Bill has been very open about suffering from and his journey in overcoming severe anxiety for his whole life. I respect his honesty and his vulnerability while trying to help others going through similar feelings. I didn’t want to exploit that for a photo but felt like it deserved to be documented. I went to Bill’s dressing room and had a real conversation about how we can accurately and respectfully portray what those moments of anxiety feel like. I told him to take his time to think about it and we would talk again when he was ready. About 10 minutes later, he walked into the studio and explained to me that it feels like he is the only one there and that everything else falls completely out of focus, it’s just him and his mind. He suggested seeing the set in the background so he was somewhat removed before actually entering the set. I was 100% in. I asked him for 10 minutes to re rig with our new concept in mind. After that, I was beyond invested and excited with what we were getting. It wasn’t dramatic or over the top, it was true and I appreciate Bill for letting us go there.
