As always, picking what prompts to include was really hard thanks to you guys' wonderful brains, but we hope this list will excite many of you! Additional info + plain text versions of the prompts can be found under the cut. Please check the FAQ below before sending asks.
FAQ and Rules
What sort of content can I create for this event?
You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content. You're also free to combine these prompts with the prompts of any other event.
Do I need to make 31 things to participate?
Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you. Your works can be separate oneshots or one continuous fic, or something in-between.
How do I interpret these prompts?
Creativity is the name of the game here! If you don't understand a prompt, feel free to send us an ask about it. However, the important thing is you can interpret the prompts however you want. For example, 'heat' could be literal (fever, heatstroke, burn wounds) or figurative (somebody getting heat for something). The dialogue prompts are allowed to be slightly rewritten to fit better for the character whose mouth it's coming out of, be that the whumpee, whumpter, or caretaker. As long as you're having fun!
What are these alts about?
If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice. This will count as having covered that day for completionists.
How do I tag my works and is there an AO3 collection?
It suffices to tag your work with #ailesswhumptober for us to see and reblog it! Please also tag nsfw content, since we'll be using that tag on this blog too. Tagging the day is optional but does help the mods along.
There will be an AO3 collection like every year. It will be linked here once created (closer to October).
What's this I hear about badges/achievements?
For those who want an extra challenge, we come up with a set of achievements each year in addition to the 'completionist' one for you to strive for. Each achievement you complete comes with a cool little badge, hand drawn by our very own Mod Radio, which you can claim at the end of the event. A full list of the achievements will be linked here once created (closer to October).
That should be all. If you have any additional questions, check our pinned or hit us up in the ask box. Or join our discord maybe, whumping can be a great group activity!

There's been a number of people reporting over on the AO3 subreddit that they're getting messages like this posted in the comments shortly after posting new fics.
The AO3 team are NEVER going to try and contact you about TOS violations via the comment section (or about anything else for that matter)
Don't click any links. Report the accounts involved (which might claim to be things like "LucySupport"), delete the message and move on.
We all know that once word gets around the scammers will start looking for new ways to trick you. AO3 is a great spot because it's 1) full of casual users who 2) probably reuse their logins and 3) have a high risk of being embarrassed if it gets out which site they were tricked on, meaning they're less likely to report, which makes the scam go on for longer.
Here's a non-comprehensive overview of some of the red flags in this particular scam, so you can hopefully spot them next time and be a little safer.
Uncommon method of contact.
As already started: AO3 volunteers will never formally contact you through the comments. They already know your email address.
Uncommon reason for contact.
You posted a fic. That's what AO3 literally does, with very few restraints, and absolutely no automation. Other websites (Youtube, TikTok, etc) might ding you because you sneezed and it sounded a little too much like a banned word, but AO3 doesn't do that. If an AO3 volunteer contacts you, they'll tell you exactly what's going on.
Taking you to a secondary location.
This link is clearly hiding something (which, again, AO3 will not do), which is a bright red flag, but even if it looks like AO3, don't click. It's easy to hide a link inside a link, especially when mirror sites like https://archiveofourown.gay is legit.
Threat of action not in evidence.
Any time something says your account is or will be in danger/broken/locked/suspicious/etc and you see zero evidence, did absolutely nothing, that's a sign that something fishy is going on.
Sense of urgency.
I mean this with all my heart: absolutely no website will give you only two hours to take action on anything. If the tone of the thing makes you panic, that's because they want you to panic. Panicky people make bad choices in a hurry.
Okay Faerii, but now that I know what to look out for, I'm safe, right?
Lol no.
We're all human. We all click on things we shouldn't, even if approximately zero-point-one seconds later we regret it.
These types of scams probably don't want your AO3 account. They want things like your Amazon/Walmart/Target account. Basically: anywhere they can get money or goods fast and scram before the shop catches on. Some ways ways to protect yourself in case of an oops is
Use a unique password for absolutely. every. fucking. thing. Learn to love passphrases. Get a password locker. Google and Firefox both offer free ones. We're not hiding the smut from the FBI, so literally anything that will keep you from making ItWasHisSled1234 your password across fifty different sites is good enough.
Update your passwords regularly, especially after anything suspicious happens. Password lockers will also help with this.
Keep a separate fandom email address and use it for AO3. I mean it. This will protect you not just from people who hope your AO3 email & password are the same as your bank account's, but it also provides an extra level of freedom from loved ones. We've all heard tragic stories of people whose loved ones found their AO3 account and used access to their phone to get it deleted.
(In case you need a nudge on #3, yes your school and/or employer can see every email you send or receive, and all it'll take is one overly explicit comment to drag you in for A Conversation.)
Related to 3, I strongly encourage learning how to be anonymous on the internet. Please. Please. Stop using your full name, mentioning your specific home town or identifying landmarks, and if you're under 18 shut up no you're not you're a 23 year old Fine Arts major from Kentuckleburg, Portlegon.
Multifactor authentication is your frenemy. Use it wherever you can and (I cannot stress this enough) do not get in the habit of unquestioningly accepting the login requests. That unexpected text message may save your bank account.
Lie your ass off on your security questions. Favorite color? Bald. Mother's Maiden Name? Chocolate. Street You Grew Up On? Lagrange Point 4. It doesn't matter if you're honest, just that you remember. Some higher tier password lockers will give you space for notes in case you need a reminder.
Get friendly with AO3's support methods. If something is really urgent, really weird, or you just want to be certain before ignoring it, ask. There's no shame in asking questions, and it's better to be sure than to take a risk.
And now ladies, gentlemen, honored guests, and Chat, hopefully you can go forth and be a little safer on the internet.
August 2026 is AU-gust here at the Prompt Foundry!
Alternate Universe takes on our favorite storiesâbe they shows or books we love, or tales of our creationâcan be a delightfully fun way to explore what makes those stories tick, what makes those characters who they are, and what in them is important to why we enjoy them.
On the other side of the coin, some settings and scenerios are popular for AUs because there's something special about that environment or situation that really tickles our brains, and it can be fun to figure out how to fit different characters and their contexts into that world.
So let's run through the multiverse and play with some AUs!
Feel free to combine different daysâ prompts with each other, or combine them with other events, like last year's March of the Blorbos! Draw, paint, sculpt, sing, write fiction, write poetry, write academic analysisâuse your OCs, your favorite characters from media, your own experiences, whatever tickles your fancy.
If you use this list, please tag me here @thepromptfoundry, Iâd love to see what you create!
Respond to as many prompts as you want or as interest you, donât worry about missing or skipping any, or posting your work after the day the prompt is assigned to. Remember, this is supposed to be fun!
If you have any questions or musings, check our FAQ, and if you donât find your answer, shoot me an ask.

They were right, by the way. You have to dig yourself out of the grave over and over again.
.
Life feels heavy.
She still gets up, puts on her uniform, goes out and saves people; mostly from themselves. Follows the same routine, goes out with the others. Smiles. Laughs.
But.
It feels hollow.
In the moment, she copes.
In the moment, she enjoys herself.
But outside of that? Natasha reminds herself to breathe, to take a deep breath and get off the couch, move through the motions of living.
Sheâs well practiced at it.
It leaves her breathless and despondent but only when sheâs alone.
âSomethings wrong,â she whispers to herself before bed.
Survival often feels like forcing herself to take a breath.
.
Unsurprisingly itâs Clint to pull her up on it.
âAre you okay?â he asks in the morning, handing her a coffee.
She nods, non-committal, and tries for a smile.
Fake enough for him to drop it.
She gets on with the day, paperwork, a meeting. Lunch with Maria.
All relatively easy things.
She manages the gym, stretches and listens to the same music.
Goes home, watches the same shows.
The comfort of it lulling her into relaxing.
The day is not a bad one.
The week is good.
Sheâs lived through so much worse.
She doesnât know why she feels so heavy.
Natasha sleeps, as she always does.
No nightmares push past the veil.
She wakes and canât stop thinking. Itâs worse than having a nightmare wake her.
Thoughts go a mile a minute, continual, pressing, on things sheâs done and has yet to do.
Showering helps, and routines. Exercise.
Sheâs fighting a losing battle.
Still Clint asks.
A cock to his head and frown.
âAre you okay?â
She nods.
Smiles.
He doesnât return either.
Hands her a coffee and sighs.
âItâs okay you know, to not be okay. You donât have to say youâre fine when youâre not.â
She snorts.
âAre you okay?â she replies.
âSome days,â he smiles.
Natasha likes that.
âSome days,â she repeats.
He walks with her to the gym, and points to the weights.
They move in ease of tandem.
âOn the days you donât?â he presses.
âOn the days I donâtâŠâ Natasha starts, laying down on the bench and testing the bars weight in her hand.
She considers lying.
Considers the question too.
âOn the days that I donât, I remember to breathe. I force myself to go through the motions of living.â
She pushes the weight off her body and pulls it closer again.
He stands behind her watching to make sure she can mange it.
âWhat else?â
âItâs not enough?â
âMaybe?â
She continues to push it up and down.
âI eat sweet things.â
He smiles.
âYeah. Me too.â
She laughs.
âWho do you think taught me?â
Natasha finishes her set and they swap, reloading the bar with heavier weights.
âSomething fizzy, sometimes.â
âHard moments, doesnât mean I get to write off the day.â
âNo,â Clint agrees. âIt doesnât.â
He grunts in effort.
âItâll pass,â she tells him.
âI think in moments like this, where thereâs no crisis, no world ending crisis to deal with, it feels like Iâm lost. And it spirals.â
Sheâs shocked at her own truths.
âSometimes I worry Iâm going to hurt someone. Hurt myself.â
Itâs her greatest fear.
She doesnât know why sheâs saying it out loud.
âYou wonât.â
Clintâs confidence makes her look down.
âHow do you know?â
He grunts and does one more bench press, before sitting up and looking at her.
âBecause I know you. You wonât because you know yourself better too. You wouldnât be here, you wouldnât have strategies to ground yourself.â
Natasha shrugs.
She doesnât quite believe that.
âI get scared, Clint.â
He voice shakes and she pulls weights off the bar to change it over.
Heâs quiet.
She shakes it off, feeling slightly better at voicing the things that scare her the most.
The movement helps.
Maybe she can add that in too.
Movement.
âWe all do, Nat. Maybe not of the same thing. But the fear is there.â
She shrugs and shakes it off.
âIâm okay Clint. Theyâre just moments and I need to remember that overall.â
She lays down and starts.
They donât talk as they both finish their reps. They break away for cardio and reconnect to stretch and cool down.
âMaybe you should talk Barnett again,â he suggests.
She pauses mid stretch.
âYeah, I will. Iâm in Croatia for the next three weeks but Iâve booked in after that.â
Clint winces as he bends to touch his toes.
âGood.â
Sighing, Natasha stands.
âIâm okay Clint,â she confirms, for both him and herself. âJust not all the time.â
He laughs at that.
âNone of us are, Nat. But if the sinking feeling is weighing us down, then sometimes we need some outside help.â
Spontaneously, she hugs him.
âIâll see you in three weeks.â
He stands back and pulls her in for another hug.
âWeâve been through some pretty bad stuff, but we always land back on our feet,â he whispers.
She squeezes a little tighter, and lets him go.
âIâll see you in three weeks,â she repeats.
.
It helps.
Work helps.
The sweetness of food.
The difference in location.
Breathing in, and out.
Forcing stillness when she canât stop thinking.
Grounding herself to the here and now.
She finds that the way she treats herself matters.
Eating, drinking, sleeping.
It helps.
Barnett stares at her, her glasses on the tip of her nose as Natasha explains like she did to Clint, almost a month ago.
Things feel better now than they did then.
Not the best, but better.
âWhy?â Asks the psychologist.
She shrugs.
âNo, think about it. Why?â
Natasha frowns at the challenge.
âI donât know.â
Barnett shakes her own head in response.
âI think you do, take ownership of it; Natasha.â
Sheâs right.
Natasha does know, but feels itâs the wrong answer.
âI did what I could.â
Barnett doesnât answer.
Waits.
Natasha doesnât like the silence. The expectation that comes from it.
âI used the strategies I have?â
Itâs closer.
Barnett writes something and hands it over.
Natasha nods at the words written.
She folds it carefully.
âNatasha, weâve known each other for a while now. I hope you know that strength isnât only in our muscles. Itâs in our minds too. Sometimes we canât think it way out of things. Sometimes we have to ride through the moment. They donât last. It might feel like they do, and often itâs easier for me to sit and preach that regulation is a series of tasks. Itâs not. Itâs working through the moments, finding what works. Sometimes we are good at it, sometimes not so much.â
Barnett waits, and Natasha meets her eyes.
âKeep going,â she assures.
She proceeds to run through checks, and Natasha answers honestly.
When the session ends she feels lighter, almost impossibly so.
Clint meets her at her apartment and like after every therapy session they head to the local burger place.
âAre you okay?â he asks, tentatively after ordering.
Ty @blueofmariahillseyes for helping with this insanity :)
- Natasha has a serious thing for horror movie villains, and she is not afraid to let everyone know
- Steve is terrified of horror movies. At some point in the movie heâll lose his composure and start sobbing. After he reaches that threshold, he screams at everything
- Bruce is also not a fan of horror movies, but heâs less vocal about it. Heâll curl into a ball and hide his face in Thorâs shoulder
- Thor is constantly losing the plot and asking dumb questions, ruining all tensest scenes
- If thereâs a sex scene, Tony rewinds it to watch it twice
- Clintâs more entertained and repulsed by Natasha thirsting over the villains than by the actual movie
Natasha: Norman Bates is so hotâŠ
Clint: He just murdered a woman in the shower. You want that to happen to you?
Natasha: *giggling* He can look at me in the shower all-
Steve: *INTENSE SHRIEKING*
Thor: Whatâs happening?
Steve: Oh. Nothing⊠I thought thereâd be a jumpscare, but- *INTENSE SHRIEKING RECOMMENCES*
Thor: No seriously, whatâs happening? I have no idea. When are they gonna get to Narnia?
Bruce: Thatâs⊠This isnât Narnia
Thor: Yes I know, when are they getting there?
Tony: Letâs rewind the sex scene
Clint: Dude, why?
Tony: Because I was looking at her left boob the whole time, I need to rewatch it so I can look at her right boob
Natasha: I donât mind rewatching the sex sceneâŠ

Lucky curls up next to the fire, the warmth breathing lightly over his fur.
The lights from the television makes patterns on the ceiling, and as he rolls onto his back, he follows the reflection to plates on the table.
He knows not to touch them, the constant ânoâ and âstopâ when he tried, leaves him sad that he canât touch the leftovers on the plate, even though he knows he would find it delicious.
He wags his tail as he makes eyes at the plate, trying to capture either Clint or Natashaâs attention. Purposefully his tail hits against the table.
He watches Clint as he moves the plate away, giving Natasha a gentle kiss as he gets up and Lucky a ruffle of his fur on his head. Itâs not what he wanted, so he moves with Clint to the kitchen.
âNot this, boof,â Clint says affectionately.
Lucky knows heâs talking to him, his nicknames often varied, sometimes preferring them as he knows it means heâs not in trouble.
He follows to the fridge and sits, Clint picks out a pizza slice, eating half and then dumping the rest in Luckyâs bowl.
The smell of success and the deliciousness of the food brings happiness to his belly and he can feel it into his toes. He taps them as he eats; woofing down the rest.
Licking his lips, Lucky sniffs around the kitchen, not finding anything even in the bin. He walks out and settles back down, nudging himself at Natashaâs feet as she rubs his belly with her toes. He lifts his leg to scratch absentmindedly and yawns.
The dying light of the fire burns and he watches the glow dance across the room.
.
Itâs a strange night.
Itâs feels late to Lucky when the humans finally move together into the room with the bed. The usual routines of the bathroom are forgone and Natasha is first in bed, followed by Clint, and Lucky takes it as a cue to jump with them.
To his surprise, heâs not told no. Heâs pushed to the end, but not out of the room like usual.
He hears Clint talking softly, and the shuffle of bodies moving closer together.
Lucky quickly falls back to sleep, stretching his body and smelling into the air.
It feels safe.
.
Lucky feels movement, as Natasha rises and moves to the bathroom. He follows, wondering if she needs him.
âIâm okay, schastlivyy,â she says, closing the door on him.
He waits outside until she emerges.
It feels like a very long time.
She smells like fear and sadness as she comes out and he licks her hand, following her back to bed. It earns him a hug and belly scratch as they settle back down. He makes it a point to drape himself over her legs, hoping his warmth and heaviness helps to lure her back to sleep.
.
Clint sits upright.
Lucky doesnât move his body and is careful not to wake Natasha again. He can hear the shaking breaths coming from his mouth and Lucky knows just what to do. He licks out, alerting Clint to his presence, before ducking his head under his hands.
His front paws reach out, scratching lightly, trying to get his attention.
It works.
He gets a scratch behind his ears, then his chin, and then a kiss on the head.
âThanks boy,â he says softly.
Clintâs breathing slows.
He settles back on his pillows and Lucky watches as he closes his eyes.
Lucky does the same.
.
They two humans rise early, and he greets them happily. Heâs let outside and back in again, as Clint watches him carefully.
Natasha lets him follow her into the kitchen. He sits and waits as she makes the the drink that smells toxic.
She fills his bowl with food and he happily eats, as more smells permeate the room.
Neither human talks as they dance around each other, their movement easy to follow.
The smells are delicious and Lucky canât stop wagging his tail, even though heâs eaten.
They lapse into quiet conversation as the television turns on. Lucky sits near Clint and waits.
He hopes itâs one of those days where they both stay home. He misses them when they leave and loves it when they stay.
