Running into the clouds
Taken while in the middle of a trail run over the weekend, up and over a ≈2,000 ft mountain at Malibu Creek State Park in California. The Pacific Ocean would be visible just a little further down that path on a clear day. I only had my phone with me, but since I always have it with me and the camera actually isn't half bad, I'm trying to learn to get the best out of it, both at the scene and later in post-processing. Hope you like it!
The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean
Here's something new, it has been a while. I was camping and got so excited when I realized I could see traces of the milky way AND had my camera at the same time! My first real attempt at one of these has been a lot of fun, hope to take more sometime soon. The title of this image is taken from Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

What’s on the other side of the fence?
Cheeseboro Canyon in Agoura Hills, California. This was taken right before a trail run and I didn't have my SLR with me, just my phone. I'd much rather share a technically imperfect photo of a beautiful morning than a sharp and clear image of a less exciting scene. A little bit of Lightroom and Photoshop, and I have one of my favorite recent photos! Several miles of trails are on the other side of the fence. You can run/hike/ride for hours, and it's just a 30-40 minute drive from LA. In summer it gets hot and the plants dry out, but in spring it's great!

Waiting for the dark
I didn't expect to find one of these! It was actually getting pretty dark when I took this. It was too dark for autofocus to work (and nearly too dark to have a good reference point for manual focus), so I feel lucky that I got an image with enough light, reasonably in focus, and without motion blur on the owl's constantly moving head. If I could do it again, I would definitely do some things differently, but I guess you live and you learn.

Making the most of it | Laguna Beach, California
I got to the beach and realized that I forgot the little piece that screws into the camera to mount on my tripod. My first thought was that I should just leave because I won't get good pictures. I thought about it a little more and realized that thought was nonsense :) I would just have to keep my exposures shorter than usual
