hi! my name is luke! he/him, '02 born, and i’m autistic and queer (not sure of exact identity but i’m something lol). i'm also british, white, and anglo-indian.
i mostly reblog stuff but also do yap about my own thoughts too. most things will be tagged for me to sort by fandom on here, usually just as (theme)posting, eg. whoniverseposting, nmixxposting, skzposting, minceposting, etc. i currently work front of house in the west end - not gonna say what theatre on public social media, but i do sometimes yap about my job more generally.
i love languages! i studied german and linguistics at uni, and am currently self-studying german and korean. i recently started using the tag luke’s little linguistics library for any posts about language and linguistics. not sure if i’ll continue to use that but it is cute.
i’m currently working on a korean translation of operation mincemeat! as well as minceposting, stuff about this will also be tagged with 민스미트 작전 뮤지컬 (korean for “operation mincemeat musical”)
current interests:

no particular dni, but i’ll probably block you if you’re being prejudiced or being a dick in general!
i am recovered from my slight illness and now ready to go see theatre again. seeing play that goes wrong after work today and death note tomorrow. i am once again spending my time away from my job at the theatre in other theatres. yay :)
don't have any theatre booked tomorrow for the last day of my series of days off because i have plans with friends in the evening, but part of me is considering maybe getting mincemeat day tickets for the matinée... mayhaps....
realising i'm getting slightly ill so. no mincemeat tomorrow 😢 i will instead be lying in bed sleeping. but mincemeat in a couple weeks time maybe? and i'm seeing a tour show at the end of the month!

day 3 of luke's theatre days off - dragged my mum to go see a midsummer night's dream at the globe this afternoon (i'd already seen this production but it was a fun one so i wanted to see it again) and this evening i'm seeing hadestown! never seen hadestown before, only vaguely aware of the plot but it's one i know i'll enjoy, i've heard a lot of good things from friends who are fans :)
also, my cheap sean!charles braces arrived, and i've very badly sewn some buttons to my work uniform trousers so i now basically have a full charles cosplay (still only have my work trousers and not proper 40s ones but those are expensive and i probably won't be able to get them for a while lol)
this has been one of my favourite shows since i first heard about it when i was like 14? i saw it at the young vic in 2018, but that was 8 years ago, so getting to see it again was so fun :)
putting the rest of my rambling under the cut because i have a feeling i'll be saying a lot here.
i also think it's a show that i feel like i have to keep seeing as i grow up - it's about someone looking back at different stages of her life, and i feel like it hits differently as you get older. even seeing it now as a 24 year old compared to seeing it as a 16 year old, or first discovering the show at 14, hit differently. in particular, medium alison is so fun to watch now i'm older than her. as a teenager, yes she still seemed naive and cute, but medium alison was older than me, and so i still saw her as grown up compared to me at the time. watching the show now, it's funny to me how much younger she seems. she's such a baby gay and it's adorable.
it was also fun to see it staged in the round - that was the original broadway staging, but they chose not to for the young vic run, and i do feel like it adds something to have everything happening in this circle in the middle of a room, with actors running past you to enter and exit the stage. it felt way more intimate and personal.
the acting was incredible from everyone, but i feel like i was focused mostly on the parents for a lot of it. obviously alex young as helen is who a lot of people went to see the show for, and even though i never saw her monty live i'm still a fan of her, so of course i was always going to be watching her - especially since helen is a character i've always found interesting. i think i find myself empathising with the wives / mothers in stories like this (trina in falsettos as another example) but alex's helen felt like it added so much more. you could see the way the cheating and anger from bruce had affected her, making her constantly wary of him, worrying about what his relationship is with every young man he interacts with, worring about when he was going to snap next, or his emotions were going to suddenly shift. in the scene before "maps" where bruce is teaching alison how to draw, and then snaps at her, i was watching alex the whole time - her fondness seeing alison talking about her work, to slight irritation when she sees how seriously bruce is taking something that doesn't matter, with a wariness that he might snap if alison tries to talk back to him or point that out in any way, to the anger and fear but also worry for her daughter when he does finally snap. god, she's good. also her days and days made me cry so hard. she's trying so hard to be a good wife and mother and it made me fucking sob.
and BRUCE. nigel harman really blew me away here, he was fantastic. you could see all of these different sides to bruce, his obsessions with art and literature and history, his genuine care for alison, the repressed queerness that just needed an outlet, the underlying anger and frustration at the knowledge that he couldn't be himself, and the way that manifested towards helen as violence and abuse. i'm not describing this very well because i'm bad with words, but he was brilliant. one detail i specifically noted was that he had slightly longer hair, that he kept tucking behind his ear at certain points. i feel like that one detail added this extra bit of femininity, and felt like this expression of the effeminate queer kid he wanted to be able to live as openly but couldn't. and the anger was genuinely scary. the argument between bruce and helen near the end, when she finds the painting he threw down the stairs, and you can see this tide of emotion in him that he's been expressing to alison as manic positivity, but is now coming out as violence and rage, and it's SO FUCKING GOOD. god, i love this show. nigel's edges of the world also made me cry, although i think that was expected, it's one i listen to a lot when i'm emotional lol.
wow this is a lot, sorry if you read all this lol. i'm kind of mad that i waited so long to see this and i won't get a chance to again, because it's so fucking good. i need more productions of fun home in the uk so i can see it again and again pleaseeeee.
it's nearly 2:30am i'm back home from manchester and also my charles cosplay stuff i ordered arrived while i was out yay :) i'll yap more about all that stuff tomorrow. honk shoo mimimi time.
