading over to the shelf she had got the book from and slipping it back in place. “So, how’ve you been?” she asked as she walked over. “It feels like I haven’t seen you in ages.”

“Looking on the bright side, I see.” Kate hummed, a smile on her lips. She was no stranger to gossip, mostly from her days in high school. “Fingers crossed. Can’t imagine Barton would be thrilled for falling into pools being something Hawkeyes are known for.”  

“Always,” she chuckled. “You have to, right?” Sitting around and being down about things never helped a situation. No amount of worrying or crying would change what had already happened, and only hard work and determination could change the future. “No, that’s probably true, but hey, as long as he doesn’t go diving into pools too, I’d say the general Hawkeye reputation is safe,”

Alice nodded. “Yeah, you never know! I mean, Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead originally auditioned for the character of Merle, but the producers liked him so much that they created a role just for him! That’s probably not gonna happen with this kind of story, but you get my point.”

“True, but... yeah, I’m not exactly Norman Reedus,” she laughed, shaking her head. “And I think they’re planning to use a script that got written forever ago, so they can’t really write in another role. It’s a cool story, though. And an incredibly compliment, I mean imagine someone writing a role just for you?”
