Hopes, projects and hopefully success..
So it’s that time of year where we start to think about what we want from the next year. I’ve certainly had plenty of thoughts in the last month about where I want things to go. I’ve done two pokemon themed fan art pieces recently. One for Halloween and one for Christmas.
I’ve done speed painting videos for both.
These were both painted in a Daler Rowney mixed media A4 Sketchbook and painted using Winsor & Newton Gouache.
I really enjoyed working on these pieces, so I hope you like them.

To join my last picture of our crested drake, I’ve now painted Gerald, our Cayuga Drake. So you know.. he doesn’t feel left out. I take a lot of photos of him, so no doubt I’ll end up painting him again soon. This was painted with winsor & newton gouache on daler rowney mixed media paper. Prints can be brought on society6

We have 6 ducks and yesterday I decided to paint our crested drake.
We’ve only recently got this pair and haven’t even named them yet, but he’s already been painted. I’ve been organised and already uploaded the speed paint video for this and prints are available at Fine art America. I’ll get round to uploading my Peacock painting on there shortly. Those that follow me on instagram will have seen that painting.
He was painted using winsor and newton gouache, I’m becoming quite a fan on this stuff and was completed on A4 Daler Rowney mixed media paper. I like how this paper handles things pretty well without warping too much. It’s also the paper that I’m using for my inktober pictures and it’s really nice not having to worry about the ink bleeding through into the page below.

Eurasian Eagle-Owl
My latest picture is of a Eurasian Eagle-Owl, birds are one of my favourite things to paint and I’m pretty happy with how this has turned out. The reference photo came from pixabay, the paints used were Liquitex basics acrylic paints and surface painted on was a Fredrix medium textured canvas pad. I’ve been updating my instagram quite a bit, but thought I’d actually do a post on my current paintings. All three of these were done using Sakura Koi watercolours (one of my favourite watercolour sets) on Derwent 140lbs A4 watercolour paper – I like the smoothness of this paper which allows for more detail.
I completed all of these paintings only using one brush, it’s a number 10 SAA all rounder brush that I got for free after buying some other things from SAA So far I am totally in love with this brush for watercolours, it’s big enough for decent washes and yet also works well for detail.
The reference photo for both the Chicken and the Robin came from Pixabay. The cupcakes were sort of freestyled whilst also looking at various cupcake pictures on pixabay… safe to say it made me want cakes after that. 🙂

Heron Acrylic painting
My latest completed painting is this Heron, he was painted on a Fredrix canvas pad with Liquitex basics acrylics. It was painted from a reference photo that I took at London Zoo. There are lots of Herons at London zoo and I saw many in different enclosures, this particular one was taken whilst he was in with the Otters, he was much easier to take a decent shot of than the otters who didn’t want…

No one wants to paint a moth, right?
Well apparently I did.
I usually shy away from acrylics as they tend to never go right for me. However I recently decided to try and make them work after getting some Liquitex basics acrylic paints.
As always, there’s plenty of room for improvement, but I do quite like this picture. Just need to get a frame for it now I think and put it somewhere.
As I took the reference photo myself, I’m giving anyone that wants to try and paint this permission to do so. If you do, please post it to my facebook page as seeing what other people create is half the fun of this kind of community.

I like to doodle frogs sometimes and saw a photo of a little frog statue on pixabay and decided to doodle from that. Of course the end result kind of took on a life of its own, but it’s still kind of cute!
